Daily Kos Lauds Obama Christmas Video

On Christmas morning, the Daily Kos website typically celebrated the official Obama Christmas message as so much better than those bitter "wingnuts" on the right. Susan Gardner boasted:

Clearly, our president is not doing his fair share in the fabled War on Christmas. If only he'd muttered a begrudging "Happy Holidays," the celebration of bitter wingnuts would have decked the proverbial halls with boughs of conspiracy holly.

Not only that, Barack and Michelle Obama discuss love, peace and redemption. Then they salute the military and their families, and urge Americans to volunteer to serve one another and find volunteer opportunities at serve.gov.

Why, it's almost as if the two of them believe there actually may be more to the holiday season than ginning up the culture wars and buying obscene amounts of useless crap.

But an actual look at the transcripts suggest "bitter" conservatives might want to look twice at Obama's message. Christmas is merely about the birth of a "child"? There's no mention of a son of God, merely the socialist line about being our brother's keeper (through mandatory taxpayer contributions):

Because this is the season when we celebrate the simplest yet most profound gift of all: the birth of a child who devoted his life to a message of peace, love, and redemption. A message that says no matter who we are, we are called to love one another - we are our brother's keeper, we are our sister's keeper. Our separate stories in this big and busy world are really one.

Elsewhere on the same blog, Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas was fulminating about illegal immigrants facing deportation to Mexico. He wrote "Republicans and [Democrat Sen.] Jon Tester took a bat to this young American (yes, American)." Failing to pass the DREAM Act providing amnesty for teenaged illegal immigrants is "taking a bat" to them. After a few paragraphs of a leftish Phoenix New Times article touting a young mother who has nightmares of deportation, Moulitsas concluded: "Scrooge was a Republican. Until he got a heart."
