Down CNN's Memory Hole

Remember all the false reports coming out of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina? Don't try to relive them at CNN. The network has gone back and corrected a report that originally talked about snipers on the rooftops without any sort of retraction.

Remember in 1984, where Winston's job was to revise newspapers of the past to keep up with the ever changing present? This is very interesting. A couple years ago, during the Katrina disaster, I linked to a CNN report and quoted it [...]

One of my readers ran into that posting of mine--and noticed that the CNN report at that link no longer said anything like that. It was much, much more upbeat. Nothing about the police snipers on the roof. Did I copy the wrong link? Did I have a brief attack of delusion, and make something up?

Isn't it funny how the liberal media never held accountable the low lifes who looted, rioted and turned NO into a "war zone"? I guess they were too busy bashing GWB to place blame on the poor downtrodden "victims" who acted like primitive savages and took advantage of an opportunity to loot, kill and cause mayhem.

UNBEFRIKINLIEVABLE!
While the MSM and their industry are canstantly stretching
everything our President does into a bad 1984 metaphor.......
CNN gets caught doing EXACTLY what Orwell concieved the
Evil State would do, and what is the MSM's response?

And you wonder why we have a fundamental problem with the MSM in here.  Where is the incentive to get the story right when you wield the power to re-write history under the cloak of darkness?

I live here in South La,(40 miles north of N.O.) and I can tell you first hand that CNN's reporting never did resemble what was going on. The first few days they spent bashing the Feds when it was the Governor and the Mayor holding up the relief. They had tons of equipment up here on the north shore within hours and days, only to sit idle until the Governor finally declared (with Bush's insistence) a state of emergency. Not to mention N.O. Mayor not calling for a mandatory evacuation until the last minute and then not lifting a finger to help those without transportation. I have tons of stories that are never mentioned in the MSM. These Dems down here still cant get it together. Thankfully our Governor (Blanco: what's in her head) is going to be gone soon, as for N.O.they may not recover for some time. Between the lousy leadership in the Mayors office and the simple fact he would rather play blame games with the Feds instead of working with them to clean up and start the rebuilding who knows what will become of it.

BTW while I am ranting about this a bit, most folk dont really understand the real situation down here. The Business districts are pretty much up and running, but the residential areas are the places still a mess. That is why so many continue to be displaced, much of the properties were rentals and even most of the home owners didn't have flood or and insurance of any kind. This is part of what has made this such a stagnate mess. The folks whom own the rental property would like to increase its value, and home owners cant or are not allowed to rebuild. I even  had to help my SIL and Daughter buy a place up here because they lost their place in the city. So when you here folks telling the N.O. residents to go home, believe me between the contractors that have bought the illegals and have rented everything there is.There simply isn't any where for them.

I mean honestly, why do you think we never here about the hard hit States of Miss, Texas, or Fla? Hint check out their leadership!!

CNN

I didn't hear or read anything about snipers in New Orleans during Katrina and its aftermath - I was busy standing in line getting MRE's and water and ice. In fact, I didn't learn of the devestation (completely) until I was able to leave the state. Then there were news specials and documentary's everywhere being broadcast on television even while people were still attempting to get help or evacuate in October 2005.

False reports from major news outlets is quite common during Katrina.  I couldn't even get good information from local government or emergency personnel due to the ever evolving nature of emergency situations.

As far as CNN is concerned, their credibility is at issue due to Matt's discovery. I myself discovered that CNN doesn't even keep up with their own news stories. The following excerpt is an example.

CNN makes a singular mention of the ICMP in December 2005.

Hurricane dislodged coffins, scattered bodies across Louisiana
Author: DOUG SIMPSON Associated Press Writer
Date: October 14, 2005
Publication: Associated Press Archive

The ICMP could be specific to Katrina identifications, but who
really knows the difference after two successive hurricane disasters? CNN does not even mention the ICMP
nor does the Associated Press in the last six months to one year. I
searched for the year of 2005 as well and came up with bupkiss using: coffins, dislodged, ICMP, International Coalition of Missing Persons, hurricane etc.

CNN Anderson Cooper’s 360 Blog

The blog mentions, but doesn’t link to its previously mentioned
post. I’ll have to search for it , however, there is a discrepancy in
its post today. CNN states the following:

Last year on this blog, we told you about a warehouse in
New Orleans down the street from the Superdome that housed the
unidentified and unclaimed dead from Hurricane Katrina. At the time, there was no plan for the 101 bodies sitting in airtight coffins in the nondescript warehouse.

Now let’s get the math straight. 2007 minus 2006 =’s last year. The
ICMP states on 29 December 2005 that the State of Louisiana had put
them in charge of identification. Nowhere else can I verify the ICMP
claim, except through the radio source that I initially learned of the
ICMP. I am familiar with the organization since approximately 2003 -
2004 when Jim appeared on Laura Ingraham’s
radio show. CNN made small mention of bodies in need of burial, and
commenters were sore about it all, but CNN did not post information
concerning the issue of identification of those bodies. To my knowledge
there were at least two bodies unidentified and buried in Mississippi
after the disasters. (unverified newspaper article 2006)

Louisiana Questions CNN’s inability to follow up on its own article. Right along with Matthew’s article at NewsBusters.org.

Louisiana Questions if the ICMP is still in charge of making those
identifications as declared by their 29 December 2005 news release. The
news release can be found at the ICMP website.

See: Beyond Katrina, ICMP , CNN , Associated Press,

I didn't see his "last years post" the only post I could identify was from December 2005 from CNN. I've emailed the ICMP, but have recieved no response to date.

This website lists the deceased and missing victims of hurricane katrina. Can CNN get the WHOLE story? I doubt it. They can't even keep track of their own articles     revisions.
