Daily Kos Week in Review: Ripped From the Headlines

February 15th, 2013 11:45 PM

Kossacks had a lot to say about many of this week's major news stories, from Marco Rubio's State of the Union response to the upcoming Vatican vacancy to Republicans' stalling of Chuck Hagel's nomination.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

Jed Lewison: Liveblogging the 'nutjob' Rubio...

7:32 PM PT: "Hi, my name is Marco Rubio, and I'm a fucking nutjob."...

7:36 PM PT: Rubio is now delivering a blistering speech against Straw Man President Obama. While wiping some flop sweat from his brow.

7:36 PM PT: Shorter Rubio: "I AM KING NUTJOB. VOTE ME IN 2016. NOT SANTORUM."...

7:38 PM PT: Maybe I shouldn't say this, but doesn't Rubio give the impression of a guy who likes to pleasure himself whilst looking in the mirror?

Troubadour: ...who resembled a dull-witted adolescent

...[I]t came as no shock when - once again - one of the two giant, ulcerated assholes the GOP chose to give their Party's rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union Address ended up looking like he was auditioning for a middle school talent show and sounded even dumber than the deranged Teahadi script he was cotton-mouthedly trying to parrot...

Troubadour: Handicapping the next Pope

...Some...are hoping for a more conservative leader in Benedict's vein, who will continue the current divinely-inspired program of protecting sexual predators, punishing victims, denying Communion to pro-Choice Catholic politicians, and being A-OK with giving Communion to unrepentant war criminals - you know, keeping the Church's moral authority nice and shiny.  So I've cobbled together this list of the top 5 candidates to replace Benedict, covering the whole spectrum of opinion.

5.  Bono.

...[H]is vocal opposition to child rape would be controversial among the College of Cardinals, so he is considered a long-shot...

4.  Rick Santorum.

...His political positions would definitely place him strong in the running, as he is only opposed to priests having sex with adult men, and opposes abortion in all cases except when performed with a cruise missile or in an NRA-sponsored rampage killing...

weatherdude: Obama-hatred makes GOPers climax

...The Republicans are so fervently anti-Obama that they're willing to let our country go without a Secretary of Defense...

Secretary Panetta is staying in his post until the Senate confirms his successor.

The fact remains that the GOP would have willingly left our country without a leader at the Pentagon just to satisfy their orgasmic hatred of the President.

The last 13 years of rabid nationalism is a classic case of, forgive the paraphrase, "the party doth protest too much, methinks."

The Republican Party hates America. It's about time they admitted it.

MichelleSmith: American racism never ends

...The Russians tried the Nazis Judge Dredd style lining them up against a wall and shooting them in the head.  The Israelis sent out a hit squad for whoever was left. However, the United States made the decision to try these Nazis in a court of law. They did this because the Nazis were white men.  Meanwhile Black men got the lynch mob back at home.  Today, Black men instead get a kangaroo court or in [Christopher] Dorner's case the lynch mob...

Kos: The right is becoming apathetic

...As far as I can tell, conservatives are tuning out as they realize that 1) America hates their guts, 2) America doesn't hate gay people anymore, 3) brown people are taking over the joint, 4) brown people hate conservatives even more than other Americans, and 5) it's more fun for them to hate on Karl Rove...
