NBC To Air 'Women's Concert for Change' With a Tilt to Liberal Women's 'Justice' and 'Health'

Ads appeared on Sunday night’s season finale of “Smash” for a “Women’s Concert for Change” to air on NBC from London on June 2. Presenters include not just Madonna and Salma Hayek, but also Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Gloria Steinem.

It’s to benefit “Chime for Change,” a new campaign to “raise funds and awareness for female empowerment around the world, distributed to non-profit organizations focused in the key areas of education, health care and justice,” according to the NBC press release. Their advisory board includes liberals like Arianna Huffington and former PBS president Pat Mitchell.

Among their “justice” campaigns is “Increasing the organizing impact of lesbians in Mexico.”
 
Performers include Beyoncé, Ellie Golding, Florence + the Machine, Jay Z, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, and Timbaland. Public service announcements featuring James Franco, Ben Affleck, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts Gwyneth Paltrow and other influential A-list celebrities will also be a part of the special.
