Ready to Join the Faith Dream Team?

February 21st, 2012 11:45 AM

I stated a few weeks ago that I believe that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Sen. Rick Santorum have shown the greatest passion for highlighting and fighting against the war on religion (specifically Christianity) being unleashed by the Obama administration and other secular progressives. They are also avid supporters of Israel.

However, in light of the potential global clash outside our country with regimes such as those in Iran and Syria and the ongoing domestic assaults within our country from President Barack Obama and his minions, my wife, Gena, and I believe that America needs the best of the best veterans of political war to save our republic (as our Founding Fathers established it) and lead us forward.

As I've stated for the record, Gena and I truly believe that Newt's experience, leadership, knowledge, wisdom, faith and even humility to learn from his failures (personal and public) can return America to its glory days. And he is the best man on the battlefield to outwit, outplay and outlast Obama and his billion-dollar campaign machine.

You might have seen or read in the news this past week about how Newt deployed his Christian "Faith Leaders Dream Team." I'm honored to be a part of that passionate faith group of national leaders, which also includes Don Wildmon (founder and chairman emeritus of the American Family Association and American Family Radio), Tim LaHaye (prolific author of the blockbuster "Left Behind" series of books), Tim's wife, Beverly (an evangelical pillar), George Barna (founder of the Barna Group, the nation's leading marketing research firm focused on the intersection of faith and culture), J.C. Watts (U.S. congressman from Oklahoma from 1995 to 2003 and now the chairman of Watts Partners, a leader in the corporate and government affairs industry), Mat Staver (founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, an international nonprofit litigation, education and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life and the family) and Jim Garlow (senior pastor of megachurch Skyline Wesleyan Church and chairman of Renewing American Leadership).

Of course, there are millions of other great Americans and notable Christian leaders who are backing Newt, including David Lane (founder of the American Renewal Project), Rick Green (constitutional expert and co-host of the "WallBuilders Live" radio broadcasts with historian David Barton), Steve Riggle (senior pastor of Grace Community Church, a megachurch in Houston), Richard Lee (founding pastor of First Redeemer Church, located in metropolitan Atlanta's Forsyth County), Michael Youssef (founding rector of The Church of The Apostles in Atlanta, whose messages are broadcast 3,800 times a week into 200 countries through Leading The Way), Vivian Berryhill (president and founder of the National Coalition of Pastors' Spouses), Joe Fuiten (senior pastor of Cedar Park Assembly of God in Washington and former president of the Washington Evangelicals for Responsible Government), Tony Calatayud (national director of Salem Espanol and chairman of Conservadores and also helped Sen. Marco Rubio get elected), Dutch Sheets (former Colorado pastor and now international speaker and author on prayer), Rick Tyler (founding director of Renewing American Leadership, author and political strategist and activist) and Bob McEwen (U.S. congressman from Ohio from 1981 to 1993 and now an international speaker and senior adviser with the nationally recognized law firm Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald).

One particular thing that really impressed Gena and me about Newt and Callista Gingrich's genuine Christian faith was their united fight for Christianity before Newt ever ran for president. They collectively wrote two volumes and hosted a DVD series — "Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the Role of Faith in Our Nation's History and Future" and "Rediscovering God in America II: Our Heritage" — in which they tour the nation's capital and discuss our history in a forthright case for America's Judeo-Christian heritage. On the DVD fighting with Newt and Callista are best-selling author Walter Isaacson, former Attorney General Edwin Meese III, authors and historians H.W. Brands and Douglas Brinkley, former Ambassador Michael Novak and WallBuilders President David Barton. (The books and DVDs still are sold at the very estate of George Washington, Mount Vernon.)

We, patriots and the collective team of Reagan Christian conservatives, join Newt in pledging our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to restore our republic. For the sake of our posterity and the preservation of truth in each of our own communities, we all need to accept this challenge by Ronald Reagan: "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done."

If you want to join the millions of others of us in Newt's corner, here are seven ways you can do so and to employ your faith to action:

1) Post a link to this column on your Facebook and Twitter accounts, and email it to those you know, particularly those in Arizona, Michigan and Washington (the next states to have primaries, on Feb. 28 and March 3).

2) Sign up to be part of Newt's Faith Coalition, at http://www.newt.org/faith.

3) Educate yourself on the Republican presidential candidates by reviewing the American Family Association's online voter guide, at http://bit.ly/yzW57w.

4) Listen to Jim Garlow's interview with Newt, at http://bit.ly/xnAuNH, about Newt's Christian faith and passions.

5) Please keep Newt and his team in your daily prayers.

6) Go to http://www.newt.org and help finance Newt's campaign.

7) Mostly, don't be missing in action at the polls! Your vote counts!

In next week's column — "For Whom Would America's Founders Vote for President?" — I'm going to build a case for Newt.
