Vile, Vicious, and Anti-Catholic: Comedian's YouTube Video Sets New Standard For Bigotry

[*OBSCENE LANGUAGE CONTENT WARNING*] It doesn't get uglier than this. Using the crudest of language and the filthiest of depictions, a video skit posted on YouTube by veteran comedian Louis CK presents the Catholic Church as existing "solely for the purpose of boy rape." Louis CK is a veteran performer and writer who has been featured on network television. Last year, he had a sitcom, "Lucky Louis," which ran on HBO.

The skit begins with an "introduction" by Louis CK saying that he wants to learn about the Catholic Church. The next scene places him in an office across the desk of a priest who is a "spokesperson for the Archdiocese" of New York.

LOUIS CK: Uh, so, what is the Catholic Church? What are you guys all about about?

PRIEST: OK. The Catholic Church is an ancient, worldwide organization dedicated to the constant goal of f^&*ing young boys.

LOUIS CK: Really?

PRIEST: Sure.

LOUIS CK: Wow.

PRIEST: I thought everybody knew that.

LOUIS CK: I -I thought the purpose of the Church was to worship God, and the boy f^&*ing was just incidental.

PRIEST: No. It's just the other way around. The point of the church is the boy f^&*ing. All the other stuff is just busy work.

That's just the beginning. From then on, it just gets worse - much worse.

Again, the language and content is simply savage and obscene. Click at your own risk. Unlike other YouTube videos, there is no warning that the video "may contain content that is inappropriate" or that you must verify that you're 18 to view it. Don't say I didn't warn you. Here is the video at YouTube.

It's revolting that this guy thinks there's something comical to be found in the rape of boys. Any abuse of a child, whether by a priest, family member, teacher, whoever, is simply vile. The harm is real and pervasive. That this atrocity is being used as some sort of comedy device is simply sick.

And it goes without saying that the video is immensely offensive to the millions of Catholics who place the faith at the center of their lives.

The portrayal of Catholic priests in the video is simply disgusting. The vast majority of priests are good men who would never even think of harming a child. Many priests strive to live their lives like saints. They comfort the sick, visit the lonely, minister to addicts, assist the poor, soothe people's sorrows, and so on.

There are also countless Catholic organizations around the world helping the poor and assisting the needy. Catholic Relief Services, the Missionaries of Charity, Catholic Charities, CMMB, CNEWA, the list goes on. Louis CK's video is an appalling attack on people who live out their Catholic faith in their work for organizations like these.

It's been said that anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice. Would YouTube ever allow a similar false, grotesque, and despicable depiction of Judaism, Islam, or Buddhism to remain on their site? I'm asking.
