Even Discussing a Cartoon, Janeane Garofalo Can’t Resist Bashing Bill O’Reilly

Have you ever wondered what makes liberals so full of…hate?

After all, it seems that regardless of the venue or the setting, someone on the far left side of the dial is going to say something bad about Republicans, George W. Bush, Fox News, or all of the above.

Such was certainly the case when former Air America host Janeane Garofalo sat down to discuss her new animated feature “Ratatouille” with the Boston Herald (h/t Brian Maloney).

In the end, it didn’t take long for Garofalo to lob her first surface-to-conservative missile (emphasis added throughout):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

“I saw no need to make fun of French people. It’s embarrassing,” said Garofalo during an interview in Boston last week.

The politically outspoken actress said she objected to a line of dialogue that made it into the film in which Colette equates her anger at the new chef to being French.

The former Air America radio host said she is against any kind of France-bashing.

Fox News is embarrassing for everybody. As if the French are bummed that Bill O’Reilly doesn’t like them,” she said.

Incredible. Yet, maybe even more offensive was her misandrist tone, and its subsequent delicious hypocrisy:

Garofalo, a petite powerhouse with a tattoo of Rosie the Riveter prominently displayed on her left bicep, said she learned kitchen politics firsthand from her friend, a female sous chef.

“The culinary world is male-dominated,” she said. “It’s Gordon Ramsay-style aggression. Many women end their education (because of it). It’s not that they can’t do it - they don’t want to. The chauvinism is just ingrained.”

When she was growing up, the “Reality Bites” star said, the cooking responsibilities were left to her father.

My dad was the cook, and he has a real talent and passion for it. My mom, sister and I, not so much,” Garofalo said.

Well, Janeane, if that’s the case, maybe you should have paid more attention to your dad than your friend the sous chef. After all, this might have given you a more rational view of politics both in and out of the kitchen, as well as a more civilized approach to gender relations.

But I digress.

What pathetic tripe ...I expect nothing less from the left...and they wonder why their shows of any venue fail and they scream the Fairness Doctrine when they go belly up.

Who could stand to listen to such BS?

What is funny to me is the little immature leftists do not realize the more they criticize Fox and BOR the more viewers they bring to their so-called enemy.

What simple little fools.

The same could be said of the posts in reaction to your story.

And the Fox News quip is funny to me, recalling that stupid BOR French boycott. The other stuff I don't find that big a deal either. I know! Everyone's shocked! I will say that over the past few years Garofalo is much less interesting since she lost her sense of humor. She used to be funnier.

Garofalo has some serious issues with life in general.  The "anti-attractive" "anti-feminine" Bohemian thang she's built her persona and career on was old, very very old, a long time ago.  Which is why she now has to resort to voicing over animated films.  I recall seeing her in a stand-up HBO special about ten or so years ago.  Her hair was greasy, and it looked as if she had shopped the dumpster of a thrift store for her pants and shirt ... which needed washed and ironed as well.

Actually, interestingly enough, all of those people you listed, with the exception of Tom Hanks, are pretty much has-beens. John Goodman and Kelsey Grammer had their runs, but it's over for them. Allison Janney? Basically a supporting actress and I think Degeneres has a daytime talk show, but then again who doesn't?

Goodman and Grammer are still

Goodman and Grammer are still relevant. They didn't do the movies for the work. Grammer is in a new series this fall, as a matter of fact. Degeneres' talk show is a rave, and she won a bunch of day time Emmys.

Allison Janney is a supporting actress, but she just came off a HUGE series, so she can do what she wants for a while.

Bal,

That's her thing. What can ya' do. I don't have any problem with criticizing her, but "she now has to resort to voicing over animated films." is, IMO, a silly comment and amounts to piling on.

Bal,  It is a lot more than

Bal,

It is a lot more than a "silly" comment.  She made herself moonbat in chief, at airhead america, and she angered a lot of people, so silly or not, she is responsible for making flippant political comments regarding her movie.  "Resorting" to voice overs?????  That is a very lucrative field, as you have brought up before, I.E: Tom Hanks...etc.  So she isn't just below a janitor.  She is doing quite well.

Oh I know that Garofalo has n

Oh I know that Garofalo has not exactly endeared herself to the right with her politics and Air America stint. That's when I lost interest in her, frankly. Like I said, she was a lot funnier when she was, you know, doing comedy.

And I'll openly admit that some of her stand-up act was too political for me. But some stuff had me busting.

Bal,

I agree, I was a big fan of her's in her early days, I thought she was smart and funny.  Then she went to the dark side.  Too bad for her.

The point people seem to be m

The point people seem to be making is that Garofalo used a powder puff segment about a KID'S CARTOON as an opportunity to take potshots at a political commentator, a television channel/program, international relations between nations and kitchen politics/sexism.  Who really cares if you, your sister and your mother were too lazy or disinterested to help in the kitchen?  Are you also implying your father is an aggressive chauvanist?  Nice.  That's all a bit toxic considering the reason for the interview.

For pete's sake, it's a children's cartoon movie not a political thriller.  Take your ADHD meds Janeane and stay on task.

Yes, not much.  Could have b

Yes, not much.  Could have been worse.

Yet it was inappropriate given she was hoofing for a children's movie at the time.

Not everything needs to be politicized nor politics woven into every conversation.

There is a time and a place for most everything under the sun.  Newsbusters is one of those places to discuss political views, amoungst other topics.  A press junket for a children's cartoon doesn't sound like the place for any and all things political.

An infamous story about Groucho Marx on You Bet Your Life alleges he once had a women on that had something like 12 kids.  He asked why so many and the lady said that she loved children and loved her husband very much.  Groucho replied that he loved cigars but he took them out of his mouth every once in a while!

Moral of the story is Janeane should give it a break once in a while - there's a time and place for everything.

West Wing=pompous Left Wing crap!

Very heavy-handed at times, but still a good show, and Janney's work on it was superb.

Allow me to clarify my meanin

Allow me to clarify my meaning of Garofalo and her new field of voice-over in animation.  The woman has so trashed her physical appearance image (and I admit to not having seen the above interview, so can't vouce for what she looks like these days, but having seen her not too long ago she was still looking very dumpster chic) that I'd suspect producers looking to cast female roles in flicks don't have Garofalo popping into their heads right off the bat.  The woman has NOT done anything of sellable value in the entertainment industry in YEARS.  Even her stint on Air America was lack-luster, to say the most.

As for the list of actors bal mentioned, Hanks is one of Hollywood's biggest players these days not only as an actor, but behind the scenes (although I believe bal was trying to group Garofalo in with them on a positive note ... unsuccessfully).

And then there are today's animated films.  Computer technology has not only improved them, but shot them pretty much to the VERY top of box office money makers.  However, now that Hollywood has baited us into the theater to see them (even adults enjoying them ... I adored Chicken Little) I am finding some very disturbing trends being subliminally, or not so subliminally, fused into these visually excellent movies:

1) while I understand the movie makers needed to inject some lines and tone for adults who had to accompany their kids to these movies to enjoy, I find they are increasing these lines and meanings with every movie.  They are either trying to influence the kids watching them, or have lost sight of who their target audience is, and their age demo. NOT COOL! Adults have South Park for that.

2) political issues are also being slipped into these animated movies.  Happy Feet was all about GW.  Even Ice Age: The Meltdown attempted GW, but failed in my opinion because IT wasn't due to man, but nature (DUH!).  Cameron Diaz was heard to remark when asked upon the release of SHREK The Third that if there is to be a SHREK 4 she wants to see it involve GW, with Shrek's swamp in trouble because of it.

It's bad enough you can't go to a regular movie for purely entertainment and escapist enjoyment these days without being preached to about how bad GW and America is, but now we have to not only put up with it in kids movies, but have our kids indoctrinated while innocently viewing it.  NOT acceptable.  These same movie makers would NOT accept animated kid's movies promoting Christianity or conservative ideology without kicking and screaming and bashing.

While I agree kids movies should NOT be mindless junk, I do believe they should NOT be tools for Hollywood to influence a generation.  Don't let us forget, this is the same industry that insists their product does not influence murder and suicide (a la rock/rap music, movies, etc.), yet remarks they hope "Dead Man Walking" influences people to abandon their belief in capitol punishment.

As usual, they want it both ways, and then some.

bal, I'm happy for you that you're one of Garofalo's few fans.  I might be too if she would remember her craft, not take herself so seriously and importantly in the public voice, and just shut up and act.

Perhaps, but I believe by the end of that movie lessons were learned about values of family, and working hard for what you need, not coming by it easily, and not lying.  Actually, if you want to get really deep, I could see the Bear as Big Government hoarding what belongs to the people, and demanding the people provide more and more for the government to consume ... Could you see it as a lesson in individual responsibility?  Since it's currently running on HBO I've seen it, thanks to my young daughter, many times and can see hidden values messages within.  Even the raccoon's guilt leads him to mend his ways.

Watch it again and maybe see it from a different angle.
