George Lopez Cracks: ‘Every Latino’ Will Leave US if Palin Elected, ‘We’ll Go and Take Canadians with Us’

Catching up on an item from the Thursday, May 20, The View on ABC, comedian George Lopez appeared as a guest and made a few anti-Sarah Palin cracks as he joked with the group about the new immigration law in Arizona, asserting that if Palin were to become President, he and other Latinos would flee the country: "This is the answer to immigration, I'm going to tell you right now. This is how to get every Latino to go back to where they came from: Elect her President in 2012. ... We will leave voluntarily. We'll leave. We'll go voluntarily and take Canadians with us."

He soon joked about Palin fitting the "profile" of a Latina: "Sarah Palin needs to be careful because she fits the profile of a Latina. ... Her and her daughter have a kid the same age. ... She works and her husband don't. ... She talks a lot of smack and he don't say one word. That's very Latino. But he's a stay-at-home dad. Where I come from, if you're a stay-at-home dad, your ass is unemployed."

Lopez also poked fun a bit at President Obama by referring to the birther conspiracy theory, asserting that "if the President doesn’t have to prove where he was born, why should we?" prompting Behar to lightly admonish him while she laughed: "He did prove it. Don’t even say that. He did prove it."

Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Thursday, May 20, The View on ABC:

JOY BEHAR: What do you think about when we were talking before about snitching on illegals in Arizona?

GEORGE LOPEZ: About immigration?

BEHAR: Yeah.

LOPEZ: I've discovered that some of my workers are not, and then I just ask them when a car goes by to duck down. But this is the way I look at it: If the President doesn't have to prove where he was born, why should we?

(AUDIENCE LAUGHTER)

BEHAR, LAUGHING: He did prove it. Don't even say that.

LOPEZ: Right?

BEHAR: He did prove it.

LOPEZ: Listen, we're going green. We don't want to ruin any trees. We don’t want to show papers, it ruins trees. But I will say this, that with immigration, it's interesting because there's a lot of people that fit the profile, like Sarah Palin. This is the answer to immigration, I'm going to tell you right now. This is how to get every Latino to go back to where they came from: Elect her President in 2012.

BEHAR: Yeah, a lot of people will go back.

LOPEZ: We will leave voluntarily. We’ll leave.

(AUDIENCE APPLAUSE)

LOPEZ: We'll go voluntarily and take Canadians with us.

...

SHERRI SHEPHERD: Going back to Sarah Palin, I just want to ask you, going back to Sarah Palin, you were talking about her. Do you think that it's a good idea that she's standing with Jan Brewer on this whole Arizona thing?

LOPEZ: Sarah Palin needs to be careful because she fits the profile of a Latina.

SHEPHERD: Oh, really?

BEHAR: Oh, really? Tell us.

SHEPHERD: What is the profile?

LOPEZ: Her and her daughter have a kid the same age.

(AUDIENCE LAUGHTER)

SHEPHERD: This is true. Es la verdad.

LOPEZ: Wait a minute. She works and her husband don't.

(AUDIENCE LAUGHTER)

SHEPHERD: Ohhh! Ohhh! What else, George?

LOPEZ: She talks a lot of smack and he don't say one word. That's very Latino. But he's a stay-at-home dad. Where I come from, if you're a stay-at-home dad, your ass is unemployed. You're not a stay-at-home dad. I had stay-in-bed uncles. They used to run the house from the bed. They’d be under cover: "Somebody's knocking! Somebody get the door!"

BEHAR: So maybe she should be a little easier on them.

LOPEZ: "My plum fell under the bed." Listen, if you want to boycott Arizona, I mean, what are we going to do, go find a turquoise bolo tie somewhere else? A scorpion belt buckle? I mean, we can find those in New Mexico. But it's a hot, you know, a cachina doll. It's such a hot issue, obviously.

BEHAR: Yes.

LOPEZ: And to prove that I'm an American, I'm going to drive through Arizona as fast as I can.

(AUDIENCE APPLAUSE)
