Daily Kos Week in Review: Jive Talkin'

December 18th, 2011 10:51 PM

To the typical lefty, white conservatives are racists, whereas black conservatives are better described as racism-enablers -- Uncle Toms who, in effect, assert their own inferiority in order to please their supposed betters. This past week, one Kossack made that argument in slightly more colorful terms.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym. DKWIR will return on New Year's Day. Merry Christmas!

chaunceydevega: White conservatives sell racism...

...[T]here are likely many conservatives, who in another decade would fancy themselves owners of human property, kings of the plantation, where the darkies knew their place, and everything was a Neo-Confederate, Southern GOP, Tea Party wet dream...

History stares you in the eyes: Rush Limbaugh and his brethren slap you in the face every time they channel the glorious and proud history of black and brown folks, our sheroes and heroes, for their nefarious and dishonest ends. And you do nothing.

And some wonder, why in America, conservatism and racism are one in the same.

chaunceydevega: ...and black conservatives buy it

...[B]lack conservative apologists...instinctively rise to defend any assault on either people of color, or the black poor, by the white conservative establishment. Black conservatives are on retainer and are obligated to shuck, buck dance, and jive to earn their keep...

BobboSphere: The color of racism is green

...[R]acism has undergone its own Darwinian evolution. Old fashioned in-your-face racial epithets are no longer socially acceptable. A black celebrity like Oprah can become a billionaire with millions of devoted fans. The Republicans even flirted with a black presidential candidate until he flamed out.??

But in the area of economics, institutional racism still rules the American dollar...

American racism has been an intimate partner of American capitalism since the beginning of this nation. Did anyone seriously think they could be pulled asunder by a few civil rights laws? Institutional racism is alive and well and being carefully guarded by conservatives. It is truly...racism’s last stand...

ginmar: Newt is the quintessential Republican

...Gingrich's treatment of his wives mirrors the Republican Party's treatment of women, poor people, people of color, and immigrant people in general. The GOP treats such non-people in a way that indicates they view them as both useless and disposable, with no long term value.

This way of viewing people is not limited to Republicans, though I would say it indicates a certain conservative frame of mind. A liberal is far more likely to see humanity in all human beings rather than only in those who make a certain amount per year...

Kaili Joy Gray: GOPers have a 'fetus fixation'

...[T]oday Mike Scorsese Huckabee will be premiering The Gift of Life, his every-sperm-is-sacred flick...Huckabee, wannabe kingmaker that he is, has invited the Republican candidates to join him on the red carpet, where he'll be serving up 16th century health care along with popcorn, so they can really impress upon Iowa voters just how deep their fetus fixation is...

...[T]he Republican candidates will be able to really shore up their "pro-life" street cred by sitting through this filth and then, no doubt, issuing statements about how all life is sacred and special and must be protected.

And then they can go back to cheering for executions, booing gay soldiers, and demanding that poor children get off their lazy fat asses and go clean some toilets to develop a work ethic.
