O'Reilly, Goldberg Discuss NB Story on Unions Paying $200K to Ed Schultz

By NB Staff | March 20, 2012 | 18:16

A  A

It doesn't matter if Ed Schultz donated all union speaking fees to charity as he claimed in response to a March 9 NewsBusters post, according to media critic and former CBS reporter Bernie Goldberg.

The pro-union Schultz was still obligated to tell his MSNBC viewers that he received nearly $200,000 from organized labor in 2011, Goldberg told Bill O'Reilly on "The O'Reilly Factor" last night. (video after page break)

Brent Bozell: ‘Bill O’Reilly Is Wrong’

By Brent Bozell | March 16, 2012 | 10:41

A  A

Last night, Bill O’Reilly had some very nice things to say about the Media Research Center and for that I’m grateful.  But he made a major criticism of this organization, and rather than have me on to respond to it, he brought on two other guests to discuss it. So I’ll respond here.

Bill O’Reilly is wrong.

Stephanopoulos Grossly Understates ABC Attention to Limbaugh/Fluke, Claims 'We Didn't Obsess Over This'

By Brad Wilmouth | March 08, 2012 | 07:06

A  A

When FNC's Bill O'Reilly brought up "ABC News's coverage of this Rush Limbaugh/Fluke situation" on Wednesday's The O'Reilly Factor, guest George Stephanopoulos not only misled FNC viewers about ABC coverage by focusing only on how much time his weekday edition of Good Morning America devoted to the story while ignoring other ABC shows like World News and the weekend edition of GMA, but he even substantially understated the amount of time his own weekday GMA show spent on the controversy.

He also failed to mention that he repeatedly brought up the story as he hosted Sunday's This Week on ABC.

Dick Morris: Stephanopoulos Used Same Tactics Against Romney as Clinton White House Did Its Opponents

By Noel Sheppard | February 16, 2012 | 10:47

A  A

Former Clinton adviser Dick Morris took his allegation that ABC's George Stephanopoulos is a "paid Democratic hitman" further on Wednesday saying that the tactics he used on Mitt Romney during the January 7 Republican presidential debate were similar to how the Clinton White House got the media to do its bidding against its opponents.

Speaking with Fox News's Bill O'Reilly, Morris said, "I wonder why ABC has Stephanopoulos on the payroll, and I think making points for the Democratic Party might be part of why" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

ABC, CBS and NBC Ignore Shocking Jump in Government Dependents

By Geoffrey Dickens | February 10, 2012 | 16:57

A  A

According to the Heritage Foundation Barack Obama’s policies, in just two years, have resulted in the number of Americans who rely on a federal program spiking by 23 percent to 67 million. Yet there was no mention of this grim figure on the Big Three network (ABC, CBS and NBC) evening or morning news programs. Since the study was released on Wednesday only Fox News and CNN have mentioned the increase in government dependents was the biggest two year jump since Jimmy Carter was president.  (video after the jump)

Bill O'Reilly Clashes With WashPost Writer on MSNBC's Ban of 'Extremist' Pat Buchanan

By Tim Graham | January 28, 2012 | 10:30

A  A

On The O'Reilly Factor on Thursday night, Bill O'Reilly took on MSNBC's apparent ban on their former contributor Pat Buchanan in obedience to left-wing lobbies like Color of Change, who wanted him removed form the airwaves. Cathy Areu, a contributor to The Washington Post Magazine, argued Buchanan was a "white extremist" and "white supremacist" who "absolutely" should be banned and fired.

O'Reilly shot back: "Okay, so if the litmus test is you fire extremists, MSNBC would have nobody on. Nobody on." Areu attempted to nudge O'Reilly about his friendly relationship with Rev. Al Sharpton. O'Reilly replied: "Wait, wait, so Pat Buchanan in an extremist, but Al Sharpton is not?"

As he appeared on Friday's The O'Reilly Factor, FNC's Geraldo Rivera complained that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney never mentions that his father, George Romney, was born in Mexico while campaigning as the "most virulent anti-illegal immigration person ever," and ended up calling the former Massachusetts governor a "hypocrite." Society of Professional Journalists Wants to Avoid Term 'Illegal Immigrants'

By Paul Wilson | January 10, 2012 | 21:27

A  A

A group that calls itself "The nation's most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior" sounds important, and would probably be a stickler for accuracy among its members and in its own affairs, wouldn't it?

Not the Society of Professional Journalists. SPJ recently institutionalized political correctness, asserting that undocumented workers should not be tagged with the so-called offensive term "illegal."

Ben Stein Argues Against Claims Middle Class Hurt by the Wealthy

By Brad Wilmouth | December 22, 2011 | 09:48

A  A

Supposedly right-leaning actor, economist and former Nixon speech writer Ben Stein of late has become famous for advocating for higher taxes on the wealthy, but on Wednesday's The O'Reilly Factor on FNC, Stein was finally seen arguing from a conservative point of view again as he debated David Callahan of the left-wing group DEMOS, and argued that taxation rates on the wealthy are not to blame for the economic problems of the middle class.

The War on the War on Christmas

By Erin R. Brown | December 13, 2011 | 14:48

A  A

Every year, millions of Christians that celebrate the birth of their Savior are faced with the attacks on Christmas - "holiday trees," atheist ad campaigns and even outright blasphemy in mocking nativity scenes. To Christians and conservatives, the evidence is overwhelming. But in recent years, the left and the mainstream media have actively denied that the war even exists.

From the hard left gang of current and former MSNBC personalities to CNN hosts to Huffington Post writers, the watch words have been "fake" and "phony" and "ridiculous." With varying degrees ire, they've blamed Fox News and the "Christian right" for the "manufactured outrage" at attacks on Christmas.

By Noel Sheppard | December 10, 2011 | 10:51

Fox News's Bill O'Reilly and Comedy Central's Jon Stewart are once again locked in a battle of wits.

Having been told by O'Reilly that he was "going to hell" for remarks he made about the war on Christmas, Stewart said Thursday, "I make my living watching Fox News eight hours a day. I'm already in hell! Boom! Boom! Your move, O'Reilly."

This led The Factor host to marvelously respond Friday, "All right, here's my move. How can you watch eight hours of Fox News every day and still be a pinhead?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

O'Reilly and Goldberg Agree With NewsBusters Report on CNN's Coverage of Obama's Scandals vs. Cain's

By Noel Sheppard | November 07, 2011 | 23:56

A  A

On Saturday, NewsBusters reported that CNN in the six days after Politico's hit piece on Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was published did more stories on that subject than it did on Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's connections to domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, convicted real estate developer Tony Rezko, and America-hating Rev. Jeremiah Wright combined.

On Fox News Monday, Bill O'Reilly agreed with our analysis saying, "This is disturbing," as did guest Bernie Goldberg who explained, "The reason is fairly obvious and fairly simple. They like Barack Obama and his politics and they don't like Herman Cain and his politics" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

As NewsBusters has been reporting, the coverage of the Occupy Wall Street movement has been nothing less than atrocious.

Appearing on Fox News's the O'Reilly Factor Monday, political analyst Bernie Goldberg said it's because there are "people that sell Slurpees and cigarettes to insomniacs at 7-Eleven on the overnight shift who have more introspection than journalists who cover important events in our country" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

NBC's Lauer to O'Reilly: Did Obama 'Erase' Idea of GOP Being Tougher on National Security?

By Kyle Drennen | October 25, 2011 | 10:30

A  A

Updated [3:18 ET]: Video added

During an interview with Fox News's Bill O'Reilly on Tuesday's NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer cited recent foreign policy successes for President Obama and wondered: "Republicans have run on a perception that they are tougher on national security, that they're the ones who can keep Americans safe....has Barack Obama done a lot to erase that perception?" [Audio available here]

The O'Reilly Factor host replied: "I mean, it's all about the economy. I don't think foreign affairs is going to be much next year, although Iran is a wild card. If Iran causes trouble in Iraq because the President, you know, is withdrawing all of the troops at the end of the year, that could become a campaign issue." Lauer somehow twisted that response into this: "But right now, what you're saying is Republicans have no right to claim the mantle of 'We are the party that's tough on national security'?" Goldberg: If They Slobber Over Obama in '12 Like They Did in '08 'Media and the President Would Have to Get a Room'

By Noel Sheppard | October 25, 2011 | 00:13

Is it possible for the press to gush and fawn over Barack Obama during this upcoming presidential campaign as much as they did in 2008?

Political analyst Bernie Goldberg, appearing on Fox News's O'Reilly Factor Monday, didn't think so claiming instead, "If they slobber all over him as much this time as they did last time, the media and the President would have to get a room" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CBS Reporter to O'Reilly: More to Come on 'Fast and Furious'

By Matthew Balan | October 07, 2011 | 18:25

A  A

CBS's Sharyl Attkisson, the only Big Three network reporter who's been regularly covering the "Fast and Furious" controversy, appeared on Thursday's O'Reilly Factor, throwing cold water on an earlier report that she was "unavailable" for further interviews on the story. Attkisson emphasized that there was a lot more to the issue than what has already reported, but "we need to get more confirmation."

The Fox News host pressed the journalist on her revelation from Tuesday's Laura Ingraham Show, that associate White House communications director Eric Schultz "screamed and cussed" at her for her reporting on the controversy. Attkisson would only state that "the conversation, as you reported it, was accurate," and later added that "the point is really not the content of that. The point is, story-wise, it seems significant and important how people handle questions, and how they react when you ask questions" [video clips available below the jump]
