Texas Governor Perry Establishes HPV Vaccination Program for Young Girls
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry [on Feb. 2, 2007] issued an executive order directing the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to adopt rules requiring all girls age 11 and 12 to receive the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine prior to entering sixth grade, effective September 2008.
This is a very strongly worded order considering at the bottom of it the governor has an opt-out that parents may choose. Perhaps it is worded this way for the following reasons.
Girls who are wards-of-the-state do not have loving parents to opt them out.
Not all parents would realize that there is an opt out, with such a bold order.
The order does not state that parents are to be fully informed about the side-affects of the vaccine.
One day the opt-out option could be less-noticeably removed.
This is not an illness caught in schools, but by sexual contact only.
When did Texas government acquire the right to govern over Texan's health-care? The Governor has admitted that he is more concerned with the girls catching the virus once they are married, more so than having sex before marriage. Who is he to feel he is daddy over all of the girls in Texas? He has stepped out of line.
That is cool swell and fine that you support the vaccine, but neither you or the Governor of Texas have the right to push yours or his medical opinions on others, nor do either of you have the right in other girls' (other than your own daughters') health care and sexual health care, at that. Such simply should be off limits.
And no, parents will not all be aware of the opt-out option, nor will girls who are wards of the sate have a loving parent to opt them out. As for the media's reporting of this? I heard about it through another researcher over the phone, not the media. Along with 'where are they on this,' as for how much have they reported on it, 'where are they on this,' as for where is their 'stand' on it? Are they talking pro or con on this issue?
Well that's just peachy-keen Debra.....It's a fact not an opinion that this vaccine prevents cervical cancer that is very deadly and dangerous from having sex, sometimes just once is all it takes.
I know, I have had it. Almost died, I wished they would of had it when I was growing up. I would of been able to have more children as I wanted.
If I had a daughter, she would get it...we cannot control what our kids do at all times...none of us.
Fainting Drop in blood pressure Grand mal seizures
There is so much more to this. Here is a very well researched article on it: http://www.valuesusa.net/caj_kingoftexas.html (The intro is by me and is pretty much what I posted here, so just scroll down past that and right to Cynthia Janak's article.)
What DJSmith conveniently leaves out is that the exceptions cited were in large part found to be pscychosomatic and not physiological causes. Even the most benign vacination is going to have a percentage of patients experiencing mild to severe side-effects. She is a bit of a drama-queen so you will have to take her with a grain of salt.
If you claim to be a conservative, please don't disgrace yourself and conservatism by thinking and arguing like a liberal. Go Rudy!
GaT - thanks for the heads up. Actually typed before I thought. My wife is a pharmacist and my daughter is 5. So the vaccine is not for her yet, and when we get closer to that time I will lean on my wife informed opinion for a decision. All vaccines have some side effects.
My wife and I are parents of a 4-year-old girl. My wife is also a pediatrician, trained at one of the top hospitals in the nation. I naturally defer to her on many of these decisions.
There are many factors to consider. One of the most important is the child may view this as a license to have sex. For older children, this may be a problem, but one that can be corrected with proper education and upbringing (as Debra was saying). For younger children, the vaccine will just be another in the many they receive in their young years and may not even require an explanation, other than they are getting a shot.
As for controlling your childrens' actions through upbringing, love, and faith, it sounds good, but you can't peer over their shoulder forever. At some time, you have to let go and pray that all the work you did as a parent was enough. Even at that, why not give them the vaccine to prevent the disease?
This post does not address the thorny issue of vaccinating all children.
"People everywhere confuse what they read in newspapers with news." - A.J. Liebling
Florida_chad, you wrote, "I will lean on my wife['s] informed opinion for a decision." But, an informed decision is precisely what the governor of Texas has removed from his people. Yes, the threat of HPV causing cervical cance should be published, diseminated in Public Service Announcements on tv. But, it should be the decision of the parents as to whether or not their child receives this vaccine. It should not be the decision of the Governor of a state, or the President of the country, but the decision of each parent, or if the female is over the age of consent, the decision of thw woman.
"A communist is someone who reads Marx. An anti-communist is someone who understands Marx." Ronald Reagan
This drug lowers the blood pressure. It is common for teen girls to already have lower blood pressure. There are more dangers to the drug. People thinking of having their daughters get it, should thoroughly read up on it. And we have to remember, that the drug is new. Also the company that puts it out has had some bad things happen.
And you have the right to get it for your daughters. I am sure you would not like someone saying you could not. Likewise, people like myself, who believe we can control what our daughters do, with a loving up-bringing, a watchful eye, and the word of God on their 'menu,' do not want it pushed on our daughters or future granddaughters. (This is not to say that a child raised this way cannot still mess up, it is just far less likely. And it is our right to not want them to have a false sense of being able to get away with sin. There is far more that a girl can catch that there is no vaccine for. And simply put, many moms do not trust the vaccine.)
Women like myself believe that it is something our daughters/granddaughters should be able to choose for themselves to have if they marry someone who made the mistake of having sexual relations before marriage and caught the virus, hence could give it to their wife after marriage.
So do your opinions on government mandated health care options also include the right to abortions? Or does that not qualify in your opinion as a health care option but just murder?
Does it also extend to other vaccines for other diseases, like Polio and Whooping Cough?
Notice the site says: "GARDASIL helps prevent these diseases" - (It does not say it does prevents, but "helps" prevents.
The vaccine could give a false belief of protection. Here is more that the site says:
Vaccination does not substitute for routine cervical cancer screening. Females who receive GARDASIL should continue cervical cancer screening.
As with all vaccines, GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone who gets the vaccine.
Gardasil will not protect against diseases due to non-vaccine HPV types. There are more than 100 HPV types; GARDASIL helps protect against 4 types (6, 11, 16, and 18). These 4 types have been selected for GARDASIL because they cause approximately 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts.
This vaccine will not protect you against HPV types to which you may have already been exposed.
GARDASIL also will not protect against other diseases that are not caused by HPV.
GARDASIL works best when given before you or your child has any contact with certain types of HPV (i.e., HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18).
--------The following is also said:
It is very important to tell your health care professional if you or your child:is pregnant or is planning to get pregnant. GARDASIL is not recommended for use in pregnant women.
(Hypothetically speaking: If you are thinking your child is sexually active, to the point that you cannot let her grow up and make this choice for herself, then how do you know she won't get pregnant soon after getting the vaccine?)
- It also contains amorphous aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate, sodium chloride, L-histidine, polysorbate 80, sodium borate, and water for injection.
* * *This was taken from an article about "Aluminum and the Prevention of Alzheimer's Disease by Dr. Joseph Mercola.
The cause of AD is unknown. However, environmental influences appear to be important. Aluminum is a widely recognized nerve toxin. It has been found in increased concentrations in all AD affected tissue. Recent scientific studies provide four independent lines of compelling evidence that implicate aluminum's role in the cause of AD.
Abortion is ending the life of another person. Just as it is not okay to bite the fingers of a dentist, simply because they are in your mouth, it is not okay to end the life of a baby just because the baby is inside a woman's womb.
As for vaccines for other diseases, like Polio and Whooping Cough: The reason these are mandatory (with an option out for faith-beliefs) is because they can be caught in schools by other children. These have a reason that pertain to others.
I want more information before I have my girls vaccinated. I will check with their Pediatrician to get my information. He has been their doc since they were born. This vaccine only prevents cervical cancer that is caused by HPV, isn't that correct?
Yes the vaccine only prevents cervical cancer that is caused by HPV--there are other causes of cervical cancer, however. And no vaccine is 100% affective.
I feel for the girl who thinks she is fully protected, who has sex with a man who she knows is infected and catches it.
There will never be a cure or a prevention for the wages of sin. God says that the wages of sin is death. Just as there is no such 'sugar substitute' that will really let us practice gluttony and escape the many illnesses that come from that sin, no vaccine or condom will ever let us practice sexual sin and not reap what that brings with it.
Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Yes it is. The GW believers are tired of discussing this with us dumba$$ conservatives. It is now settled.
I predict that the GW will change some laws to lower emissions. By then the natural cycle of cooling will start. The GW's will claim it was the laws they passed that SAVED us all.
Too late. The cooling is already started. Has been since 2001. If the alarmists aren't able to pass any laws, they will claim credit anyway. Certainly the European socialists who are ruining their economies with Kyoto will claim credit for the halt in warming. Then they will blame us when the warming starts again in 20 or 30 years.
Come visit AIDS-friendly South Africa! Enjoy the 26% unemployment, the 39 murders per 100,000 citizens, the 17% who do not have running water, and the 11% of the population that has AIDS! Of course, SA might be starting to go down the path that Zimbabwe has, and we know how successful Zimbabwe has fared recently.

Not satisfied with having one of the highest murder rates in the US, Philadelphia has now become even more of a laughing-stock, banning trans-fats. But will they drop "Gay and Lesbian Month" from their school calendar?
With the success that F.I.R.E. has had in going after these pointy-headed edu-fascists in recent years, you would think they would have mended their ways by now. It seems many of them just don't get it.
The really distressing thing is that F.I.R.E. and similar organizations are even necessary in a supposedly free country such as ours.

Nice NYT link in regards to the economic situation in Zimbabwe. Nice to see the "New York Times" have a recent link on this. However, they forgot to mention anywhere in the article that Mugabe is a left winger. The left wing MSM likes to label all those who they dislike, so for those who read the article about Zimbabwe and their hyper inflation, just remember Mugabe is a hard core left winger.

Anyhow, as I have said once already, The DNC has reached a new low with the Imam giving opening prayers, giving a Muslim-based spiritual and political prayer at opening ceremonies at a DNC meeting in Washington.
What the %$#@^&* is the DNC thinking ? Are they sending $$'s to the Jihadists, or just giving Moral and Spiritual Support to Terrorists...? Are they sending Osama Bin Hiding some spending money along with Guns and Ammo ?
I will suspect The Dems of ANYTHING now....nothing is out of range for the DNC.
Bassndude...I am shocked !!....I'm going thru the Dictionary looking for words to describe this Imam prayer at a DNC function..
Heck, I'm gonna run for President.
ANYONE can win against these Democrat Idiots. My Dog deserves a vote more than the Liberals. Sedition comes to mind........where the ACLU when you need them ?
JT...the ACLU are the ones that suggested the libs to hire the Imam. Democrat is almost synonymous with sedition these days. They should most all be in prision for sedition.
George Washington is turning over in his Mt. Vernon Grave......IF a Republican can't take this DNC prayer thing and RUN WITH IT, then I'm gonna hafta move to Alaska and wait for Global warming, so I can be as FAR away from Washington as I can possibly get.
Bigtimer.....actually, I just talked to my Son who was Purse Seining in Alaska last year, and he had spoken to his "Captain" up there about the 20 Feet of Snow they have had so far in Valdez. A new Record snowfall...to go along with Upstate New York's 6 feet.
Meanwhile, how come All the Global Warming Guys at the DC Global warming Hearings are from Califonia and Florida ? ? Talk about Conspiracy....
I did see one guy from Colorado on the CNN broadcast, but he probably was there because the Denver Airport was closed because of ICS/SNOW ?
The NEXT Global Warming get together is July 7th, in Brazil......Isn't it Winter in July in Brazil ? ? They should have the meeting in Death Valley in August.
Just a reminder to let everyone know to watch the Pro Bowl this weekend. This is the most exciting football game of the year, and you don't want to miss a minute of it. I always have a huge party, and love watching the commercials. I hope they do a tribute to Don Ho at halftime.

I heard about it through another researcher over the phone, not the media. Along with 'where are they on this,' as for how much have they reported on it, 'where are they on this,' as for where is their 'stand' on it? Are they talking pro or con on this issue?

February 9, 2007 - 14:43 ET by bigtimerWell that's just peachy-keen Debra.....It's a fact not an opinion that this vaccine prevents cervical cancer that is very deadly and dangerous from having sex, sometimes just once is all it takes.
I know, I have had it. Almost died, I wished they would of had it when I was growing up. I would of been able to have more children as I wanted.
If I had a daughter, she would get it...we cannot control what our kids do at all times...none of us.
As much as we would like.

February 9, 2007 - 15:23 ET by florida_chadGaT - thanks for the heads up. Actually typed before I thought. My wife is a pharmacist and my daughter is 5. So the vaccine is not for her yet, and when we get closer to that time I will lean on my wife informed opinion for a decision. All vaccines have some side effects.

February 9, 2007 - 18:53 ET by saw the lightMy wife and I are parents of a 4-year-old girl.

February 9, 2007 - 14:59 ET bybigtimer,
And you have the right to get it for your daughters.

Notice the site says: "GARDASIL helps prevent these diseases" - (It does not say it does prevents, but "helps" prevents.
The vaccine could give a false belief of protection. Here is more that the site says:
--------The following is also said:
It is very important to tell your health care professional if you or your child: is pregnant or is planning to get pregnant.

February 9, 2007 - 22:38 ET byModerate,
Abortion is ending the life of another person.

February 9, 2007 - 22:48 ET bymsh,
Yes the vaccine only prevents cervical cancer that is caused by HPV--there are other causes of cervical cancer, however.
