Breaking News: People Like the Government Giving Them Other People’s Money

By Seton Motley | December 04, 2012 | 09:40

To paraphrase the estimable Yogi Berra - it’s like deja vu all over, and over, and over, and over again.

The Jurassic Press media is enraptured with a certain story.

Al Gore's Current TV May Be Bought By Texas Startup Looking To Make It More Centrist

By Noel Sheppard | December 01, 2012 | 18:24

A  A

NewsBusters reported in October that Al Gore's struggling television network Current was up for sale.

An Austin, Texas, startup named SocialGood.tv came out of hiding this week and announced  that it's raising money to make a bid wanting to move the station from its "far-left talking points" and instead "focusing the programming in a centrist line."

Current TV's Fugelsang: NewsBusters Is 'Crack and Porn For the Human Id'

By Tim Graham | November 24, 2012 | 20:54

A  A

On Tuesday’s edition of the Bill Press radio show, fill-in host John Fugelsang (another “star” of Current TV) celebrated being attacked on NewsBusters for five minutes. “It’s like crack and porn for the human id...It’s like your id gets crack and porn at the same time, and the darkest part of your nature can run free, thanks to NewsBusters.”

On Monday, NB’s Ken Shepherd reported that Fugelsang wanted some respect for democratically-elected terrorist groups who like to drop missiles on Israeli civilians: “Hamas for all of their flaws are the only organization they've got there in Palestine right now, until the next Gandhi comes from there.” Merely quoting Fugelsang accurately is apparently pornography on drugs, and Fugelsang inaccurately claimed Ken called him a terrorist: [ video below the page break ]

Bill Press Weighs in on Petraeus Resignation: 'Grow Up America'

By Ryan Robertson | November 12, 2012 | 19:04

A  A

On everyone's mind this morning was the resignation of CIA Deputy Director David Petraeus on Friday. Liberal radio talk show host Bill Press did his best to catch his listeners up on the details of the scandal, but then went on a rant asking why it's even an issue.

At no point in his defense of the former Army general and CIA chief did Press bring up the impending hearing concerning Libya on Capitol Hill that Petraeus was scheduled to appear before, nor did he think an FBI investigation was necessary -- despite the confidentiality agreement Petraeus submitted to before accepting one of the highest, if not the highest-level security clearance job there is in the federal government [ video below, MP3 audio here ]:

Joy Behar Compares Romney to 'Horny Speed Dater'

By Ryan Robertson | November 06, 2012 | 18:25

A  A

Obscure cable 'news' network Current TV's aptly named show, Say Anything with Joy Behar concluded an episode on Monday night by putting forth a different perspective on Mitt Romney that was of course related to all the worn-out liberal judgments of him.

Behar justified her endorsement of President Obama's re-election by comparing his Republican challenger to a "horny guy doing speed dating." You know the type, a man who is willing to "say anything to close the deal" and just wants to get in the pants of every girl he meets. But in this case, it's the collective pants of America. Media's Heavy-Handed Liberals Race to Exploit Hurricane Tragedy

By Rich Noyes | October 30, 2012 | 16:02

A  A

Like ambulance-chasing lawyers, the heavy-handed liberal activists who populate much of the media raced to exploit Hurricane Sandy even as the storm was lashing the East Coast last night, citing it as proof of “climate change” and a reason to oppose Mitt Romney.

Yesterday afternoon, MSNBC’s Martin Bashir started a panel discussion by claiming that “people are wondering today if the current hurricane has anything to do with global change, climate change, global warming,” and then mentioned the “right-wing nut jobs” supporting Romney.

Actor Jay Thomas: ‘Worried’ That ‘Medieval...Idiot White Guys’ Romney and Ryan Might Win

By Brent Baker | October 28, 2012 | 02:52

A  A

A mix of hatred and despair on display Friday night from a member of Barack Obama’s core constituency: the Hollywood Left. On something called John Fugelsang: So That Happened, which runs weekly on Current, actor/radio host Jay Thomas combined fret and an insult in decrying the Republican ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan: “I can’t believe we’re talking the 21st century and these two white idiots are running for something.”

Saying “these are the most un-modern people I’ve ever seen. They’re medieval, almost” because “they don’t believe in abortion,” Thomas despaired: “I’m really worried, and I feel right now that Mitt Romney has a really good chance of winning the election.”

Gore's Current TV Up For Sale

By Noel Sheppard | October 26, 2012 | 01:32

Al Gore's Current TV is up for sale.

According to the New York Post, there has been enough interest in the television channel nobody watches let alone heard of that CEO Joel Hyatt has decided to shop around for offers.

“Current has been approached many times by media companies interested in acquiring our company,” Hyatt told the Post.

Al Gore Blames 'High Altitude' in Denver for the President's Poor Debate Performance

By Ryan Robertson | October 04, 2012 | 15:54

A  A

Something odd happened to the liberal media after the first presidential debate on Wednesday. They couldn't for the life of them put any postive spin on the president's lackluster performance. There was nothing they could say that could take away from Mitt Romney's clear victory, but then came the excuses. Some blamed Jim Lehrer for his inability to moderate properly, others cited what must've been an incumbent debate curse, there was even some mention of Obama's reluctance to come across as an angry black man.

But the dopiest analysis by far was from former Vice President Al Gore, on his Current TV network -- think an even farther left version of MSNBC with fewer viewers -- who blamed altitude sickness on Obama's poor performance: [ video below after page break ]

MSNBC Asks Disgraced Dan Rather If Obama Video Smacks of GOP 'Desperation'

By Tim Graham | October 03, 2012 | 17:31

A  A

On Wednesday’s Jansing & Co., MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing tried to establish that there is one question “we can all anticipate and not be surprised by,” and that is a question to Mitt Romney about the 47 percent comments, because it had a “very negative effect” on voters. Jim Lehrer must repeat Obama's TV ads in a question?

But what about the “other race speech” video of Obama from 2007? In perfect formation with the DNC line, Jansing asked disgraced CBS anchor Dan Rather if that smacked of Republican desperation: [ video below the break, audio here ]

Bravo's Andy Cohen: I'd Marry Paul Ryan, 'Hate-Shag' Rick Santorum and Kill Rush Limbaugh

By Noel Sheppard | October 02, 2012 | 16:42

Andy Cohen plays a ridiculous game on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live called "Marry, Shag, or Kill" in which he gives three names to his guests, and they have to choose who they'd marry, shag, and kill.

On Current TV's Say Anything Monday, host Joy Behar played this game with Cohen with the subjects being conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh, Republican presidential nominee Paul Ryan, and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary).

Bozell Column: Liberals On The Lying Frequency

By Brent Bozell | August 25, 2012 | 08:24

A  A

As easy as it might be to forget them in the cobwebs of the AM radio dial, the liberal pretenders to the Rush Limbaugh throne are still broadcasting, and they're often utterly, shamelessly ridiculous. Case in point: Even Al Sharpton lamely used his radio show to defend Joe Biden's anti-Republican "they want to put y'all in chains" race baiting in front of a black audience.

Another case in point: Liberal radio hosts adore Harry Reid for making utterly unsubstantiated ugly charges that Mitt Romney evaded taxes for a decade. Bill Press has routinely declared his love for the tactic — even on CNN, where someone might have noticed. On "Reliable Sources," Press taunted the journalists who might want to play by the rules of evidence.

Al Gore: Current TV Convention Cub Reporter

By P.J. Gladnick | August 09, 2012 | 18:46

A  A

Al Gore has had quite a varied career since coming within 537 pregnant chads of the presidency in 2000. He has sat on the board of directors of Apple, shilled carbon credit indulgences to guilty liberals, and starred in "An Inconvenient Truth" documentary.  There is even a wild rumor that Gore has written movie reviews.  However the latest news about Al Gore concerns his Current TV which is like a public access channel for has-been politicians. According to this story, Gore has consulted his inner chakra and has decided to become a convention reporter. This has resulted in some interesting media reactions to this news but the funniest is probably this wry observation from Jonah Goldberg of National Review who tweeted:

If Al Gore's career trajectory keeps up he'll be a blogger-intern at Media Matters by the end of the decade.

Howard Kurtz Exposes Bill Press: 'That's a Democratic Talking Point'

By Noel Sheppard | August 05, 2012 | 16:22

Radio and Current TV host Bill Press got thoroughly exposed on CNN Sunday as a shill for President Obama.

That's a Democratic talking point" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Media Help Obama Make Business Success Bane of Romney’s Campaign

By Julia A. Seymour | July 23, 2012 | 10:58

A  A

The left, including the Obama administration and some in the media, are making anti-capitalist attacks on opponent Mitt Romney’s business career the latest tactic. And the gloves are off.

On July 12, Obama’s deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter went on the offensive charging Romney could be a criminal: “Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and his own signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony. Or, he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people to avoid responsibility for some of the consequences of his investments,” she said according to Politico.

Joy Behar on Gay Republican Group GOProud Endorsing Romney: Maybe They're 'Just Attracted to His Sons'

Stephanie Miller Show Decries Media Coverage of Edwards Trial: 'They're Scared of Fox News'

By Tim Graham | June 15, 2012 | 05:15

A  A

On Wednesday's edition of The Stephanie Miller show on "progressive" radio and Current TV, Miller and her impressionist sidekick Jim Ward expressed "how frustrating the mainstream media can be" for treating the John Edwards mistress-payments trial as a serious, newsworthy matter instead of just  dismissing the whole thing as a "lousy case."

But then it got funnier when they said the media failed on the Edwards trial because, as Ward said, "They're afraid of Fox News." Yes, we're sure the liberal media were shaking in their fancy boots:

Bozell Presses Current TV Chairman Al Gore to 'Repudiate' Employee Bill Press's Slam of National Anthem

Update: A similar letter was sent to Comcast Chairman Brian L. Roberts | Editor's Note: What follows is NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell's June 13 open letter to Current TV chairman Al Gore.

The Star-Spangled Banner evokes feelings of pride and patriotism in most Americans. But not in Bill Press, who slurred our National Anthem as an "abomination."

The Current TV host hates the National Anthem so much that he is "embarrassed" every time he hears it.

Al Gore's Current TV is quickly becoming the place where liberal commentators that fail go where they truly belong - somewhere virtually no one will ever see them.

In a press release published by TVNewser, it was revealed the next addition to Gore's deliciously irrelevant network is Joy Behar who just in November was canned by HLN for horrid ratings:

'Karl Rove Indictment' Shuster Predicts Same for Scott Walker

By P.J. Gladnick | June 05, 2012 | 18:00

David Shuster is predicting the imminent indictment of Karl Rove.

Oops!

That was Shuster as an MSNBC host back in 2006. In his current incarnation on the no-rated Current TV he is predicting the possible indictment of Wisconsin governor Scott Walker. Despite making himself a laughingstock six years ago by projecting visions of Karl Rove being frogwalked across the White House lawn, Shuster now seems intent on delivering an encore performance.

Current TV Host Gavin Newsom Bored by His Other Job

By P.J. Gladnick | May 30, 2012 | 09:39

A  A

Cue up the violin strings. A sad tragedy is being played out in California. The Sacramento Bee has a story about how the Lieutenant Governor of that state, Gavin Newsom, must endure the unendurable as described in the article's headline: "Gavin Newsom breaks boredom in Sacramento with his own TV show."

Yes, even though the Current TV ratings are in the toilet and might not even be carried on cable in the future, it's show business! Unfortunately, along with the "glamor" of showbiz, poor Newsom must endure the utter boredom of his, "ugh," Lt. Governor's job which requires him to suffer the torture of spending one day per week in "dull" Sacramento.

NBC's 'Today' Show Mocks Keith Olbermann

By Kyle Drennen | April 06, 2012 | 15:09

A  A

On Friday's NBC Today, co-host Matt Lauer confirmed that he had renewed his contract with network, prompting applause from his fellow hosts and this zinger from weatherman Al Roker about Lauer's potential replacement: "Yeah, because it was either you or Keith Olbermann." The entire studio erupted in laughter. [Listen to the audio or watch the video after the jump]

Lauer quipped in response: "You made out alright, didn't you?" Ann Curry referred to Olbermann suing his former employer, Current TV: "Yeah, and our bosses don't want to be sued." A relieved Roker proclaimed "Thank goodness!" and rounded out the mocking of the left-wing bomb-thrower by doing his best Olbermann impression: "You're the worst person in the world!"

Poor Ratings Get Current TV Dumped in the UK, CEO Whines About Murdoch Censorship

By Tim Graham | January 12, 2012 | 13:07

A  A

Current TV isn’t just largely unwatched in America. Mimi Turner at The Hollywood Reporter notes its horrible ratings in the United Kingdom are causing BSkyB to drop them. “Co-founder and CEO Joel Hyatt has launched an astonishing attack on the Rupert Murdoch-backed pay TV platform, accusing it of shutting down the channel in an act politically motivated by News Corporation.” It sounded just like Al Gore when Current TV got the ax in Italy.

“Sky is shutting down an intelligent alternative to mass market programming,” said Joel Hyatt, CEO of Current Media. In Britain, the land of the liberal BBC and just recently, PBS UK? Hyatt continued his Murdoch-bashing: “By doing so, Sky is once again discriminating in favor of the networks it owns and the points of view News Corporation agrees with.”

Keith Olbermann Gets Rejected by Another Employer?

By Matthew Sheffield | December 30, 2011 | 11:50

A  A

As surely as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, it seemed inevitable that moonbat cable news personality Keith Olbermann would soon do something to sour his relationship with his current employer, obscure cable channel Current TV. After all, he still remains the same man who famously spent days in the bathroom in fits of rage rather than report for work.

We don't know what that something was, but it appears that the former ESPN-MSNBC-Fox Sports-MSNBC anchor has managed to commit it for, as noted by New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter, Olbermann does not appear to be part of the channel's lineup to cover the Iowa caucuses or the New Hampshire primary election. Instead, viewers will be treated to performances by Current's usual stable of failed politicians and MSNBC rejects:

Keith Olbermann: Too Far Left for Gore's Current TV?

By Lachlan Markay | February 22, 2011 | 19:50

Just how far left is MSNBC? According to the New York Post, Keith Olbermann's new employer, Current TV, suggested he "veer a little to the middle politically."

That's right: MSNBC's former prime time star was too far left for the writers and producers at Al Gore's television network. Says a lot about the true blue cable channel, doesn't it?

As Current TV Tops List of Least Watched Cable Channels, Reporter Claims 'Ratings Savior' Olbermann to the Rescue

By Kyle Drennen | February 16, 2011 | 14:30

A  A

In Tuesday's Kansas City Star, reporter Aaron Barnhart revealed that Current TV, the cable channel launched in 2005 by Al Gore, would be the least missed, only managing to be viewed by 18,000 households in the fourth quarter of 2010. Also on the list of "Cable's Least Wanted" were the DIY network, ESPN Classic, Fox Soccer Channel, Logo, and Sleuth.

Despite such abysmal ratings for Current, Barnhart argued that the addition of former MSNBC Countdown host Keith Olbermann to the channel would turn things around: "The good news for Current is that it won’t be counting its audience in the high five figures, at least not when Olbermann is on the air." He later remarked: "Unlike Current, the rest of Cable’s Least Wanted don’t have a ratings savior waiting in the wings."
