'Dr. Seuss Expert'? Politico Turns to Far-Left Former ACORN Adviser to Bash Ted Cruz

Politico's Lucy McCalmont passed off a left wing professor as a "Dr. Seuss expert" in a Wednesday item about Senator Ted Cruz reading "Green Eggs and Ham" to his daughters during his marathon floor speech. McCalmont spent the bulk of her short article quoting from Occidental College's Peter Dreier slamming Cruz. The academician contended that Seuss would be "offended at almost everything that Ted Cruz stands for...he's a bully"

The writer identified Dreier as a "professor of politics", but failed to point out his far-left ideology, which includes serving as a consultant for ACORN and boosting a campaign to nominate former communist Pete Singer for the Nobel Peace Prize.

McCalmont wasted little time in her item, "Expert: Dr. Seuss would be 'offended'", before quoting from the Occidental College faculty member's blast at the Texas politician:

"Not only would he be offended at the misuse of 'Green Eggs and Ham,' but he'd be offended at almost everything that Ted Cruz stands for, which is to remove the safety net from poor people, poor and vulnerable people, he's clearly more power hungry than he is compassionate and he's a bully," Dr. Peter Dreier, a professor of politics at Occidental College.

"Without a doubt, if Dr. Seuss were still around today, he would be poking fun at and criticizing Ted Cruz," Dreier said.

Dreier...said [Seuss] would be "offended" at Cruz using the famous children's book in his argument against Obamacare.

"'Green Eggs and Ham' is about trying new things and giving it a chance and being open to change, right? And here's Ted Cruz trying to stop Obamacare, really before it gets going," Dreier said.

Besides glossing over Dreier's politics, McCalmont didn't mention, as Time's Dan Kedmey did in his Wednesday write-up about Cruz reading Dr. Seuss, that the Republican "announced to a nearly empty Senate chamber that it was his daughters' bedtime and he would like to take the opportunity to read them a children's classic via C-SPAN2. So began Cruz's performance of 'Green Eggs and Ham,' live from the nation's capitol."
