Fox News Almost Alone in Covering Behar Comments

January 11th, 2008 5:47 PM

After Joy Behar’s inflammatory comments, claiming saints would be no more than mental patients in modern society, Fox News was the one of the very few major news outlets that picked it up. Other than Joe Scarborough on MSNBC, Fox News was the only news outlet that covered the Joy Behar craziness. In cyberspace, Fox News was the only major news website to report it.

Could it be that her comments were simply not newsworthy enough? Under the mainstream media’s standards with Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly, they should be. On the January 11 edition of "Fox and Friends First" Steve Doocy noted Fox News’ sole voice.

"Extraordinarily, I was googling this last night. Fox News is pretty much the only outfit that is even talking about this. It’s so extraordinary."

The transcript of the brief exchange is below.

STEVE DOOCY: Yesterday, we told you, we played you a clip of Joy Behar, the day before on "The View," where she said that saints, the Catholic Church’s saints all heard those voices. Of course the saints thought they were hearing from God. But Joy Behar said that they were hearing voices because they were crazy people and there were no drugs to turn off the voices, like Thorazine and stuff like that. Extraordinarly, I was googling this last night. Fox News is pretty much the only outfit that is even talking about this. It’s so extraordinary.

BRIAN KILMEADE: They must be upset about it because I think "The View" loves to be talked about. They love being in the eye of the storm. They like saying these things because there is no ramifications for doing this. They don’t lose voices because of it.

PAIGE HOPKINS: And those crazy voices sure were the catalysts for a lot of good work for a lot of these saints, if indeed they were crazy voices which I don’t believe they were.
