Brent Bozell, President of the Media Research Center which operates NewsBusters, appeared Thursday night, with Rachel Sklar of the Huffington Post, on FNC’s Hannity & Colmes. Topic: The publication by the New York Times on Monday of a picture of a dying U.S. soldier in Iraq, suffering from a head wound, being carried on a stretcher. Sklar and Bozell had very different answers for how they’d react to a picture/video of a killed love one being posted by the Times, but before where the clip below begins Sklar did state that the Times was in the wrong if their actions contravened an agreement with the military about what embedded journalists could include in their stories.
The Times has agreed to apologize to the family of Staff Sgt. Hector Leija and the photo has been removed from the online posting of the January 29 article, but an accompanying video, which unlike the printed picture does not show the wounded soldier’s face and head -- but does show the events around the shooting and the wounded Leija’s legs -- remains online. The MRC’s TimesWatch posted an excerpt from Thursday’s Houston Chronicle article, "N.Y. Times to apologize for photo, video of soldier: Paper to send family a letter of explanation, regret over using images of the dying Texan."

How totally disgusting that she would try to defend what happened, knowing that she could not defend it with any form of truth, to the point that she could not even answer the very well asked question straight-on.

February 2, 2007 - 16:50 ET by BDDear Rachel Sklar:
Something I have often crossed swords with my former college classmates (I am a recovering journalism graduate) is that they insist that that all military casualties including funerals are newsworthy, but bitterly contest that a Journalist being wounded or his funeral is NOT newsworthy.
When was the last time you saw a photojournalist crash the funeral of a dead journalist from a rival newspaper of network to catch photos of the widow crying?
Have we ever had a broadcast journalist sticking a microphone in the face of a journalists widow asking if a papers bottom line was worth the life of her husband like we regularly see at local funerals of Dead GI's?
Did we have journalists snapping photos of the body of any journalist killed in Iraq? Short answer No.
Soooo.... I guess turn around is not fair play....

February 1, 2007 - 23:51 ET by Airforce_5_OSklar has no clue. Hiding behind the guise of it "honoring" the solider is A COMPLETE AND TOTAL LIE. You do not need the pictures of flag draped coffins or pictures of young men or women dying to understand the sacrifice of war.
Go to the wall in Washington DC and look at the names you can understand that sacrifice. Take the time to go to a local VA hospital and meet the guys there, you will understand sacrifice. Go to Arlington and see those stones, you will understand.
I draw the line on videos and pictures of the dead and dying.
What really chaps my a$$ is the family has not even received this heroes body but they can watch the video of him dying. Fricking unbelievable.

February 2, 2007 - 11:16 ET by EdhenryI put sooooo many inacurate assessments on Rachael, I thought you would all pick up on the sarcasm.
For those of you who didn't, let me be direct. She evaded all questions, blurted leftist talking points and was otherwise a waste of air time, except a person like this is a great reminder of what danger these people present.

February 2, 2007 - 00:23 ET by d1carterAll she had to say was, " I would be very upset if that picture was published". She just could not bring herself to say what most human beings would say. We all know the NYT thinks there are above the law so what makes us think they would uphold any agreements that they have made for embeds.

February 2, 2007 - 01:03 ET by liberal_bug_zapperLike all liberals, she cannot tell the truth. She will always spin everything she says.
How about if she had a brother, sister, father or husband that was shot in Philadelphia and was dying... would she want his dying to be filmed and plastered on the front page of the news???
More US citizens die in Philadelphia every year than in Iraq!!! You idiotic liberals are so stupid and hypocritical that no matter what you say... you are WRONG!!!
Death happens every day. We have more murder in this country than in all Iraq. Baghdad is less violent than New Orleans or Philadelphia.... why aren't the liberals screaming about that?? It's because they are idiotic hypocrites and need to shut the hell up.

February 2, 2007 - 09:35 ET by JimboI saw this last night. In typical liberal fashion, Rachel Sklar refused to answer a simple yes or no question from Sean Hannity. Would she want her brother’s death in Iraq transmitted all over the world? She tried to avoid the question by making ridiculous statements about the legitimacy of the war, etc. Despicable. Kudos to Sean for not letting her off the hook. If these liberals would just come out and say that they don’t support the war or the troops, I would have MORE respect for them since they were being honest. It’s so damn apparent anyway, and their lying just makes matters worse.

February 2, 2007 - 10:20 ET by ucSaw most of this and some other >> Been awhile since we heard this much hot air from dems other than Gore. How does someone get nominated for acting in a documentary but not for years in office with grand position from which he could have effected improvements in conservation much earlier. Why didn't Harvard hire him? Still so relieved that after Clinton years of telling world through "War. Christ." and "Madams All-bright" and Hillary that all women deserve equal rights and representation even including Muslim countries, and the Taliban, I believe, that somehow we didn't get stuck with: Al Qaeda brings too much gore to Gore and coverage of all gore in papers....
He/she that doesn't learn from Clinton History is doomed to repeat it.
Remember Saddam thought he might be able to keep Kuwait.
Is it that we have been attacked and by responding are reminding other sovereign states of our past military assistance to them and others and not just selling SD&R&R that is most responsible for our popularity dropping, if such a drop isn't just a Clinton/Gore fabrication?
