Going golfing, and we have a new first time ever player.

This is going to be a blast.

Pick up after 10 strokes ( usually almost halfway down the fairway), then toss one on the green to putt, then subtract all the whiffs and dribblers and mark the scorecard accordingly, just like the junior years. LOL Big fish stories aren't only for fishing.

(sure will be fishing the golfballs out of the water hazards)

On a par 4s take the tee shot.  If it is inside the 150 marker, play it.  If not, pick it up and move to the 150, then play from there.  On par 5s, play the second shot off a tee as well.

Now...you can choose to believe her, or perhaps Jolie saw the backlash, which clashed with her image makeover, and quickly backtracked, throwing her management under the bus.

Isn't it nice when you have "management" to blame your mistakes on?  Paris Hilton pulled that line a few weeks ago with her "management".  (Of course I think her "management" was probably like the one seen on Carnivale).  Whatever happened to people that stand up and take responsibility for their decisions?

Nifong

It's another fox session guarding the henhouse no doubt.

I guess the power of the overlords is so great already that not a single person dared beat Nifong to a pulp on the "tarmac", which is probably the only thing close to justice, and certainly removal of his law license doesn't cut it my book. It's not even close to cutting it.

If he is given ALL of the sentences consecutively he tried to perp upon the 3 Duke players, I'd forego the idea he needs to bleed, then get tossed in for a year or two.

Any idea that he didn't know they were innocent is beyond ridiculous, but I'd bet a million bucks that's 90% of what will be heard in that courtroom.

How is what went on before it was stopped any different than communism or totalitarianism. Well it isn't, but I guess in the two latter situations it isn't stopped. Too close for any sort of comfort, and far too expensive for the falsely accused when the powers know it. It's dirty corruption, and it seems to me the public and the people directly involved are far better than the msm or the powers that be, by the very fact someone hasn't beat the tar out of Nifong.

I guess that lunatic saying " Don't do that or you'll have lost and you'll be as bad as the terrorists(or whomever)" is ground down so deep in the American psyche form the boob tube that even the perps in the government lay claim to it in war with the enemy, and the "people" proclaim it for themsevles even as the government trounces them into the dirt.

Paris Hilton is not the first person to be famous for doing nothing.  Al Sharpton was doing it before Paris was born.

Oh, Paris did something (or, in green night-vision-cam, someone!) all right...The thing that gets me about Paris is that I'm just about the only person who calls her "a porn star." Apparently, sufficiently extreme wealth insulates a girl, in the case of a fawning news media. Since I'm extremely unlikely to recieve the favors many of us saw another guy get from Paris, I see no need to shade the facts. Paris is a porn-star. She may also be a vapid, do-nothing heiress, too, but in the end she's just like all the other pornstars (especially, if we're to believe the sheriff, mentally!).
JMR

Al Sharpton's phantom appearance

Well fat Al probably found out that 56 other ethno blacks and spics were let out early with no ankle bracelet the day of the Paris pummeliing. Then he could have checked how about 233,000 are either let out early or given zero jailtime, like in 2005...most of them the ethno variety, 40,000 a year of which are given the lesser time instead of no time, meaning the no timers are the other 193,000 a year, or 528 a day in LA county.

lol - sorry Al, you'll have to get a lot more radical to improve that affirmative action issue.

I think that the recent and well deserved backlash on the immigration 'reform' legislation is partly because of the changes in Airline security and the debate over Gitmo.

The people have suffered to the nth degree with Airline travel, intrusive random searches, PC non-profiling and actual fear from fake Mullahs in Minnesota that they are demanding less sacrifice from their own lives, e.g. illegals allowed amnisty; and more action from a bloated over-taxing and weak government.

For my fellow NB RUSH fans:No

For my fellow NB RUSH fans:

Note: I had meant to post this at lunch yesterday, but wasn't able due to well, whatever.

My brother and I were privileged to attend the first performance of Rush's 2007 World Tour, which kicked off here Wednesday night in Atlanta. The concert was held at our local (insert name of major electronics retailer here) amphitheater, which they have been playing more of on the last several tours, which, sadly, are becoming fewer and farther between. The weather was surprisingly cooperative, as the usual afternoon thunderstorms we are accustomed to around here never materialized. It was perfect.

Just like the R30 show, they started off with a dream sequence video. It was extremely funny, more so than even Jerry Stiller's part in the last tour's intro. The first thing you notice is the lighting has been seriously re-worked and a wider range of colors have been employed compared to R30 and Vapor Trails. The two dryers and the vending machine behind Geddy have been replaced with three box-like objects, but I was too far away to see what they actually were.

I don't want to give away too much about the set list, as I know some fans (like me) like to be surprised, but they (finally) started off a show with Limelight.  :-)

Some quick points, then I gotta go:

-Actuall on-stage playing time was +/- 2.5 hrs.

-They played a lot off the new album, including The Main Monkey Business, one of three great instrumentals on the album. Alex plays a lot of accoustic guitar and mandola in this show. Really cool.

-Cool cartoon intro for Tom Saywer involving the South Park kids. Utterly hilarious.

-Neal has new drum kit and has tweaked the electronic part of it for a little different sound. His solo was a little shorter, but still great (He is 53, after all).

-They actually played something from Permanent Waves that wasn't Spirit of Radio-and they played that, too.  :-)

They also played A Passage To Bankok, one of my all-time faves. They didn't play Working Man (my brother nearly cried) or Xanadu, Closer to the Heart or The Trees either. :-(

-There were a few minor glitches, due to the fact that it was the first real performance of the tour, but nothing major.

If you are a true fan, you may want to make plans to see them on this run, as they aren't getting any younger.

Sad they are not doing much of their old stuff.

On Rush, Symphony X, and Dream Theater

I am plotting eagerly to see them in Houston.  All that needs to happen are my dates and times to align...and...I'M IN!!!

In defense of Rush, though...as a friend of mine once told me, "They can play for six straight hours and they STILL won't play every song you want to hear!"  So true, considering the enormity of their catalog!

(Side note before I go on: have any of you hardcore Rush fans read any of Neil Peart's books?  If you have not, you need to.  Ghost Rider is a flat-out moving read.  Roadshow will give you a greater, deeper insight into this amazing band.  The Masked Rider and Traveling Music are also quite enjoyable, and show that Neil has a gift for prose as much as he does for poetry.)

I am faced with a bit of a quandary, however: Rush arrives here in mid-August, and I will have two more shows to see before then.  One is Symphony X.  Haven't heard them?  Go check those guys out; they are releasing a new album shortly.

The other show is none other than DREAM THEATER.  I have Systematic Chaos, as I pre-ordered it online (as I do ALL Dream Theater albums), and the only flaw is the political nature of the lyrics of "Prophets of War", but other than that, it is once again a showcase of intense, powerful musicianship and virtuosity.  I have seen them play seven times since 1993, and will do everything I can to see them play again (I flew quite some distance to see one show in particular as they didn't stop in TX that year.)

Anyone catch Bill O'Reilly ta

Anyone catch Bill O'Reilly talking to Davy Jones about why The Monkees aren't in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, despite selling, I believe, 63 million records and four number one albums... plus songs that are still popular today? Of course, the reason lies with the biases of Rolling Stones' Jann Wenner, who basically controls the nomination process and doesn't feel they deserve it because they weren't a real band?

That is a ridiculous reason. How many Motown-type groups now in the hall of fame were pieced together in much the same way, yet did not score the same phenomenon that the Monkees did between 1966-69?

From what I gathered, Wenner is the reason that highly successful progressive rock groups like Genesis, Yes, ELP, Rush, etc. are getting the shaft. Meanwhile, second tier performers like Patti Smith are nominated. Wenner makes the Hall of Fame a joke.

(Hey, The Monkees just came up on my iPod. What a coincidence!)

Merry Christmas 2007.

I think a band has to put out

I think a band has to put out a record at least 25 years ago, and have been shown to influence the development of rock and roll. The Sex Pistols had but one studio album (and a couple bootlegs, I think), but that was all it took to influence the whole hardcore/punk movement.

I  think Leon is right. I am not sure how the Monkees influenced rock and roll. Sure, they had cool tunes, but how did they influcne rock? Look at 2007's inductees REM and Van Halen and Grandmaster Flash. Those folks influenced music for years to come. Not too sure about Patti Smith and the Ronettes, though.

On the other hand, bands like White Lion and Trixter are keeping the fire burning!
