James Taylor on Guns: 'We Need to Make Some Sacrifice[s] To Our Freedoms'

Liberal Obama-backing musician James Taylor has no clue about what the president's latest executive orders on gun control entail, but insists that we need to “sacrifice” some our freedoms to keep America's children safe.  Taylor made these remarks in an impromptu interview with The Daily Caller’s Nicholas Ballasy shortly after the inaugural ceremonies yesterday:

I think the nation is very divided on gun control,” Taylor told TheDC, “but I think the majority of us feel strongly — even the majority of gun owners feel strongly — that we need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms, if that’s the way to put it. We need to make some sacrifices to what we might want to have, in order to safeguard our children.

I think there’s a limit to how much — I think the founding fathers wanted us to be able to arm ourselves, but I don’t think that they would have agreed that we should have the capacity to do the damage that we do have. And we just can’t afford it.”

Taylor might want to stick to music instead of political punditry. Nationwide, violent crime has dropped five consecutive years in a row, so Taylor’s comments seem to be a gross extrapolation, and possible exploitation, of the recent gun tragedies we’ve seen over the past six weeks.

What's more, when questioned about Obama’s foreign policy, which is many ways continues policies instituted by President George W. Bush, Taylor argued that we need to just "trust" Obama like he does:

I just think we need more like him — not that there’s anyone else like him — but I think it’s great that we have him in government. We are very fortunate to have Barack Obama as our leader.

Talk about selective memory.
