April 1, 2007 - 19:50 ET by BlondeRJ,
No idea....
I was in God's county (North Florida) riding horses...no TV, no internet....
Just got home to find out the good news that we're playing Ohio State (again).
Sooooo....I am optomistic!
Wish I'd come home soon enough to have my outfit dry-cleaned for tomorrow.
But I am pretty bloody happy about our chances!
And thanks, RJ, for asking!
(BTW....went by Okeechobee again....one of these days I'm going to stop...plus I saw a civil war era ruin in No. Fla...amazing!)
Good for you Blonde
April 1, 2007 - 19:58 ET by RJNo kidding? Good for you. My sister and her extended family lives around Bell, but I think that's probably a little north of where you likely were.

April 1, 2007 - 20:06 ET by BlondeRJ,
So who is your pick for the Final (as if you have to ask me!!!)?
Yes, absolutely.
It was a blast.
We rode along the Suwanee River....it was fabulous. I'd forgotten how gorgeous North Florida is....(I think I was north of Lake City...but is was pouring down rain when I got there...and I was following the horse trailer, so I'm not sure).
GO GATORS!!!!
(Oh how I wanted to stop in G'ville on the way through today...but I knew the stores wouldn't be open....:D)

April 1, 2007 - 20:17 ET by RJFlorida, of course. But I know nothing about Ohio State.
My sister's home is ON the Suwanee. ;^>

ON the Suwanee? Lucky dog, you.
It was so beautiful there....I'd never seen it before (me...a native of So. Fla., d'oh!).
I can't wait until tomorrow night.

April 1, 2007 - 20:44 ET by BlondeSorry, RJ....
Lost my internet connection...takes about 5 minutes to get back.
Your sister shouldn't feed the gators....that's idiotic. They're prehistoric creatures, and NOT nice.
Why do you think we GATORS call it the Swamp?
So, Blonde, you ride English?

April 1, 2007 - 21:17 ET by BlondeRJ,
No, actually Western.
I've ridden English in the past...but it's kind of sissy.
Plus, I don't have the boots for it.
The horses belong to a friend of mine.
She used to ride with me years ago....when I'd ride to class and tie my horse up to a tree. Now I ride with her.
I ride Western, too.
April 1, 2007 - 21:32 ET by RJCool. I ride Western, too. Like you, I can ride English, but don't like it.
Ride your horse to class? Every day? Where was that?
We'd occasionally ride out to a small country "cafe" or restaurant. It was cool to tie up our horses while we ate or snacked at an outdoor table, then ride off into the sunset.
Sometimes, though, the embassies would get together and we'd ride out to a picnic. It was a sight to see 50 or 60 horses/riders galloping across the plain. Looked like an old western movie....except they all rode English... ;^>

April 1, 2007 - 21:38 ET by BlondeRJ,
I was never in a foreign land riding horses.
Right here in South Florida.
I used to ride to BCC (Broward Community College).
I made so many good friends that way...everyone wanted a ride to their car.
To this day, we all laugh about it. Of course, I'd leave my car at the stables....but we had alot of fun riding around the campus. I even rode my horse up the stairs and into a classroom once. The teacher was NOT pleased! But it was pretty funny. (I can't for the life of me imagine what I was thinking riding my horse up a staircase.....but then, what on earth does a teenager ever think?....and I have no clue how I got him back down that bunch of stairs....sheesh!!!!!)
That's awesome, Blonde
April 1, 2007 - 21:46 ET by RJLOLOL! That's awesome! And the teacher didn't get you suspended or something? He (I bet it was a he) must have actually been pretty cool. Bet your horse thought you were, nuts, though.

April 1, 2007 - 21:49 ET by BlondeActually, RJ...it was a "she". And no, no suspension. Thinking on it...I think it was a dare, and there were a bunch of clapping people on the second floor!
And I clearly remember riding the horse up the stairs.
But the rest of it.......
As I said....I used to be really, really crazy!

OK, Blonde, another horse tale of youthful insanity
April 1, 2007 - 22:07 ET by RJOK, Blonde, another horse tale of youthful insanity...stupid, but true. ;^>
On one of our rides up into the mountains, we came across a small cave, about 4 feet high (hobbit size?). We could see that it got larger past the opening and decided to check it out. We drew straws to see who got to go in, and I "won" (lost?), so I grabbed a bunch of dried grass to make a torch.
After semi-crawling past the opening, I stood up and followed the passageway down a couple of twists, when.......MY TORCH WENT OUT. I stood still, and in the silence and TOTAL darkness, I could hear rustling. Well, I turned and scrambled back to the opening. I came bursting through the mouth and both horses reared up and took off at a gallop.
Took us a while to capture them.....but I never did figure out what was in that cave. I mean, it was Africa! Snakes? Giant Indiana Jones spiderwebs? Wild animals? Somebody's home? Who knows? I guess we could have come back with flashlights, but by unspoken agreement we never went up that particular trail again.....

April 1, 2007 - 22:15 ET by BlondeRJ,
I am laughing about that little tale.
You are a far braver soul than I, Obi Wan.
I can barely stand a high speed elevator.
Caves and dark places are nowhere I would voluntarily go!
Although I did swim into the caves in the Itchnitucknee springs, way back when....but there was always a bit of daylight over my head!
I'm surprised you didn't knock yourself silly trying to get out of that cave. I'd probably have fallen on the ground and given myself a heart attack!
Africa? You'll have to expand upon that...it sounds fascinating.
Itchnitucknee Springs (and caves) are beautiful, Blonde
April 1, 2007 - 22:25 ET by RJYeah, Blonde, Itchnitucknee Springs (and caves) are beautiful...and crystal clear. Did you also tube the Itchnitucknee? It's a great, slow drift...
As for being "brave"...for one thing, me and Indy don't much care for snakes.... ;^>
And I did let out a bellow as I scraped my side....see, I actually dove through the opening....no wonder the poor horses spooked.

March 31, 2007 - 11:27 ET by dahliatraversFor those who missed it (and I believe NewsBusters covered it), this is Feinstein-gate:
A veteran California senator has resigned as chair of a powerful military construction committee after reports that for years she abused her position to award her husband’s companies billions of dollars in government contracts.
During her six years as chair and ranking member of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee, Senator Dianne Feinstein annually supervised the appropriation of billions of dollars for specific military construction projects. The San Francisco lawmaker supervised her own staff of military construction experts and she lobbied Pentagon officials to support her favorite projects.
She wielded quite a bit of power and succeeded in steering hundreds of billions of dollars in military contracts to companies partially owned by her wealthy husband, Richard Blum. One company alone earned $792 million from military construction and environmental cleanup projects approved by Feinstein’s committee and another $759 million.
The blatant ethics violation and obvious conflict of interest was first exposed earlier this year by a weekly Northern California publication.
http://www.corruptionchronicles.com/2007/03/violations_force_feinstein_mil.html
She used her position to steer government contracts to her husband's company?? Um ... isn't this a fairly significant ethics if not criminal violation? Where is the msm on this? Wouldn't this be getting a little more play if she were a Republican?
O'Reilly/Rivera
March 31, 2007 - 11:47 ET by iveseenitallOn O'Reilly last night, Geraldo Rivera showed his true colors. While fluffing off Rosie's comments against America as "free speech" and "defening to the death her right to do it", in the next breath he stated that no one had the "right" to insult him and his hispanic culture. Typical liberal, elitist hypocrisy. He and his liberal friends can insult you and America with impunity, but don't you dare do it back to them. Who made him the arbiter of what is " free speech" and what is not? Can't have it both ways, Jerry.
NEVER,NEVER trust a liberal
of course geraldo is true to his cause
March 31, 2007 - 13:31 ET by tumbler_2007Yes; he's a true liberal. He is no more closed-minded than some of the Right's yahooes here who advocate spilling blood and declaring war on our neighboring country. They also smell of their extremist bullshiet.
If it seems hypocritical to you that a liberal defends his own code, don't bother to fight the man, fight the code. It's no different from the Ku Klux Klan's code; just on a different course. What we are and what we do-- is not according to our liberal or conservative roots. It's our good will, the grace of God helping us do combat with ALL evil.
What's more, Geraldo's hispanic culture is very worthy of upholding and defending. It seems everybody in these threads has determined it's bad and has to be slapped around and hated by all good white men. Geraldo has NOT insulted America or you. I can't recall any of you mighty warriors ever even bringing up GOOD WILL in these debates. I'M the only one who does. You call it "good" to hate the Left. That is all yyou hang out here for; to lambast liberals and the Left. They're just as American as us conservatives. Beat them at POLITICS, not at HATRED.

March 31, 2007 - 14:24 ET by iveseenitallJust said to someone that you'd be the first to respond. You, Tumbler, are a blind man filled with hate for anyone who disagrees with you. For them, you have not an ounce of your so-called "good will". No wonder there was a Protest Reformation. Sad.
why shouldn't I respond ?
March 31, 2007 - 14:39 ET by tumbler_2007Dear seen it but not all:
Nobody else is about to respond against bigotry here, Dear. I'm the sole defender of human dignity you ever see or mix with. Why ?
All this site seems to welcome is extremists who fall right into lock-step with people exactly agreeing with your hatred. If I were here promoting hatred, the editors wouldn't allow me to dispute with you. They'd simply block my participation. I'm sure YOU would, if you had any authority. Because you can't handle the truth; that you are thoroughly steeped in white supremacy. Not human brotherhood or good will. RACE is what troubles you.
You're the one here who first posted about illegal immigrants: "They'll destroy our country ! ! ! What a bunch of claptrap !

Crumbler...
March 31, 2007 - 15:33 ET by Guy Arthur ThomasI am far from in LOCK-STEP with many here but I certainly am able to see as clearly as they, with whom I am sure I am in disagreement on some issues, that you long ago crossed over to being inebriated with your own seething rage, bitterness and total social implacability. I am actually FOR a process to give citizenship to many illegals...but I certainly am against people like you who only see ONE color...brown...and one substance...greasy.
I am pro-choice (used for reasons of expediency and not agreement with the definition used by many of pro-choice), I am for legalization of pot, I do reject many aspects of the Patriot Act, I do NOT support the decision to form the Department of Homeland Security, I did not support the decision to go to war but strongly support the President and Congress since they decide to go to war. SO no, I am not in lock-step nevertheless, even through these possibly eyes I can see you are a Crusading Nut who has lost any reasonable input here. Adios.
Shut up and blog! If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!
you ARE in lock-step
March 31, 2007 - 17:22 ET by tumbler_2007Guy, of course you're in lock-step. You always try to kill the messenger. What about his message? Can you refute him without flying off the handle? NO.
You accuse Tumbler: " --inebriated with your own seething rage, bitterness and total social implacability. I am actually FOR a process to give citizenship to many illegals...but I certainly am against people like you who only see ONE color...brown...and one substance...greasy." (You're calling Mexicans "Greasers," aren't you?)
Where your attitude came from, I don't know. Because I've become a fixture here is no reason to say I'm seething, bitter, or implacable. No one ever TRIES to placate me; all you want is to damn me, and kill the messenger. You have no moral code. Imagine accusing me of "color, brown, grease." You ought to be ashamed.
I see you for a character assassin, that's all. I feel sorry for you, Guy. You have NEVER contributed a single decent or memorable post about ANYTHING. You're merely a counterfeit, a SLUG. Thank GOD I'll never fall into lockstep anywhere you march.

March 31, 2007 - 19:33 ET by FastEdMrB - when has the tumblebum EVER offered proof? We have asked on numerous times, posts, rants - where is the PROOF? The best defense against him is the offense and agreement - yes, we are everything you say we are - SO? we have as much a chance of changing his mind as rosie ahs of having one, so continue with you resonses, knowing his meds are low AND he assumes much - and you know about assumptions.
i.e. - he has asked that WE walk in someone else's shoes - he assumes we haven't. Wrong on that count, assumes we don't know what unwanted lawbreakers have to do to take care of a faimly, count 2 wrong. He assumes, therefore wrong. Look at the totality of his posts, his assumptions, twisting agendas, lack of proof. Continue the good fight, even with someone who isn't worth it - remember, even the mighty oak started as an acorn, that was fertilized!

FastEd re: Tumbler
March 31, 2007 - 19:48 ET by misterbillFastEd re: Tumbler-- I honestly believe he has a severe personality problem. He believes he is a modern day Diogenes. He carries the lantern seeking truth, (or so HE thinks). I did some reading a while back because of the interplay on this site among many members and Tumbler. Especially of interest was when he attacks newer members who befriend him. I am not going to waste any time posting again what I once posted to him re: psychosis, but he is indeed sick. He also, I am sure you noticed, convinced that Hispanics are superior.
Of greater concern to me than that little twerp--is the bills that are being proposed by certain members of the congress and the senate that will very rapidly lead to the ultimate demise of America as we love it. We have had an ever-evolving history in this great country. It has always been upwards in terms of goodness and glory. I fear that is all over. It is not Bush. That man got elected at , perhaps , one of the worst times in our history, in terms of an overwhelming liberal press (and public). He is now kowtowing to Mexico. Our time to fix our problems is short. Once again I urge everyone on this site to check out:

March 31, 2007 - 19:49 ET by RJThe problem with agreeing just to get him to stop is that he wouldn't stop. Tumbles is fixated on seeking out and dominating every illegal alien discussion on the board. I believe he's had some kind of psychotic break and has literally gone off the deep end.

March 31, 2007 - 19:52 ET by misterbilliveseenitall-- the other night he accused me of calling him a few names which I never did. Later in the evening, another blogger posted that it was he who had called Tumbler those names.Tumbler posted an off-hand apology to me that was easily glossed over. It was a trick that the MSM does all the time. How many people are going to remember the fine print apology versus the Block letters of accusation. I confess, that each day that goes by that I read his hateful lies is beginning to build up a resentment of the people he defends. I fear they will all be like him.

March 31, 2007 - 23:43 ET by mostlymoderateTumbler, unfortunately illegal aliens ARE destroying the country. Violence increases, drug use increases, poverty goes up, population goes up, hospitals become overcrowded, the education system suffers, the environment suffers, and teenagers can't find first-time jobs because the $5/dollar an hour "illegal" takes his pay under the table. Oh, and then there are the "gangs". You know that inner-city black youths are even afraid of the illegal-immigrant Mexican gangs? They are proving to be the most "VIOLENT" gangs ever. Whether they are from Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua or Colombia, illegal-immigrant gangs bring a new meaning to "violence".

April 1, 2007 - 00:08 ET by mostlymoderateYes, indeed. We need a massive fence between the U.S. and Mexico for sure. I wouldn't even mind paying an increase in TAXES to make sure that fence gets built. It should be 15 feet high and 5 feet wide atleast. There should be surveillance systems set up and electricity going through that fence. Plus, every illegal alien already in the country should be deported at Mexico's expense, either paid via cash or sanctions. Babies born in the U.S. from illegal immigrants should be given tender, loving care as they are SENT back to the family in Mexico. Also, the United States should NEVER let the percentage of immigrants from one particular country (i.e. Mexico) to far surpass the percentage of other countries. Enough is enough!!!!
Criminals

April 1, 2007 - 00:22 ET by mostlymoderateTell me about it! I live in Los Angeles. There are neighborhoods that I can't even drive through anymore for fear of being accosted. These same neighborhoods were FINE 10 years ago. Until you visit Los Angeles, CA you have no way of comprehending the "future" of the United States of America. It isn't the "individual" ILLEGAL CRIMINAL INVADERS that are the problem, it is the "group" they represent. Everybody wants to know why the U.S. has such a high crime/violence rate when compared to Canada et. al? Well, it boils down to illegals. Want to know what is scary? The illegals are making their way to Canada now too so guess what: crime is DRASTICALLY increasing in Canada as well! The latino invaders do not assimilate. They keep their old-country ties and customs. They refuse to learn English. They usually only associate with one another, separating themselves from American cultures, tradition, mores and values. They are MEXICAN or GUATEMALAN or COLOMBIAN before they are AMERICAN. Not good.
Canada...those stinkin' French!!
April 1, 2007 - 00:35 ET by gfrrmanCanada can have all the illegals they so desire. I'm sure they would welcome them with open arms. I don't know what kind of laws they have on illegal immigration there, but being French and all it probably isn't much. It's too bad you have to put up with that crap in Calif. I personally could not live in Calif. But we have a big enough problem with illegals here in Atlanta, GA. Murders, rapes, deaths from DUI hit and runs. You name it....Hell they even designated certain areas in some towns around here that are for the express purpose for the illegals to have a place to "safely gather" in order to get day labor work. It's ridiculous!!

April 1, 2007 - 00:41 ET by mostlymoderateYeah, I am going to get out of California as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I practice law here and would have to pass the BAR again for any state I move too. It's a big hurdle, but worth it. I visited Oregon last month but unfortunately it has a big illegal population too, as well as a lot of hippy-dope smoking "white" folks leftover from the 1960's. So now I am considering anything from Idaho East. Preferably a small town with lakes, rivers and wilderness surrounding it. I really want to get back to the "American Dream" where neighbors watch out for one another, crime is low, and everyone speaks English :-)

April 1, 2007 - 00:56 ET by mostlymoderateYeah, I don't know enough about Nevada. Utah is absolutely beautiful and Oklahoma is a nice place to buy a lot of land. Really cheap there, or atleast that is what I read. Yes, I feel like a political prisoner too. I don't understand why our politicians are sitting on their hands regarding the immigration issue. The cheap labor isn't EVERYTHING. It comes with too many "costs".
don't want to offend you
April 1, 2007 - 00:08 ET by tumbler_2007Please; save it for the book you're going to write. It's very true there are always bad apples. Not just in barrios; God knows those guys exist. We have a nephew (HAD, not have) who was gunned down by cholos while he was mowing his lawn. He was, his family is, 3rd generation Mexican-Americans. LEGAL. HE ONLY SPOKE ENGLISH! Nobody knows who the bad kids were; and least of all if they were illegal immigrants teenagers. That's the truth: YOU can state confidently the offenders come from Mexico, illegally and commit crimes. But you can't prove they are illegal if they aren't captured. You judge by a profile: they are dark-skinned, wear long hair, they wear gold chains, tattoos, etc, and seem to speak Spanish.
But is it because they crossed our border illegally? Who knows ? You can say so; but is it so?
We're a nation of 300 million people. If there are really 12 million illegals, which is a fair guess, how is this ratio of GOOD vs. BAD (as you assume, because most aren't even committing felonies) how is the ratio about to "destroy" this nation of 300 million ?" With poison gas ? You should put on your thinking cap. Stop basing everything on your emotions.
He was not attacking the cult
March 31, 2007 - 15:24 ET by James2306He was not attacking the culture but the code of liberlism that says only those deemed worthy of it have the right to free speech everyone has the right to insult who or what they want. As far as good will why would they bring it up when there has been no evidence of good will on the part of people who attack their values on a daily basis. The hispanic culture is worthy of defending but so is the american culture those who wish to be part of either need to assimilate into that culture not try to destroy it so as to bring their own into power.

March 31, 2007 - 18:23 ET by tumbler_2007There's no "code of liberalism." All there is is partisanship and hunger after power. --Politics.
No one interferes with our free speech, either. What happens a lot is, when one party speaks, the opposing party will NOT bend, they'd rather install a defense by hatred. They then sustain their views by promoting hatred of the opposite side.
It's like gang warfare; and it's below us; we're good people.
Let me also clarify something: Whoever told you illegal immigrants come here to "destroy our culture in order to bring themselves to power" is a liar. Illegals are like anybody else on earth. They want to become part of our consumer society. They see our movies, TV, they love how we live.
They never see the seamy side of our existence; or they think they can cope with that. When they take a chance, coming to the U.S. they create fear in people like you. But they only covet our happiness. Not our property. They wouldn't DREAM of destroying our culture or our country. Yes, they have to be deported. Only, why hate them like vermin ? That's not good.
We're a great people; we can support the law without constant lying and tantrums over that foreign intruder. Because he looks different, and speaks Spanish. What's so repugnant about that? That's what I've said was becoming only to RACISTS. It fits a racist's attitude, not a decent human being's.

March 31, 2007 - 20:03 ET by James2306If they want to become part of our culture then why the fight to not learn the language spoken here? Why take down a US Flag on American soil and raise the Mexican Flag? These are not the acts of someone who wants to become part of this society they are the acts of someone who wants this society to become something else. Please explain these actions taken by illegals to fit your arguments.

our culture
March 31, 2007 - 23:41 ET by tumbler_2007Stop this maudlin BS, James. You have no concept of how immigrants live here, legal or illegal.
The latest lie going around is that Mexicans arrive, ignore our customs and culture, and never learn English. That's a lie.
You should realize that THESE bogus charges have made me react so badly, when an otherwise good, upright American repeats them as if they're founded on facts. THEY AREN'T. Even the most primitive day laborer who works here illegally wants to learn English. Some are mature; they stick to the old ways. They don't even expect to remain in the U.S. Most want to save a nest-egg and go home to their people.
The young cats, they pick up English fast. One of the most common laments in Latin households is because their own kids no longer want to speak Spanish; not even at home ! They FORGET their Mexican heritage ! I'm telling you the truth! Yeah, there've been a lot of stupid demonstrations. But when have I ever defended them ? I deplored-- I hated what I saw last May 1st, being done by the radicals in their barrios. They set back their own cause. People will never respect that kind of defiance. I certainly won't.
It's politics. You have some bastrsds going around inciting dumb kids to get on camera; rabble rousers. Don't judge the ordinary Latin community by those SOBs. Show some adult discernment. The liberals throw gasoline on those fires. They do it to denigrate our Republican Party, naturally. See how all that affected our November mid-term election. Sheit hit the fan, after all the hate speech and rants. We were guilty of arousing huge resentment with the "Fence" rhetoric, as I repeatedly warned here in NewsBusters.

April 1, 2007 - 00:58 ET by James2306I have a very good idea of how they live here I have both lived next to them and worked beside them on many occasions in factories and in the construction trade I am by no means a professional in a suit. I have started a construction company of my own twice and have also hired many Mexican nationals. I have preferred them in many cases because they are far better workers than a lot of normal americans. I know that you cant paint everyone with the same brush. I have also met those who wish to stay but not assimilate. I never said that you defended them. You should also know that if they have a work visa that they are not required by law to pay any taxes I have been shown pay stubs to prove it when I expressed disbelief. A work visa is easy to get if you dont plan on staying, citizenship is much harder but I still expect them to do so legally. I have never had a problem with anyone who wants to better their own life but by doing so illegally they hurt themselves more than any one else. I have seen my hispanic neighbors living ten to a two bedroom apartment and personally slaughtering their own animals in the back yard for food, I have no problem with this having grown up working on farms and pickong fruit for pocket money when I was 14-15. The only way to work for money at that age. I have a very good idea how they live and I respect them for what they go through to send what little income they make to their families. Once again no one can know someone very well on this type of communication so its very easy to make that kind of judgement.

thanks for a fine post
April 1, 2007 - 03:53 ET by tumbler_2007Thank you, James;
You make me feel reassured today, after having fenced with so many incorrigible jerks.
It's not everybody who has the judgment and humanity to step back; realize that there but for the grace of God, there am I. Not because we think we can forget about the law. Just on account of seeing them struggle with everyday hardship. These poor suckers are in love with the United States; when they sneak in it's like a Paradise ! --Yes, I first realized this secret one day, in a supermarket back in San Diego.
I walked around and suddenly saw a tiny little Vietnamese boy running by me in the aisle. He was hardly bigger than the giant carton of corn flakes he had hugged in his little arms. He was racing by, laughing and skipping. He was an American ! You and I don't know what that means to an outsider who's been living in misery. And we never will.
The difference between that
April 1, 2007 - 06:49 ET by DontFeedTheTrollsThe difference between that tiny little Vietnamese boy and his family and the 20 million or so ILLEGAL immigrants is that the Vietnamese didn't break the law and sneak in, stealing the heritage of all law abiding Americans.
Bless that little boy and his legal brethren.
To hell with the ILLEGALS, deport them all.

there aren't 20 million
April 1, 2007 - 14:00 ET by tumbler_2007What is this hallucination of yours? You've become as loony as Liberals, simplistic Americans who created a giant fetish of Global Warming. No one's able to make a reasonable connection with them, their minds are made up. They then claim it's been proven by consensus, and we know it hasn't but their beat goes on.
Same with our lunatic fringe; insisting we have 20 million illegal aliens. What a crock. The fact is, you can't walk down the street without IMAGINING every dusky face is another illegal, when you're looking at our own hispanic, Mexican-American citizens. Why are you such fanatics? Of course it's legality that counts. But I'm here talking to you about the human spirit. Something you never take in account.
Why ? Hatred drives you to hallucinate and piss and moan. "Stealing the heritage of Americans-- ! Incredible ! Pure hatred for Mexicans.
you have never lived in Los Angeles
April 1, 2007 - 14:10 ET by Pragmatic-ManTumbler, you have obviously not lived in Los Angeles in the past few years. It is over-run with illegals, to the point that it is likely 8 out of 10 mexican faces you see. And with the visa travel restrictions placed on mexicans, it is now so difficult to legally transit to the US from mexico that they are surely illegal if they are here. And yes, it is there intent to replace American heritage with their own. The major advocacy group for the illegal immigrants in LA is called "La Raza" (spelling likely incorrect), which translates to "the race". They have no wish to assimilate, nor any reason or motivation to fit in. They are extermely racist and bigoted. It is a very difficult situation with real consequences taking place TODAY.
Dear prag-man
April 1, 2007 - 14:59 ET by tumbler_2007We'll leave our emotions out of it, see everything without bias. (Yes, I can do this.)
First, I've personally written in the past to the editors of the San Diego fishwrap excoriating this so-called "representation" of Mexican-American citizens; signed my name as a very irate Latin who does NOT accept La Raza. We can talk about that later. And not only do I have first-hand knowledge and experience in the border areas and in Baja; I also know parts of San Diego and Orange county in which all the billboards are in Asian script for miles. Lots of Viet, Korean and Thai neighborhoods where everybody's an immigrant.
South Central L A is where Mexicans congregate, both illegal and legal citizens. Nobody can tell me anything about this since I speak Spanish fluently, I met all those folks many times. I've had my company van swiped out of our parking lot, somebody snipped the wiring of its alarm system. A month later it turned up in Santa Rosa. Alien smugglers had removed its back seats and were vanning mojados out of Otay and San Ysidro all the way to L A and Northern Cal. I have seen it ALL.
Most illegals of necessity gravitate to ranches in Calif; and Los Angeles is crossed back & forth by streams of alien traffic. Yet, the established home making families aren't there in hordes. Sure, there's large numbers. They mix with their legal cousins. Anglo-Americans have no way of distinguishing the bad ones from the citizenry, who also speak Spanish every day. However, they're just as skilled in English. ALL their children speak English.
I've been friends with many illegal Mexicans, dating back to New Mexico in the 1950s. I know their personal agendas, and all their modus operandi; as if it were my own. (I'm a native-born Spanish American; not Mexican.) I've helped one family, back when an amnesty was granted; by obtaining them proof of residence so they could apply. I'm not ashamed of it; these were terrific people. They were really very conservative. They worked hard; became excellent American citizens.
The one certainty i was able to gather from this long experience is that a fence does no good. Illegals know all the dodges, they've been at this back and forth trafficking since pre-World War II days. Nothing stops them if they're determined.
However, one more thing always impressed me about them. Many stayed for just a few years; and invariably went home to their beloved Mexico. Some take root here; but a great number are always homesick. Do they love their own country? You better believe it. A good 30% of these Mexicans return to their land as soon as they get up a stake, and go start a little business in their home towns. Their kids sometimes go with them. Mexico allows them dual citizenship if they apply before some specified age.
They DO NOT intend in any way, to replace our heritage. Whoever sounds that note is either a wishful thinker (La Raza) or a devious liar. Usually it's somebody allied with shady Democrat politicians.
Everybody knows Democrats pander to all our minorities. --Ironically, it's the Democrats who call you and me extremely racist and bigoted. Here you are, calling THEM that. In many cases we seem to substantiate the charge; but by and large we aren't racists. I know I'm not.
tumbler, excellent post
April 1, 2007 - 15:11 ET by Pragmatic-ManTumbler, you are undoubtedly more intimate with the situation than I, so I will defer to your positions. I will, as I retreat my soap-box, explain why I, and many others like me, see it differently. I lived for less than a year in LA on Vermont Street, in Korea-Town, surrounded by immigrants. Most by far were mexican. There was no english spoken on the bus, the signage was spanish, and there was echoed everyday in the local LA media story after story about La Raza, about the mayor and his appeasement activities, about the bankrupt South Central hospitals, about MS13 gang killings, and about the huge marches complete with mexican flags. If, as you say, and you sound as qualified as any to be an expert on the situation, the majority lead their lives as temporary and dutiful immigrants (illegal as well), then why are they drowned out by this bigoted, vocal majority? This question is rhetorical, so don't consider it a shot across the bow. And thank you for a lengthy and most informative post.

April 1, 2007 - 14:13 ET by James2306Tumbler the census did not say there were 20 million it said 15 million and it did not say where they came from so I dont think that they would all be from hispanic cultures. In upstate NY the largest group of illegals caught were of RUSSIAN descent as white as anyone and at that the numbers given they would only be 1.5% of the total population and real easy to lose in this large country of ours

April 1, 2007 - 14:41 ET by John in CAI was shocked a couple of weeks ago when Ireland's PM was here and said there were fifty to seventy thousand illegal immigrants from Ireland here in the US!
Round them up and send them back too! Here's something else to tihnk about, Ireland isn't even a politically or economically failing country. Ireland is, IIRC, the most economically flourishing country in the EU. So, what compels them to have to come to the US illegally?
Give a Democrat Party free America a chance!
Ireland beig overrun by Europeans
April 1, 2007 - 14:47 ET by Pragmatic-ManThe Irish are being overrun by the Polish, who are taking drastic advantage of the EU rules that allow more open worker immigration between union countries. The Poles will work for dirt, compared to the Irish, and over here the Irish will take less than the US worker. It's musical chairs, minimum-wage-style. This is what you get with a global economy. Much of it is unstoppable in the long-haul, but a regulation of the degradation would be nice. Kinda reminds me of the dotcom bubble. It was great while it lasted, then it really really really sucked!
many disparities
April 1, 2007 - 15:19 ET by tumbler_2007No single source, not even a census, which is pure speculation sometimes, no source can accurately say how many there might be. Not long ago, the cipher of 7 million was invoked everywhere. Later 10, now the moonbats are insisting 20.
It's irrelevant to me. The poor we will always have with us. I can definitely tell you this: illegals are not changing our culture, nor will they destroy our country. They hardly disturb our economy, because they always find employment and most of them are responsible people. When they spend their hard-earned dollar it's our American economy that receives every penny. They also have to accept taxes like any one of us. It's ironic; how they're constantly accused of over-burdening our schools and social programs. A VERY dubious charge, IMHO. Why aren't those Russian illegals accused of that ?
I'd risk a guess. Because they're white people.

glove are off Tumbler!
April 1, 2007 - 15:33 ET by Pragmatic-ManOkay Tumbler, I just gave you a pat on the back and exited my soap-box, to only have you come back with the race card!?!? I would venture a guess, being a wee bit more informed of you now, that you are one of those bigoted racist hispanics I spoke of. But I digress.
You want to know why the hospitals and schools of LA are doomed? Go spend an afternoon in a South Central emergency room and count the Russians. NONE. Now count the illegal mexicans who are using the emergency room services as primary care for FREE! Do I do that? No. Now, see how many of them are using illegal SSN's (all of them) and claiming six exemptions for a non-existant family. Result: no witholdings and an angry IRS agent at the doorstep of some unsuspecting American citizen. Your arguments are baseless in regards to their taxation, and the visual burden on the hospitals and schools is so incredibly OBTUSE that you would have to be a manipulating apologist to not admit it. Ah, have I hit on something? I think I have. So there, you've been outed.

"A manipulating apologist!" My congratulations, in 6 weeks you have tagged and bagged our resident hypocrite. His constant apologetics for the illegal acts of people of his ethnicity is legend on this site. April 1, 2007 - 15:49 ET by Pragmatic-ManThank you, misterbill, and I must ask, is there a size restriction on liberal game? I know there's no limit, and the season is open year-round, but I am always considerate of my environment and would not want to bag game that did not measure up.
