CBS 'The Talk' Ladies Discuss Miley Cyrus as Marketing Genius, Fabulous Artist with Vision

While Noel Sheppard noted Miley Cyrus is suffering in her public image, it can be noted that the ladies on “The Talk” on CBS think the former Disney star’s twerking and sexualized videos are “fabulous.” Sharon Osbourne said parents should “lighten up” and “get a sense of humor.”

The show’s host, Julie Chen, the one-time co-anchor of “The Early Show” on CBS and wife of CBS CEO Les Moonves, asked with a straight face: “Since Miley can't stop putting out racy images of herself, and the public can't stop talking about her, is she really a troubled hot mess? Or? Or really a marketing genius?” Mrs. Osbourne spewed:

SHARON OSBOURNE: Why is everybody huffing about poor little Miley here? Making all these ‘Yeah, she's a hot mess.’ Listen, she stole the show at the [MTV] music awards. Years before you had Madonna and Britney kissing. How many times have we all seen Madonna humping everything from the floor to boom boxes! [Cheers and applause] Touching herself all over! And the thing is, Miley is young, you're meant to do it now, not when you're older. And she's gorgeous! If I had that body, I'd be naked here now.”

That drew more sycophantic applause. She wasn’t done. She had to mock parents who objected:

OSBOURNE: As far as parents saying oh, you know, ‘It's not right, she was’ -- whatever she was, what was it, Montana?

AISHA TYLER, co-host:  Hannah Montana.

OSBOURNE:  Whatever it was she was on, whatever that show was – ridiculous. It's no longer on the air and all those kids have grown up with her. So they're not kids anymore, they're her age, 20! Lighten up! [Cheers and applause] Lighten up! Get a sense of humor!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. My daughter loved "Hannah Montana," and she's now 15. Disney shows featuring teen stars are lapped up by grade school kids. The show only went off the air in 2011.

When co-host Sara Gilbert reluctantly said she preferred an earlier time when performance wasn’t this sexualized, Osbourne replied, “I'm double your age and I think it's fabulous!”

Comedian and co-host Sheryl Underwood took Sharon’s side and underlined her heyday was the Disco Seventies: “Back when I was buying albums, the Ohio Players used to have naked women on their album covers, and we thought it was great...I think miley is a genius, she's the artist, it's her vision. [Applause, and Sharon Osbourne claps along.] I may not agree with it or understand it, but that's her vision.”
