The reason Europe did this was because ever since we bailed out their collective heinies for the second time in WWII, they have had a serious inferiority complex and feelings of inadequacy compared to the U.S. that is why they formed the E.U., they felt that was the only way they could have any legitimacy or strength in the world forum. They felt there needed to be a counterbalance to the U.S. especially since the fall of the Soviet Union, but as you can see the E.U. is just as corrupt and ineffectual as the U.N. The U.S. has no need to form a union with Canada and Mexico.
