DNC Touts 25 LGBT 'Accomplishments,' But Nothing for 'Faith Community'

Even before President Obama's proclamation in favor of "gay marriage" on Wednesday, the Democratic Party clearly demonstrated an urgency in defending itself to its gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgender base. On the DNC website, if you click on "People" and then on "LGBT Community," you can find a 25-point list under "LGBT Equality: Accomplishments of the Obama Administration."

But then click on "Faith Community," and there is no list of accomplishments. Zero. Zip. Their list of "Recent Action" for the "Faith Community" has one item from November 2011 and then the next most "recent" one from...December 2009.

It's not like they're taking the base for granted. The African-Americans page features a 28-point list of accomplishments (in PDF). The page for Women has a 28-point list. The Hispanics page has a 33-point list, too. (There is no page for "Men" or "Whites.")

Apparently, Obama and the Democrats have nothing to tout on matters important to the "Faith Community."

Last October, the DNC announced Rev. Derrick Harkins would be their director of Faith Outreach. He apparently wasn't pleasing enough to their "LGBT Community."

Perhaps Obama's next move will be to give the Rev. Harkins the axe. Sarah Posner at Salon.com is still unhappy:

Somehow, though, Obama will have to square this newfound position with his allegiance to anti-equality religious figures. The director of the Democratic National Committee’s faith outreach, the Rev. Derrick Harkins, for example, is opposed to same-sex marriage. While he’s not “a bomb-thrower in terms of saying things that will get a rise out of a crowd,” he told me last year, he is still opposed to same-sex marriage, calling it a “vexing” theological issue. Now the president is for it, but the director of the party’s faith outreach is not.
