Scarborough Lashes Out at Cain and Bachmann: They Don't Understand 'Basic Policy'

By Scott Whitlock | October 18, 2011 | 12:21

A  A

According to MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, Herman Cain and Michele Bachmann"don't even understand basic policy, basic economics, basic foreign policy." The Morning Joe anchor on Tuesday expounded on a Politico op-ed in which he denounced a number of the GOP presidential candidates as "clownish characters."

When MSNBC executives deny their network is dominated solely by liberals, they often reference Scarborough. However, the former Republican Congressman has been aggressively negative towards the GOP field. On Tuesday's show, he mournfully wondered, "What's wrong with a political party that Michele Bachmann takes the lead and Herman Cain takes the lead?" [MP3 audio here. See video below.]

Scarborough: Obama Can't Side With Protesters - 'He Got More Money From Wall Street Than Any Candidate' in History

By Noel Sheppard | October 18, 2011 | 10:20

A  A

While media gush and fawn over the Occupy Wall Street protests wondering how President Obama can take advantage of the sentiments being expressed, they're conveniently ignoring a crucial detail.

As MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said on Tuesday's Morning Joe, "He got more money from Wall Street than any candidate in the history of U.S. politics" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Carter Advisor: Lists of Rich People Should be Published to Force Money 'Back to Society'

By Noel Sheppard | October 17, 2011 | 11:20

A  A

In the wake of the Occupy Wall Street protests, former Jimmy Carter National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski said Monday that lists of citizens "who make largely through speculation enormous amounts of money" should be created and made public in order to "pressure some of those people to give some of it back, back to society."

"I think public disclosure by the mass media could go a long way towards a social awakening that's responsible and constructive in its effects," Brzezinski told the crew at MSNBC's "Morning Joe" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Scarborough on Rome Riots: Occupy Wall Street 'Creating New Jobs' By Forcing Rebuilding of Damaged Property

By Noel Sheppard | October 17, 2011 | 09:02

A  A

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough marvelously mocked the Occupy Wall Street movement Monday by joking about how the destruction of private property during this weekend's riots in Rome will actually create jobs.

"That will help with the construction industry in Italy," kidded Scarborough as pictures of the riots played on the screen. "You have to rebuild Rome because people burned it down" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Scarborough and Brzezinski Rip Donny Deutsch for Saying There's 'More Hate' in Tea Party Than Occupy Wall Street

By Noel Sheppard | October 14, 2011 | 11:39

A  A

There was a rather surprising moment on MSNBC's Morning Joe Friday.

When mega-rich guest Donny Deutsch said there's "more hate involved" in the Tea Party than the Occupy Wall Street movement, he was immediately jumped on by hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for the absurdity (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Politico's Allen: 'Very Ruthless' Romney Campaign 'Roped In' Christie

By Mark Finkelstein | October 12, 2011 | 07:45

A  A

Mike Allen of Politico has provided a text-book illustration of how the liberal media can spin a positive into a negative for a Republican.  Instead of focusing on the political pluses of Chris Christie's endorsement of Mitt Romney, Allen has twisted the event into a negative that reveals the "very ruthless" efficiency of the Romney campaign.  Moreover, if there's a politician around today who thinks for himself, it's Christie.  Yet Allen alleges that rather than making a reasoned decision, Christie was "roped" into endorsing Romney.

Allen made his sour-grape remarks on today's Morning Joe.  Video after the jump.

Howard Dean: Tea Party 'Not Playing With Full Deck'

By Mark Finkelstein | October 05, 2011 | 07:56

A  A

Bulletin from the Bureau of Pot-Meet-Kettle: Howard Dean has declared that Tea Party Americans "are not playing with a full deck."  This not merely from the man who made The Scream famous, but who in the very same segment today had a manic tongue-sticking-out moment [see screen grab] that might have scared pets and small children.

Dean also managed to get into a spirited fight with Michael Steele over Obama's 2012 prospects.  Dean claims to see an Obama transformed, a candidate "on fire" who is on course to win.  Steele soberly poured the water of the 9.1% unemployment rate on Obama's fire.  Video after the jump.

Solyndra Defense Reveals Obama's Socialist Mindset: If Government Doesn't Do Something, It Won't Happen

By Mark Finkelstein | October 04, 2011 | 08:49

A  A

Barely a week ago, we noted that the Morning Joe crew was blowing off the Solyndra scandal.  "There's no there, there," they sniffed.  But facts are pesky things.  A devastating email, which Mika Brzezinski read on the air today, has turned up, indicating that top Obama aide Valerie Jarrett was warned about Solyndra's possibly impending bankruptcy before PBO made his photo-op visit to the company.  That compelled Joe Scarborough & Co. to acknowledge that the Solyndra story has legs.

Perhaps even more significant was a clip Morning Joe played of President Obama defending his administration's decision to fund the soon-to-go-belly-up solar panel maker.  In stating his case, Obama revealed his fundamentally socialist mind-set.  According to the prez, unless the government funds something, it's not going to happen.  Video after the jump.

Peggy Noonan: 'A Leader Leads,' Obama's 'Never Been Able To Do It'

By Noel Sheppard | October 02, 2011 | 15:37

A  A

On Sunday's "Meet the Press," Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne wheeled out the typical Democrat talking point that President Obama can't get anything accomplished because of Republican obstructionism in Congress.

Not buying this nonsense was the Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan who smartly responded, "A leader leads. Part of the president's problem is that he has never, from day one, been able to really pull in bipartisan support, either make Republicans afraid of him or want to follow him. He's never been able to do it" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Al Sharpton: 'Put Governor Christie In Jail For 90 Days' To Lose Weight

By Noel Sheppard | September 30, 2011 | 10:11

A  A

As NewsBusters has been reporting, the media's obsession with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's weight has become totally absurd.

On Friday's "Morning Joe," during a discussion about obesity prompted by a pathetic column by the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson entitled "Christie's Hefty Burden," MSNBC's Al Sharpton joked, "So what I think we should do is put Governor Christie in jail for 90 days" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

By Noel Sheppard | September 29, 2011 | 16:52

For the second day in a row, MSNBC's Martin Bashir made a statement involving New Jersey governor Chris Christie that should offend Americans on both sides of the aisle.

Discussing Republican presidential candidates with conservative author Pat Buchanan Thursday, Bashir asked, "Why do you think Mr. Christie is the great white hope?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Joe Scarborough Rips E.J. Dionne: 'He Changes Every Couple of Years Depending on Who’s in the White House'

By Noel Sheppard | September 29, 2011 | 10:46

A  A

For the second time this month, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough has taken on the extreme liberal bias of Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne.

On Thursday's "Morning Joe," after Mika Brzezinski read part of Dionne's pathetic "Why Conservatives Hate Warren Buffett," her co-host replied, "I like E.J., but he changes every couple of years depending on who’s in the White House" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Ken Burns Uses 'Prohibition' To Bash Conservatives, Ignores Mika the Modern-Day Version

By Mark Finkelstein | September 29, 2011 | 10:02

A  A

If Ken Burns ever decides to stop making documentaries, he could always go into comedy . . .On today's Morning Joe, Burns claimed he was non-political, despite repeatedly attempting to draw parallels between Prohibition, the subject of his current film, and themes in current conservatism, particularly immigration. At the same time, Burns ignored the modern-day prohibitionist sitting right across the table from him--Mika Brzezinski--the neo-Carrie Nation who would ban everything from cigarettes to soft drinks, transfats to fast food. MSNBC's Bashir Attacks NJ Governor: 'Go Home, Mr. Christie. Your State Needs You Much More Than America Does'

By Noel Sheppard | September 28, 2011 | 18:09

There are times when I am truly sickened by what I see from the current breed of television anchors and hosts. Today is one of them.

Scarborough: People Shocked By Fox’s Political Agenda Ignore Democrats Used Media This Way for 30 Years

By Noel Sheppard | September 27, 2011 | 19:09

A  A

As NewsBusters reported Monday, Newsweek featured an in-depth look at Fox News and chairman Roger Ailes in its most recent installment.

When this subject came up on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Tuesday, after the guests predictably carped and whined about FNC's conservative leanings, host Joe Scarborough observed, "People are shocked and stunned at the blurred lines when Roger Ailes and Fox does it, not so shocked and stunned when Democratic establishment figures have been doing it over the past three decades" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Liberal Newsweek Editor Admits: Obama 'Wasn't Ready' to Be President

By Scott Whitlock | September 27, 2011 | 16:18

A  A

During an appearance on Morning Joe, Tuesday, Newsweek editor Tina Brown made an off-hand remark about Barack Obama, conceding that the politician "wasn't ready" to be President. Brown has previously attacked Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives for daring to oppose the Obama administration.

While discussing whether New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will change his mind and run for President, the former New Yorker editor blurted, "Actually, I just hope he doesn't, because in the end, you know, his tremendous misgivings, maybe he is right. I mean, We had this with Obama. He wasn't ready, it turns out, really."

Hypocritical MSNBC Slams 'Crazy' Conservatives

By Matt Hadro | September 27, 2011 | 13:18

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough chided the "crazy" rhetoric of Republican presidential candidates Tuesday, as he called them out by name and affirmed "crazy never wins." This aired on the same network that employs Al Sharpton and Ed Schultz.

Scarborough insisted that "crazy never wins, one of the reasons we're seeing Rick Perry collapse, the same reason we're seeing Bachmann collapse, the same reason why Newt never took off, the same reason Sarah Palin never took off."

By Noel Sheppard | September 26, 2011 | 11:55

Morning Joe Sloughs Off Solyndra: 'No There, There'

By Mark Finkelstein | September 23, 2011 | 09:33

A  A

What a curiously incurious Morning Joe bunch!  Joe Scarborough says Solyndra "is just not a story I have focused on" and John Heilemann similarly admits to not having "drilled down" on the matter.  Meanwhile, Harold Ford, Jr. assures us that when it comes to any potential Solyndra scandal, "there's no there, there" and that no one "has done anything illicit here at all."

A blasé Joe Scarborough grudgingly introduced "this Solyndra thing," citing those pesky "conservatives on Twitter" who keep raising it.  The show deigned to devote under two minutes to the story, with nary a mention of the facts that the main driver behind Solyndra was a major Obama fundraiser, that the Bush admin blew off funding for Solyndra after concluding their products weren't competitive and that Solyndra execs are now taking the Fifth. Katty's Complaint: Why Doesn't USA Have 40-Year Plan Like China's?

By Mark Finkelstein | September 22, 2011 | 08:07

Move over, Tom Friedman--there's another MSMer looking longingly at Communist China.  In an infamous column, Friedman wrote of his envy of the power of the Chinese despots to impose "critically important decisions."  He's been at it again lately

Now comes Sino-Commie-phile Katty Kay.  On Morning Joe today, the BBCer criticized the USA for not having a "40-year plan for medical innovation" like the Chinese do.  Joe Scarborough was on-point with his comeback. Video after the jump.

Scarborough Scolds Brzezinski: 'She Didn't Cross-examine Ron [Suskind] When He Wrote Books About Bush'

Mika Brzezinski gave quite a cold shoulder to author Ron Suskind Tuesday whose new book "Confidence Men" paints an unflattering picture of the Obama White House.

Doing her best Clarence Darrow, Brzezinski grilled her "Morning Joe" guest leading Joe Scarborough to smartly observe, "She didn't cross-examine Ron when he wrote books about Bush like this" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Scarborough Falsely Claims 'The Average Millionaire-Billionaire Pays Eighteen Percent in Taxes'

By Noel Sheppard | September 20, 2011 | 11:36

A  A

Hours after NewsBusters debunked the myth about the rich paying less taxes as a percent of income than lower earners, and minutes before the Associated Press confirmed our figures, Joe Scarborough said Tuesday, "The average millionaire-billionaire pays eighteen percent in taxes in America."

Going completely contrary to actual Internal Revenue Service data released weeks ago, the "Morning Joe" host added, "If we can get the millionaires and billionaires to even pay 25 percent, there’d be a massive, that would be a massive influx of money" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Scarborough Accuses GOP Debate Audience of 'Applauding the Death of a Young Man Without Health Insurance'

By Noel Sheppard | September 16, 2011 | 14:00

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough on Friday said the people in the audience at Monday's Republican presidential debate were "applauding the death of a young man without health insurance" and therefore were like the John Birchers "that Bill Buckley kicked out of the conservative movement in the mid-1960s."

Unfortunately, the host of "Morning Joe" has, like so many others in the media, badly misinterpreted what occurred when Texas Congressman Ron Paul was asked what should happen to a voluntarily uninsured man who falls into a coma (video follows with transcript and commentary):

By Mark Finkelstein | September 13, 2011 | 10:03

Joe Scarborough and Mike Bloomberg for president and veep? Yeah, that's the ticket—according to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who floated the idea during his Morning Joe appearance today.

Friedman foresaw Scarborough-Bloomberg running on a platform of Simpson-Bowles on the economy, an "investment agenda" [infrastructure spending], and getting out of Afghanistan ASAP.  "I would bet any amount of money," forecast Friedman, that such a ticket would immediately have a "significant, significant" position.  Video after the jump.

Morning Joe Skirmish As PBS Host Smiley Recycles 'Bush Lied'

By Mark Finkelstein | September 12, 2011 | 08:31

A  A

A skirmish broke out on Morning Joe today as PBS host Tavis Smiley claimed President George W. Bush "lied" the USA into the war in Iraq. Joe Scarborough and--surprisingly--Jon Meacham forcefully refuted Smiley's slur.

Scarborough unwittingly provoked the incident when, commenting on yesterday's 9-11 observances, he called for a Kumbaya moment in which Americans would put aside politics and thank presidents Bush and Obama for keeping the country safe.  That set Smiley off: "the reality is that one of those guys lied to the American people"--and the fight was on. Morning Joe Hosts Scoff at Perry's Chances: Romney Has Nomination 'in the Bag'
