On Friday night, HBO’s Bill Maher resoundingly mocked the Democratic Party’s electoral defeat during this year’s midterm election but made sure to attack the Republican Party as being motivated by race. During a panel discussion on Real Time w/ Bill Maher, Maher proclaimed that “the issue in this election was still the first black president. I really do. I think it was still resentment about his winning re-election and it was just those people who came out to vote, wanted to prove to the rest of America that they were right all along about how much Obama sucks.”
Monday night on HBO viewers heard one of their stars call Rush Limbaugh an “idiot” and charge “he’s a liar and a hatemonger – makes me want to puke.” But it wasn’t Bill Maher. It was actress Frances McDormand in the second half of the pay network’s two-night Olive Kitteridge mini-series about the later years of life of a woman living in a coastal Maine town.
HBO Real Time host Bill Maher, a self-proclaimed atheist, is often viewed as controversial among conservatives. Recently, however, it’s not conservatives who are up in arms over Maher’s latest comments. Instead, it's one of the most liberal colleges in the country – the University of California, Berkeley.
Maher is expected to speak at a graduation ceremony at Berkeley in December. It is this speaking engagement that has many students protesting Maher’s planned speech because of his “racist and bigoted” views on the Muslim faith.
The Washington Post's Style section occasionally publishes the online Q&As with its TV critic Hank Stuever...even when they get testy.
On Friday, someone lauding the "excellent" work of John Oliver on HBO mocking the Miss America pageant. Stuever's apparently heard this line too much among liberals, and insisted that Oliver (and Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert) get praise for "reporting" things that they could easily find in a newspaper or even an old Spy magazine (which stopped publishing in 1998, the Year of Lewinsky):
Okay, maybe not so much falling down funny as amusing. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver put HBO’s producers to work tracking down video of TV newscasters and guests avoiding certain words and only referring to, for example, “the T word.”
Few people are as beloved by the liberal media as HBO “Girls” creator Lena Dunham, the overpraised Ronan Farrow of feminism. Wednesday’s Arts section of The New York Times began with a gushing book review by Michiko Kakutani.
The headline was “Hannah’s Self-Aware Alter Ego.” The first line was “Smart, funny women writers love to dispense advice.”
HBO's Bill Maher clashed with Charlie Rose on the veteran host's PBS show on Tuesday over the atheist's outspoken views on Islam. Maher underlined the "illiberal beliefs that are held by vast numbers of Muslim people." Rose countered with a left-wing talking point: "Vast number of Christians, too." The comedian shot back, "No, no. That's not true – not true. Vast numbers of Christians do not believe that if you leave the Christian religion, you should be killed for it."
During an interview with Joel Keller that was posted Tuesday on the Parade magazine website, “libertarian” comedian Bill Maher hammered the liberal MSNBC cable channel for having “just way too much conformity” and a mantra of “never say anything that will upset our own audience.”
“I’m usually in agreement with what they say over there,” the host of the Friday evening Real Time with Bill Maher HBO series stated. “But I do think there is just too much cheering for your own team, sometimes without being very informed about the issue itself.”
Bill Maher is known for his pathological, frothing attacks on all things conservative. However, on the August 1 edition of Real Time With Bill Maher, the HBO host took a controversial stance for a liberal: he defended Israel. When his Iranian-American guest Reza Aslan argued that “Amnesty International...have found no evidence whatsoever of any kind of human shield being used,” Maher interrupted to state “It's a war. It's a war that Hamas started.”
The left-wing comedian continued, claiming that “somehow when Israel reacts to this, they have to do everything in a way that doesn't kill any civilians. People die in wars.” Maher repeated his sentiment from July 20, that “if the situation was reversed, Hamas would kill every single person in Israel. The reason that's not happening is because they can't. Because they can't doesn't make them good, it makes them weak.” [See video below. Click here for MP3 audio]

HBO certainly isn’t subtle in their disdain for conservatives. Last week, HBO’s “True Blood” mocked conservatives at a fictional Ted Cruz fundraiser, as “Republic**ts” and this weekend’s cast panel at Comic-Con brought up the episode again.
The actress who uttered the derogatory term, Kristin Bauer van Straten was asked about the conservative reaction to the episode and her response was less than sympathetic.

The Democrat party is the pro-woman party right? Well on Sunday night’s episode of HBO's "True Blood," the left-leaning characters inadvertently reveal their hateful attitudes towards women, all the while mocking conservatives.
In the July 20 episode, vampires Eric and Pam are looking for the parents of their enemy, who happen to be conservative. To do this, they must go incognito at a Ted Cruz fundraiser held, (where else?) at the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas. Beforehand, the vampires are warned “They only let in a**holes.”
John Oliver used the Sunday July 20 edition of HBO’s Last Week Tonight as a platform to condemn the privatization of the American prison system. Rather than describing both sides of the issue, Oliver told horror stories from prisons that outsource healthcare and food provision without mentioning similar stories from publicly run prisons. According to Oliver, the verdict is straightforward: “private prisons are bad.”
The British comedian spent 18 of his 30 minute show decrying the “drug laws that do seem to be a little draconian, and a lot racist,” as well as the “dismantling of our mental health system” that lead to America having “more prisoners at the moment than China.” Of course, he failed to mention that the Chinese government usually chooses the death penalty over imprisonment, and according to CNN, “executed more people than any other country last year.” [See video below.
