I ditto that.
I have listened to him for years and years now on the House floor, while I agree with a lot, there is a lot I do not, and the war is one of them, and him calling for the UN to take care of everything did it for me...this was awhile ago, I do not have links, but I know what I heard.
The UN...oh please...we should get out of the UN.
sarc will have plenty to say....lol!
Thompson/Hunter or Tancredo for me!
Did anyone else see the Thompson interview last night on FOX with Hannity, made my day....

Thanks for the link. Fred is the candidate for me because he talked about the two most important issues this country faces, terrorism and our borders.
Run Fred..... RUN!

May 2, 2007 - 15:06 ET by UnsaneAccording to what I've seen, this guy is completely terrified that there IS a world beyond the borders of the United States. In short, he is an extreme isolationist. On that score alone, he for me is a no-go.
If he became President, how long would it be before people would be imprisoned for even looking at the borders of the United States, or possessing a vaild passport? :-)

And yes, I am exaggerating his views...but I fear only slightly. He will not get my vote.

May 3, 2007 - 01:30 ET by WhichWingI like him. I've yet to hear something come out of his mouth that doesn't make sense. I understand that you don't like his feelings on foreign policy, is that your main disagreement? Or do you have others?
I was just curious what some of you on right think of him. Why you do or don't like him.

May 3, 2007 - 01:34 ET by UnsaneHe violates - grossly - my principles on foreign policy (by in effect not having one and hoping and praying that the rest of the world Just Goes Away). Hence he will not get my vote. Ever.
I don't need to know what other policies he has. That right there is enough of a disqualifier for me.

May 2, 2007 - 15:07 ET by RJYou're kidding, WhichWay. He's often been discussed here by Sarcasmo and others. Kind of lame that you didn't know that.
Oh, wait. Are you about to tell us he's involved in your favorite topic....a conspiracy?

May 2, 2007 - 15:41 ET by ThoughtPoliceWhat the hell? This guy said less in 10 minutes than George Bush during his turn at a book club. I don't know what his policies are? He mentioned Iraq/Iran/nuclear weapons/borders without going into ANY detail? And you think this guy has good ideas?
Every single video of Ron Paul that I have seen are as straight forward as it gets. You want to know his stance on Fiscal policy? Watch him. You want to know his opinion about Iraq? Watch him. You want to know his opinion about the borders? Watch him. He has nothing to hide because he knows thats what the people want. Every interview of his I see, the interviewer's are always stunned at how much info he gives. That Fred guy (didn't I see him in some movie?) needs to get with the program. You can't go on for 10 minutes without even mentioning a single strategy.
Ron Paul may not win (If he did he would probably be assassinated), but he sure as hell knows what he stands for, and that is what we need right now: Someone who knows what they want.

I didn't give an opinion of Ron Paul, so why the outrage? Has that clouded your mind even more than usual? I ask because your first paragraph makes no sense at all, and the rest of your post is only marginally better.

May 2, 2007 - 17:20 ET by WhichWingI was not aware of any previous discussion here about Ron Paul, as I've only been a member for about 2 months.
What does he say about a conspiracy? (Or was that just a cheap shot at me?)
I posted thist because I only recently heard of Ron Paul and liked some of the things he had to say, and I was curious what some of you thought.

Ron Paul/Libertarian Party
May 2, 2007 - 16:09 ET by Dave RAs much as it pains me to say this, the Libertarian Party has lost me for the time being for two reasons:
1)Their position on border security/illegal immigration is pretty much the same as tumbler's. I don't think I need to explain that one to those of you who have even a passing interest in this site.
2)Their isolationism. I realize that putting our collective (God I hate that word) heads into the sand and letting the rest of the world "stew in its own juices" is rather tempting. However, we now live in a nuclear age, one in which our very way of life is threatened by not only rogue nations that possess nukes (North Korea, China, Russia, Pakistan and possibly Iran very soon), but also elements of a 7th Century political movement that have vowed repeatedly to impose their ignorant and barbaric way of life over this entire planet. Believe me, the Muslim barbarians are not as far from realizing this goal as many people seem to believe. We cannot afford to isolate ourselves from the world. The stakes are much too high.
It has been said that if this country is to be saved, it will be only libertarian principles, if not the Libertarian Party itself, that will save it. I agree 110%. However, the current leadership of my chosen political party is going to have to reform its views, or be replaced.
I have a great deal of respect for Mr. Paul, and I agree with most of his positions, but the two issues I mention above are far, far too important to over look.

May 2, 2007 - 16:26 ET by bigtimerI agree Dave,
I used to think I was a complete libertarian years ago, but well, times and circumstances let alone listening and reading changed my views...Harry Brown was one of my guys a few years back...well, more than a few now, do not know what ever happened to him.
I listened to their platform on C-Span along with their arguments more than once, still do when they show them..... while I agree with a lot, there just are some I do not, the position's you explained and also abortion...they have different views too.

May 2, 2007 - 16:48 ET by Dave Rbt,
Sadly, Mr. Browne is no longer with us. I believe he died about a year ago.
I voted for him in 2000, but that was before 9/11. I voted for GWB in '04, but I have reached the point where I wish I hadn't, as he has pretty much soured me on the republicans-not that the party "leadership" hasn't had a role in that as well.
I just hope that Fred T. and Tom T. are on the ticket in '08, as they are the only true conservatives, besides Newt, in the mix. As for Newt, I really don't think he can win, though he probably is the smartest of the three and would make a formidable counter to fish-face Carville, the #1 Hildebastard, as a first-rate political advisor.
Rudy I would vote for only if The Hildewench somehow snares the dem nomination.
This republic will not survive the continued neglect of its people.-

Wow Dave, thanks for the info
May 2, 2007 - 16:55 ET by bigtimerWow Dave, thanks for the information, I really liked Harry, I too voted for him, but I do not think it was 2000, I could have dates wrong but it was in the 90's, wasn't he up in 96?..... Oh well, matters not now....I voted for Bush both times.
I think Hunter is very conservative to along with Tancredo...I love them both equally...that's why always say Thompson?hunter or Tancredo.
...anyway thanks again, Mr. Browne was a great man IMHO.
Fred Thompson
May 2, 2007 - 17:22 ET by Conservative VoiceI really like fred, but there is one thing that is bothering me greatly. Apparently he was part of the campaign finance reform bill, which should of been shot down because of the first admendment.
I use to be a Newt guy, but he failed me in his debate with Kerry, and the more I find about him the more I can no longer support him as President. Maybe as an advisor.
I like Rudy, but his position against the second admendment is scary.
I like Mit, but his health care program troubles me, but at least it isn't against the constitution. The other thing Mit has going for him, is like Rudy he has executive experience.

His position on privacy and liberty I find more things to disagree with him with than agree.

May 2, 2007 - 18:00 ET by Dave RWhich is why I believe the man has become dillusional. That was one of the most hideous pieces of legislation I have ever seen.
What is worse is that George W. Bush actually signed the thing and an alledgedly "conservative" SCOTUS upheld it.
I'm beginning to wonder if we have all been taken for a ride by these people. Believe me, there are many in the republican party that aren't exactly fond of free-speech, either. At least not as I define the term.
This republic will not survive the continued neglect of its people.-
