On my custom Google homepage, it looks like the "NewsBusters.org - Exposing Liberal Media Bias" feed ( http://newsbusters.org/ ) is dead (no updates since last night, ie "MSM Mum while blogosphere boils") whereas the "NewsBusters.org blog" feed ( http://newsbusters.org/blog ) is still running. Those two feeds are somewhat redundant, but I liked the content on the main site a bit more than the "blog" feed so that's the one I had displayed. Intentional or not, looks like that first one is dead at the moment. :-/
No problems like that with Firefox 2.0. But with so many people having widescreen or even monitors larger than 13", perhaps there's just too much whitespace on NB.com? Need scalable margins that adjust to larger screen sizes. At full screen, NB takes up just 1/2 of my screen. Arg!
As I mentioned on the OT, the stray comment problem I was having earlier seems to have worked itself out.
As far as FF (my prefferred browser for NB) goes, the site seems to work just fine.
However, I have had problems in IE-7 regenerating the current page and moving to other pages. On six occasions I have clicked on the "blogs" button and three times was sent the the Drubal loading page, and the other three times that same operation blew me off the site completely. Also, I can copy and paste from anywhere except the rich text editor.

It has happened to me several times, but only in IE-7. Haven't had it happen in FF as yet.

When I type in the comment box, the font is really tiny...I mean REALLY tiny....I'm guessing 6 point....there is no option for that, only bold and Italic. Can anything be done to remedy that? When it posts, the font is fine.
Maybe it's because you're still trying to incrementally get everything up and running and operational, but the Forums page tells me I cannot post a new Forum Topic. I don't need to post one now, but I do post them from time to time. Just want to make sure I have the option when I need it.
And like others have said, the layout is too narrow. I miss the optional layout that was in the old setup...it would be nice to have that option again.

On the "Recent posts" feature, which btw is very excellent, can you have the default tab to "my recent posts" instead of "all recent posts". You may find people clicking less this way and thus free up some server processing. I really like this feature as it saves me lots of time scrolling pages to see who posted on a thread that I am interested.

Apparently the core layer is not getting through everytime.
Care to elaborate for the not so tech savvy among us? I saw this from the computer at home in, I beleive it is Ie xp or something and mozilla firefox. Will check when I get home and see if it is cleared up, if not, any ideas. The one at work works fine.

I think it is what some of our more left-leaning comrades here at NB do when they are not here regurgitating 2004 presidential one-liners. In between therapy sessions, of course.
I haven't tested the site changes yet on my home systems - XP desktop and Vista laptop with Firefox 1.5 and 2, and IE 6 and 7 respectively. I'll let you know if I find any bugs as soon as possible.
1) How can I change the font alignment? I'm stuck in center & there doesn't appear to be any other available option. (although it looks like it may only be aligned center when I'm writing, not when I actually post the comment)
2) The threads are way too busy in my opinion. I think you should eliminate the borders around postings (not sure what purpose they serve but to distract my eyes) & I think you should restrict the photos to the person's profile. I don't need to see a picture of somebody's grill piece every time they post. It muddles the thread and makes it difficult to focus on the actual content. Call me old fashioned, but I thought the old format was just fine. The system just needed some fine tuning, not a design overhaul.
My guess would be that maybe that is a picture from a nice vacation or where you would like to retire. Either way, I did say insights, not resemblances. Nice pic though.

First, don't move, you'll scare it and it will fly up and get tangled in your hair, (assuming that you have some) and that will freak you out.
Second, slooooowly reach for that old copy of US News that you haven't thrown out yet, and roll it up tightly.
Third, all of a sudden give it a good WHACK!! as it runs across your computer screen. Then run outside while screaming and try to shake it loose from your hair because you missed it.
Thats what my ex used to do. :)
LOL

Like some others, everything is off my screen to the right; every time I open the site, click on an article, etc., I have to slooooowly scroll back. I'll do this for awhile but then I'll tire of it and just leave. Why the heck are those huge ads there anyway...does anybody really look at them? (I know, I know...they are why the site is free.) Also, I'm with the posters below who say the new screen is too "busy;" my eyes aren't drawn to one point, but wander around. I like the old format better...AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE I'M OLD AND CRANKY AND SET IN MY WAYS. I'm actually a very nice man...when I'm on my meds and can find my spectacles.
Still getting used to the new format, but I appreciate the improvements, e.g. avatars.
Some of my thoughts:
1) More HTML or bbcode options, such as offered in phpbb or vbulletin, would be greatly appreciated, but that would probably require a major revamp, so...
2) Ability to add comments through the original blog page (without having to link out, then back in) would be nice. For example, when you click the "reply" button, it could dynamically create the Comment box on the page, and you could edit and submit your reply right there.
3) Not sure if the default subject line is needed.
4) I guess formatting all depends on how you want to organize the information. I find it a bit hard to find the name of the user who posted each comment (the username font is much smaller than the subject font). Avatars help with this.
4a) I don't necessarily like the way comments start to the right of the avatar (sometimes), and wrap to the left margin on the next line. It's a bit disconcerting, particularly when people often like to start their posts with a very short first line, sometimes just the name of the person they're responding to.
5) The boxes/frames around every other comment can make it appear that non-boxed comments are responses to boxed comments, when actually they are at the same level.
6) As I'm concluding this comment, I'm already starting to get used to the way the names are placed in each comment... I suppose what once seemed "messy" is now beginning to be pre-processed by my brain, so now things don't seem quite so bad.
7) Smaller, cleaner font would be appreciated in the comments. Not sure if this is definable in our user settings?
Edit:
8) It would be nice to have boxes/frames around all of the comments. Otherwise, the unboxed comments look unorganized.
Author's Note: All opinions are subjective, and not to be taken as statements of debatable fact.
Still having that pesky center justify problem in the comment editing box.
And the back button does not return you to the place where you were, but to the top of the last page.

Same center-justify issue here. Mac OSX 10.4.10 and Firefox 2.0.0.3 -- how does one get back to the old left-justify? Is there some trick I don't see?

Something is going on with PMs, they don't show up in the Sent box, it's as though the message never existed. I suspect they are going into email limbo as I have sent out two since the upgrade, neither have been responded to or show up in the sent box.

July 18, 2007 - 01:53 ET by Carl Kolchakbigtimer, that BettyBoop avatar is totally you! How is the family doing? Are you going to be handing out "Vote for Hillary" flyers this month?

Bug problem...
July 17, 2007 - 18:57 ET by Clear thinkerMathew...
I have this long flat bug with legs and wings, how do I kill it?
Just messin!

Bugz
July 18, 2007 - 02:13 ET by BritcomFirst, don't move, you'll scare it and it will fly up and get tangled in your hair, (assuming that you have some) and that will freak you out.

Like some others,
July 17, 2007 - 20:35 ET by m4ster chiefLike some others, everything is off my screen to the right; every time I open the site, click on an article, etc., I have to slooooowly scroll back.
Changes
July 17, 2007 - 21:27 ET by steve2526The changes look good-- but why does clicking on the back button take me to the top of the home page?
It's a pain to have to scroll back down to the last story that I had gone to.
I'll second that one...but
July 17, 2007 - 22:58 ET by smfd227I'll second that one...but the rest is working fine for me...and the new design is kickin'!

Same problem here...
July 17, 2007 - 21:33 ET by JRNot the "old and cranky" part - unless 41 is old, and I guess I am a little cranky tonight, but anyway...
After the initial load, everything was off the right side of the screen I refreshed the screen and the page displayed correctly.
Thanks, JR... that works
July 18, 2007 - 05:33 ET by BricklayerStill getting used to the new format, but I appreciate the improvements, e.g.

Still having that pesky
July 18, 2007 - 01:59 ET by BritcomStill having that pesky center justify problem in the comment editing box.
And the back button does not return you to the place where you were, but to the top of the last page.

Same center-justify issue
July 18, 2007 - 05:25 ET by sarcasmoSame center-justify issue here. Mac OSX 10.4.10 and Firefox 2.0.0.3 -- how does one get back to the old left-justify? Is there some trick I don't see?

Something is going on with
July 18, 2007 - 08:24 ET by dscottSomething is going on with PMs, they don't show up in the Sent box, it's as though the message never existed. I suspect they are going into email limbo as I have sent out two since the upgrade, neither have been responded to or show up in the sent box.
