Real Time

Did you know that white men are good for little more than making crystal meth? And that Americans are proudly belligerent and ignorant? At least according to Wonkette founder Ana Marie Cox, as expressed Friday night on "Real Time with Bill Maher" with her formulaic snark.

Cox was a guest on the show, along with GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, actor Rob Lowe and left-wing journalist Matt Taibbi, and talking with them about drug decriminalization when she made the first of two gratuitous swipes, first at American men of pale skin hue, then at Americans in general. What a relief to learn that race is no longer "a Republican or a Democrat issue," at least according to black liberal comedian W. Kamau Bell, one of the guests on Bill Maher's HBO show Friday night.

More accurately, race is no longer a partisan issue after first lady Michelle Obama is quoted saying something awkwardly similar to remarks from GOP congressman Paul Ryan that predictably resulted in liberals denouncing Ryan as racist. (Video after the jump)

Bill Maher's weekly show on HBO is occasionally a pleasure to watch, at least to this conservative, because he's that rare liberal willing to turn sacred cows on the left into hamburger.

Last month, for example, he challenged MSNBC's Rachel Maddow for her network's obsessive with the Bridgegate scandal she clearly hopes will sideline New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's prospects in 2016. A week earlier, Maher derided liberals from the 1930s for their love of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin -- while Maher's predominantly left-leaning audience sat on their hands in response. Comedian Bill Maher is no stranger to making outrageous and offensive comments, usually directed at conservatives. His weekly HBO program “Real Time with Bill Maher” is an opportunity for the devout atheist and liberal to spew his anti-conservative hate, yet when a major television network profiles his comedy routine, his controversial style is ignored.

NBC’s Harry Smith sat down with Maher for an interview, which aired during the March 16th “Meet the Press” and the NBC reporter treated the comedian to a friendly puff interview without ever bringing up his tasteless comedy routine. Moderator David Gregory hyped the interview and observed how Maher has “been thinking about how dysfunctional politics has become in the country and he’s been dishing on both parties as he takes his message to red state America.” [See video below.]

You know that MSNBC has leaned too far forward into abject hackery masquerading as journalism when it gets slammed by Bill Maher, otherwise one of its most fervent defenders.

On his HBO show Friday night, Maher used the occasion of MSNBC's Rachel Maddow appearing as one of his guests to tell Maddow that her network's obsession with the Bridgegate scandal has become too much even for him. Maddow, not surprisingly, defended the coverage and, equally unsurprising, made a dishonest analogy in the process. (Video after the jump)

One way the MSNBC cable channel can tell it's in trouble is when liberal comedian Bill Maher -- host of the Friday night HBO program Real Time who almost got his own show on the "Lean Forward" network -- posts a tweet accusing you of “turning into Fox News” and stating that the channel has “stopped leaning forward” since “Bridgegate has become your Benghazi.”

“I'm no good at being noble,” the self-proclaimed “passionate flaming liberal” continued in his rant entitled “MSNBC-YA,” but “it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little lanes of traffic don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.”

On his latest "Real Time with Bill Maher" show on HBO over the weekend, Bill Maher went where no comedian wants to find himself -- the dead zone of awkward silence from an audience.

Maher and his guests were talking about textbook bad hire/turncoat Edward Snowden seeking asylum in Russia and a WikiLeaks tweet praising this allegedly "democratic country" under Putin. (Video after the jump)

Here’s something you don’t see every day: Bill Maher poking fun at Barack Obama.

On his first Real Time show of the year, the HBO host said of the scandal currently embattling Governor Chris Christie (R-N.J.), “They basically turned the bridge into the ObamaCare website” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

It appears that no matter what disgusting things Bill Maher says about conservatives - especially conservative women! - HBO is going to continue to reward him.

On Wednesday, the cable network announced that it was renewing Real Time with Bill Maher for a 13th season (press release via TV By The Numbers):

Since the left-wing nonsense coming out of Hollywood can be just as obnoxious as anything you’d find on MSNBC, the MRC’s “Best Notable Quotables of 2013” once again includes our annual Barbra Streisand Political IQ Award for Celebrity Vapidity.

Past winners of this prestigious prize include: actress Jessica Lange in 2002 (“I despise him [George W. Bush]. I despise his administration and everything they stand for.”); The View’s Rosie O'Donnell in 2007 (“I just want to say something: 655,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. Who are the terrorists?”); and actor/director Rob Reiner in 2010 (“My fear is that the Tea Party gets a charismatic leader, because all they’re selling is fear and anger and that’s all Hitler sold.”)

As NewsBusters previously reported, HBO's Real Time this past Friday once again featured some truly disgusting attacks on the Pope, priests, and the Catholic Church. This has led the Catholic League to formally request HBO and Time Warner fire host Bill Maher and cancel the show.

On Tuesday, after Newsmax TV's Steve Malzberg played a clip of Maher and guest Dan Savage from Friday's program to Catholic League president Bill Donohue, Donohue responded (video follows with transcript and commentary):

“JFK was far from perfect, but he was a true wit and a sex machine and he knew how to wear a pair of shades. Reagan was an amiable square in a cowboy hat who had sex with a woman he called ‘Mommy.’”

So said HBO’s Real Time host Bill Maher Friday in a lengthy segment praising John F. Kennedy while trashing Ronald Reagan (video follows with commentary):
