MSNBC Temporarily Shelved 'Psycho Talk' in January - Not You, Ed Schultz

June 20th, 2011 9:10 PM

Even better, the source of this information is you, Ed. You of the pronounced selective memory.

On his radio show Friday, Schultz claimed he voluntarily discontinued the all-too-aptly named "Psycho Talk" segment of his MSNBC television show in January after the Tucson massacre. The segment returned to "The Ed Show" in recent weeks with little fanfare.

Here's Schultz describing his alleged decision to put the nightly two-minute hate on ice last winter (audio here) --

Now, we had a congressional member shot in the head and six people were killed earlier this year in Tucson. And we had a big discussion  in this country about rhetoric, about hate talk, inciting violence. In fact, I gave "Psycho Talk" a rest. You know, I mean, you know, we all have to understand the climate, the moment, and understand the severity of what's out there.

Ever get the impression that someone has lied by what he says right after the deceitful words -- you know, I mean, you know?

What Schultz claimed about this Friday was not quite what Schultz told his radio listeners on Jan. 27, when he said that people "a helluva lot smarter than I am" made the call on "Psycho Talk" (audio) --

Dan from Milton, Wisc., wants to know if I abandoned "Psycho Talk"  now that your show has been moved to 10 o'clock, I miss it. Dan, so do I. But you see, I come to work every day and if you have the Ed Cam on, you'll see that I come to work every day because I have it on right now, I have a tag around my neck. This tag, this card, allows me to get into the building and work. I work for somebody. I don't call all the shots. But the, the decision has been made that "Psycho Talk" was better at six o'clock and not at 10 o'clock. Now look, there's probably people in positions that are a helluva lot smarter than I am and have decided that that's what the way it's going to be. So, that's what's happening.

"The Ed Show" was moved to 10 p.m. after Keith Olbermann's abrupt departure from MSNBC. Schultz broke the news about "Psycho Talk" being placed under sedation two weeks after he vowed the segment would remain on "The Ed Show."
