Jon Stewart Rips Ed Schultz for Deceptive Edit and Racism Charge Against Rick Perry

As NewsBusters previously reported, Ed Schultz on his MSNBC program Monday deceptively edited a Rick Perry speech to falsely accuse the Texas governor of making a racist comment about President Obama.

On Wednesday, Comedy Central's Jon Stewart took Schultz to task for this glaring mistake (video follows with partial transcript and commentary):

JON STEWART, HOST: Pretty sure that Perry was saying the black cloud was the debt. In fact, if you keep the sound bite going...

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TEXAS GOVERNOR RICK PERRY: That big black cloud that hangs over America, that debt.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

STEWART: See? That! And while the next day, Ed Schultz did apologize for not playing the whole clip, he never really address his insinuation about what Perry meant with the phrase "black cloud" over America. But I guess that's the thing about clouds: some people see a racist dog whistle, some people George Washington wrestling a leprechaun.

From there, Stewart brought on Wyatt Cenac and John Oliver to further illustrate Schultz's pathetic leap to cast Perry as a racist.

Now, as Stewart pointed out, Schultz on Tuesday did admit his mistake, but fell far short of either acknowledging his totally bogus racism charge or apologizing to Perry for it.

Furthermore, there's been no comment whatsoever from MSNBC about this.

I guess it's perfectly acceptable at this joke of a so-called "news network" to incorrectly besmirch a sitting governor and presidential candidate as long as he's a Republican.

But we already knew that.
