Daily Kos Week in Review: Flying Fists of Fury

April 5th, 2013 11:37 PM

Kossacks aren't merely pleased that same-sex marriage is growing in popularity; some also feel the need to at least malign its opponents and, in one jaw-dropping case, wish severe physical pain on them.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

commonmass: Gay marriage gains every day

...Look, it's really very simple. Marriage has not been sacred in this country at least since Warren G. Harding proved that marriage is not necessary for procreation. I mean, just ask Bristol Palin...

This is what the "other side" has been reduced to: ridiculous arguments that expose their opposition to marriage equality as being firmly based on the "gays are icky" factor and clearly very little else. This is rank, reactionary bigotry, and it was on display for the entire world to see...

LeftHandedMan: Opponents of same-sex marriage need to suffer

...Do you not remember who you motherfuckers are? Well, here's a reminder.

You went from standing in front of mobs chanting "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" to flacking whatever vile shit you thought would freak the most people out...

Entire election cycles were gleefully covered in slick wall-to-wall homophobia and hatred.

Remember that shit? Good. Now go fuck yourselves. Here. Here's a ratty leather glove covered in rusty spikes. No. No. Here's two. You can all go bend over and collectively fist each other in a frenzy until all the pain equals all the hate and the stupid you have given us for ages in spades...

Now you want... what? A break? You want the very thing, the very motherfucking thing, that you never ever gave anyone fighting for their rights against all odds for a single second of your sick crusade of bigotry and hatred?...

You've earned no such thing. Now. Eat all your shit and feel some real fucking shame.

Then, we'll talk about a long and bracing period of naked truth and raw reconciliation...

Michael012: Conservatives are callous and irrational

The conservative movement is one that I have great trouble understanding. To voluntarily put yourself on the wrong side of history, reason, and kindness is unthinkable to me...

...Today's Republicans are not only conservative but are radical in that conservatism: they embrace the paradox of being zealous of keeping society the same...

...[O]ur nation and the globe are moving farther to the left because people are seeing that it is the side not only of empathy but also of reason...

chaunceydevega: The term 'racist right' is becoming redundant

...Contemporary conservatives profess a deep devotion to colorblindness. Despite their claims otherwise, they are almost pathological in their commitment to a version of old-school racism which has been updated to fit the contemporary sensibilities of the post civil rights era...

...[C]onservatism as a movement and philosophy is increasingly and more clearly inseparable from white racism. The contemporary Right despises identity politics--except when it is useful for mobilizing white racial resentment. Consequently, conservatives like Tim Graham do not "see" race unless it can be used to marginalize and delegitimate people of color who occupy positions of authority, influence, or power...

Troubadour: No-cost air travel for all

...[W]hy in the hell do we not have public air transit?  If we are not going to be serious about building high-speed rail, then at the very least we can provide a public air travel service.  Our taxes and debt build airports, funded the aeronautical research that made these aircraft possible, run the FAA, and also track and manage air traffic.  We may not be entitled to sip scotch in 1st class, but we are entitled to freely use (in both the sense of "unhindered" and "without charge") the infrastructure we own.  In other words, there should be public airlines.  It's not as if they would (or even could) be any less comfortable than the coach sections of private airliners, and we would at least no longer be charged at a markup for the "privilege" of being treated like sardines...

...It should be practical to travel from one corner of this country to another without paying a single dime...
