Barbara Walters Tells Joy Behar 'You're So Offensive People Will Give Money to Folks You Don't Like'

October 28th, 2010 10:09 AM

Barbara Walters on Wednesday told Joy Behar she's so offensive to so many people they will give money to folks she doesn't like.

This marvelously was "The View" co-host's response to Nevada Republican senatorial candidate Sharron Angle raising $150,000 online after Behar called her a bitch on Tuesday's program (video follows with transcript and commentary):

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: Hey! So I'm sitting here, I happen to look over, there's some beautiful flowers over there, Joy. I'm told there for you. Who is sending you flowers?

BEHAR: Yeah, they are. Aren't they gorgeous? They must have cost, what do you figure, $500?

GOLDBERG: Well, I wouldn't go that far. But a couple a hundred.

BEHAR: So, I go to my dressing room and I see these flowers. You know, yesterday I had a bit of a, how should we put it, contretemps on the air with Ms. Sharron Angle.

BARBARA WALTER: You'd better say what you said.

BEHAR: You say it, Barbara.

WALTERS: What you said yesterday?

BEHAR: Go ahead. I want to hear you say it.

WALTERS: Well, I don't remember your words exactly.

(CROSSTALK)

SHERRI SHEPHERD: She said bring it to the Bronx.

WALTERS: She asked me to tell her. Okay, I remember you called her a bitch.

SHEPHERD: She said bring it to the Bronx.

WALTERS: She called Sharron Angle, who is running against Harry Reid in Nevada --

BEHAR: She's also running racist ads in Nevada which we saw.

WALTERS: Okay, so Joy presented her point of view, which is what we do on this program. She called her a bitch and she said you'd better come to the South Bronx and see what happens.

SHEPHERD: She said bring it to the Bronx, bitch.

(CROSSTALK)

WALTERS: You also told her to go to hell.

BEHAR: I said she's going to go to hell. It's a little different.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: It's pretty definitive.

WALTERS: So, she then sent you flowers with...

BEHAR: Yeah, so I will continue the story now. So this morning I get these flowers from Sharron Angle. I mean, I look in my, it's a brassiere moment, and it says, “Joy, raised $150,000 online yesterday. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Sharron Angle.”

WALTERS: She has a sense of humor.

BEHAR: Well, I don't know if it's a sense of humor, but I’d like to point out that those flowers were picked by illegal immigrants and they're not voting for you, bitch.

Gotta stop the tape here. First off, it's pretty racist to assume flowers were picked by illegal immigrants. But maybe more importantly, as Hot Air's Allahpundit pointed out, illegal immigrants can't vote - at least not legally.

Why isn't it at all surprising an ignoramus like Behar wouldn't know this? Take it away Barbara:

WALTERS: So, I would like to say

SHEPHERD: Another $150,000 in the coffers.

BEHAR: Harry Reid I'm sure got some money for it yesterday also. So, we'll find out which side is winning on this one.

WALTERS: What it also says is that you are so offensive to many people that they will raise money to whomever you disapprove of.

BEHAR: Okay, that's fine.

WALTERS: You criticize them, they raise money.

BEHAR: I love that I have so much power. So I have a lot of power. I don't want to help the Republican side, but I think that, what did she say? I'm offensive? You know what's offensive? Watching those ads and watching people who work for a living made to look like villains. That's what's offensive, not what I said. Ok? Let's get that straight, America.

HASSELBECK: And another $150,000 is being donated currently as we speak.

BEHAR: I don’t care.

HASSELBECK: I don't agree with her ads.

BEHAR: You know, what, I worked in the Bronx. I know from being bullied by someone in a position of power, and I do not like it. And I will fight her. I'm a street fighter. And so are you, girlfriend. Give me a five.

WALTERS: I will just want to say, on the other side --

BEHAR: Okay, you be, you’re yourself, girlfriend, I’m different.

HASSELBECK: You're so feisty this week.

WALTERS: Let me say something. Don't attack me. I'll send you flowers.

BEHAR: I’m having a party Friday. Send me more. Go ahead.

HASSELBECK: Barbara has velcroed our seats, so no one is leaving this table. We are all stuck here on our seats just so everyone knows.

WALTERS: All I want to say is, you can criticize as you do. It's your right and we all know the positions that you take. And it’s called “The View” and fine. But I don't think you should tell anybody to go to hell.

BEHAR: She didn't say go to hell. She said you're going to hell. And that’s definitive where you’re going.

HASSELBECK: Who else is going to hell? I want to know.

BEHAR: Well, you know, it came on the heels of talking about heaven and God and all of that. It was a religious conversation that I came after, so that's why I went to hell. I don't believe in hell. And I don't believe she's going there. I think that some of the people that she's destroying are possibly in hell right now, but that's another story. You know, she could have taken that $500 and maybe had some sensitivity training with it or maybe donated to an AIDS victim's house or something or maybe school lunches for poor children. Don't send me flowers, Sharron, okay. Put your money where your mouth is.

Amazing. Juan Williams got fired last week for saying that in the wake of 9/11, he's a little uncomfortable seeing folks in Muslim attire at airports.

Meanwhile, paid ABC employees on The View can actually celebrate one of their own calling a female senatorial candidate a bitch.

It's an interesting world we live in, isn't it?
