Today the USA Today published April 11, 2007 - 10:22 ET by BD Today the USA Today published a story entiteled "Army Reserve Falters On Recruitment As More Troops Go Active" by Tom Vanden Brook. Try as hard as they might, they cannot find the good in the actual story, that more individuals are enlisting in positions that are almost guaranteed combat zone duty as compared to enlisting in positions that MIGHT see combat zone duty. How could that be a bad news story? Well, USA today will find a way to paint it as such don't ya know.... Oh, and as liberal journo's are wont to do, they bury the good news in the last lines of the story that can be cropped at a moments notice and are rarely read. Still, the Reserve has exceeded its goal by 13% this year in re-enlisting soldiers, according to the Army. More than 10,000 reservists have re-enlisted. Stultz called the reservists sent to battle the "best trained and best equipped we've ever had." Tried to tell him that the stories on the guard and reserve meeting recruiting and reenlistment goals seemed to belie his contention. Why is that every anti-war person seems to know all the people who aren't re-upping? Just yesterday, once again, I heard some politician, in some state, whining that because the guard is being utilized so much in Iraq, that preparedness for the upcoming hurrican season is going to be adversely impacted. When are people going to realize, or acknowledge. that the Guard's primary mission is not humanitarian? Their first mission is fighting. Give a Democrat Party free America a chance! Everyone has forcaseted that the army will crack, rebel, or essentially dissolve for the past three years, but it hasn't happened yet and I see no evidence that it will. Units deployed during WWII went overseas for up to four years without returning home and somehow managed to survive the event. Regarding your last point, I also concur. Americans do not know their own military history. The bulk of the low number divisions deployed during WWII were National Guard units that were federalized including the first unit deployed OCONUS to europe which was the 34th Infantry Division (Redbull) Minnesota/Iowa National Guard which did not come home until late 1945. The first unit deployed OCONUS to the pacific Theater was similarly a regiment from the North Dakota National Guard which reinforced the Marines on Guadalcanal. They did not come home for four years. But somehow having a 14 month on/ 20 month at home OPTEMPO is going to destroy my Army? Huh? However, I do have some stray comments about it. Last year, on Meet the Press, a priest complained that religious issues don't get the attention they deserve. Tim Russert indignantly interrupted the priest, arguing that he (Russert) was devoting a whole hour of network time to a religious debate. A whole hour! Has anyone calculated the hours of precious network time spent on Anna Nicole Smith? When they announced the actual father of Smith's baby, the "winner" raised his hands in exultation. He began thanking a long list of people. He bragged that he "told us so." Just in case anyone's wondering ... the child's mother was never mentioned, nor was her death mourned for a second. On a strictly personal note, it seems that I'm the only person in America who didn't sleep with Anna Nicole Smith. (Tom Lantos, D-Feat, has admitted they were in Syria offering an alternative policy to Assad, ie. breaching the Logan Act.) There is always a CITIZEN'S ARREST... and fortunately both California and D.C. offer a legal remedy. The California Penal Code gives any citizen the right to make a citizen's arrest of another citizen in three alternative situations: 1. A public offense was committed or attempted in the citizen's presence. 2. The person arrested has committed a felony, although not in the citizen's presence. 3. A felony has been in fact committed and the citizen has reasonable cause for believing the person arrested has committed it. Now on the surface, the DC code seems to have an insurmountable barrier, in that... District of Columbia Law 23- 582(b) reads as follows: (b) A private person may arrest another - (1) who he has probable cause to believe is committing in his presence - (A) a felony, or (B) an offense enumerated in section 23-581 (a)(2); However, if one stretches the spirit of the Logan Act, the act of negotiating is by itself, a long term affair that must occur over a timeframe... Therefore it may be reasonable to infer that Pelosi may be thinking about her felonious behavior at the time you see her on the D.C. street. So please ARREST THIS WOMAN.
