Daily Kos Week in Review: Jeer the Press

March 1st, 2013 11:06 PM

This past week, Kossacks cheered the televised trashing of Sean Hannity and jeered another media personality, Bob Woodward, for questioning President Obama's sequester narrative.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Black Max: The lesson of the Ellison-Hannity clash

...Keith Ellison (D-I Wish I Lived in His District) tore Fox News bitch Sean Hannity wide open...

Ellison's staunch, principled stance, his righteous outrage, and his refusal to back down before conservative bullying and bullshit is -- or needs to be -- the face of the Democratic Party...

...It is exactly wrong to ignore [conservative media], and this is an example of why. Limbaugh went national with his Screaming Meemie Express in August 1988...By 1990 he was in full bloom...In 1994, he played a key role in helping Republicans take control of Congress.

What did the Dems do between 1988 and the mid 2000s? Advised everyone to "ignore" Rush. "Pretend he doesn't exist." "Don't give him any attention." While they relentlessly pretended he wasn't there, he was becoming the "king" of talk radio, and spawned a hellbreed of ever more ignorant and shrill imitators. Their demagoguery and insanity has not just tainted American politics, it has transformed them...

Troubadour:  Woodward's just a right-wing hack

Right around the time a decade ago when Bob Woodward started portraying psychotic puppet-emperor George W. Bush...as some kind of bold, iconoclastic visionary rather than the cartoonishly cruel and vindictive parasite his every word and deed advertised, I began to doubt that Mr. Woodward was indeed the intrepid paragon of journalistic virtue and truth-telling indicated by Robert Redford in All the President's Men.

Now with recent events, I'm forced to wonder if maybe Carl Bernstein had been the brains of that particular operation, and Woodward just some random hack on the paper who had been assigned to work with him...

...Woodward's unfavorable comparison of Obama with (you guessed it) George W. Bush just makes it that much more egregious and disgraceful.  He conjured this [Sperling] nonsense out of thin air while defending a murdering, torturing, psychotic dictator who spent every single day stomping his foot in the face of this country.

Frankly, this chicanery reminds me of someone in particular - three guesses who. That's right - Bob Woodward has gone Full Breitbart...

Steveningen: Go to the dark side, Bob

...Woodward [has] continued to make a complete ass of himself. His laughable attempts to walk back his trumped up lie and try to salvage his bruised ego are just making him look even more ridiculous...

...I think [he's] ready for [his] own show on Fox News.

Greg Dworkin: Republicans are losing market share

...[T]he GOP is addressing their base alone, because they've lost the [spending-cuts] argument with everyone else, who thinks they are insane...

Greg Dworkin: The GOP, defined by sadistic apathy

...What makes you a Republican is not caring what happens to kids and seniors. And no, that's not an exaggeration or hyperbole. Alas.

What's whacky is the end game. The GOP is going to lose on [the sequester] like they lost on the 2012 election, the fiscal cliff, Benghazi hearings, Bush tax cuts for the rich, Hagel nomination, etc...And they are also going to lose on immigration and gun legislation. So what's their brilliant plan? Delay their future losses by inserting some current losses. No wonder America hates them...

eades: Conservatives might as well whistle 'Dixie'

...Increasingly, the Right seems to be finding it harder and harder to live in the same country and the same culture as the rest of us...

The Right already has its own radio and TV networks, its own forms of conservative entertainment, its own collection of approved conservative authors and commentators, and promotes homeschooling as a way of protecting the next generation of conservatives from the influence of mainstream liberal-secular ideas. They have seceded from mainstream American culture and inhabit a quasi-Confederacy of the mind...
