Since I am a man and cannot determine this myself - what would you say is worse - waterboarding - or giving birth to a baby...?
And if having a baby is worse...then does it also qualify as torture? And if so does that mean hospitals around the world are involved in torture every day as a matter of policy - and have been for DECADES?!
And what about abortion - does this qualify as torturing a baby before it's sucked to death? Does that mean that abortion mills around the world not only promote torture - but profit handsomely as a result?!!
It's so great to begin clearing up these torture questions - thanks for any insights you can provide...

TM: I've never been
May 7, 2009 - 12:54 ET by QueenMumTM: I've never been waterboarded, so I can't speak from experience per se on that. I have however been in labor. If a labor lasts just a few minutes, then waterboarding is likely worse. Otherwise, labor is likley worse. Fortunately, today most women have safe anesthetic measures available to them to alleviate the pain of labor.
Of course, the answer regarding abortion being akin to torture is self-evident to anyone who's willing to consider that a fetus is a living human being. And a tiny, helpless one at that.
Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of the tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men. - Ayn Rand

Sorry for the confusion BT.

Sounds like you are comaparing having a baby with waterboarding.
I'll go out on a limb and say waterboarding is worse than child birth.
Stupid comparison.

that is my comparison yes -

You'd be wrong. Water
June 9, 2009 - 10:05 ET by amberYou'd be wrong. Water boarding is about panic and fear, labor is pain. Some women have no pain and just pop those babies out, but I thought I was going to die and blood was about to come out of my eyes because of the pain. I got pregnant again a few months later and was scared to go through the pain again. That last child was my last.
My first labor went on for over 36 hours because the doctor on call was in a neighboring state and had been drinking. Finally the hospital got a doctor who was working in the hospital at that time. The other doctor is no longer employed.
My second lasted about 5 hours and was so painful I shudder to think of it now.
I had a painkiller right for my last child.
After all children my adrenaline was so high I could not stop shaking. I threw up repedtedly with my second and after all of my labors. Sorry, childbirth wins. The only thing that is different is the baby in the end.

June 9, 2009 - 11:36 ET by Georgia GirlAmen, sister. ^_^ I did the throwing up and shakes as well. It is not a pretty process. Thank goodness we get our beautiful babies in the end, because what else on earth would be worth the agony and misery of childbirth?
Yes, I do love the kids,
June 9, 2009 - 15:47 ET by amberYes, I do love the kids, they are worth the pain but most of us mothers are self-sacrificing when it comes to our children. I wish Obama felt the same way about our country.

June 9, 2009 - 18:02 ET by Georgia GirlI hear ya! That is the bottom line on what my problem is with him. It's his whole "take the easy road" attitude that permeates everything he touches. When you don't do the truly right thing, it's just not gonna turn out right. It really does break my heart, especially when it so worries me for our kids & what Obama's choices are laying the groundwork for in their lives...it's just really worrisome and overwhelming. I was scared &worried when he was elected. I am currently worried and horrified! I keep looking over my shoulder like, "What next?" *_*
On a brighter note, I read some things today that really helped encourage me that there can be a real surprise with 2010 seats that can help even things out and that Americans are really starting to get it -- and that Obama is not as popular as the press would like us to believe right now. We have to keep in the fight and stay strong for our kids and do what we can -- 2012 has got to be a turnaround. No more of this junk!
There are enough people who can make a difference to not let this happen again -- I really do believe that. But I do think this is a fight for the very heart and soul of this country. It is no less than that to me.

May 7, 2009 - 13:06 ET by bigtimerHey, howdy TM...
I've had two children, they had no time to give me any spinal, but I know one thing, I'm pretty darned well sure I would rather be water-boarded, and as far as abortion goes...I could not agree more.
I am sick of the sissified, so-called PC nation we have become against the very people that murdered thousands here and over-seas, let alone the be-headings, that were not done quickly, let alone the other tortures they inflict...
But with the leftists, we are supposed to coddle the enemies, hand them a lollipop after we feed them a Happy Meal and such and say pretty please can you hand over some information on who, where you plan on killing next before we give you a coke to go with your Happy Meal.
I could say more, but you get my point.

May 12, 2009 - 16:00 ET by Georgia GirlI've had one child. My water broke -- and 20 minutes later I had our dear son. The physician later told me: "You had the fast, wicked labor. You earned your son the really hard way -- and for those who think that was a cake walk, it was every bit as much as someone who had days of labor." ^_^
I am a petite, girlie-girl, but I am also very strong-minded. I will say that 20 minutes of that end-stage labor (no pain killers or epidural) was the most unbelievable pain I could have made up in my mind. It's indescribable, and I'm no wimp to pain. Even though I could not get an epidural that late in the game, I would not have been able to move to take it. I was pretty much paralyzed in the pain.
Now as for pulling this together with waterboarding...I'm a very strong swimmer. I love the water & am comfortable in all aspects of swimming -- have been a lifeguard. I've competed (swim team) and can hold my breath a loooong time and endure a lot of water-related situations without panic. I've seen a demo on waterboarding, and I get it. So that is the background I bring to the table, in answering this question.
I would rather be waterboarded for hours on end than the 20 minutes of labor I had.
thank you Georgia Girl for
May 20, 2009 - 19:17 ET by TruthMongerthank you Georgia Girl for such a detailed response!
so again imo if it's not worse pain and trauma then child-birth - then waterboarding is no where near torture
and it's also safe to say now that the left cares more about terrorists and death-row inmates than innocent unborn children

May 20, 2009 - 21:08 ET by Georgia GirlDetailed for sure, huh? LOL.
You know, I just realized something. If some poor woman has never given birth and wants to, they will be horrified by my story. I am seriously going back to put an edit on it -- there needs to be a warning label! ^_^
Shoot. It's too late. I can't edit it. So okay...here it is:
WARNING TO ANYBODY READING THIS PAGE WHO HAS NEVER HAD A CHILD AND WANTS TO SOMEDAY: DON'T READ GEORGIA GIRL'S POST! [Consider it similar to the disclaimer that weight loss companies give when a celebrity has lost 50 pounds on their program: "Results are not typical." ^_^]
