I want to see what people feel about three things here.  I will give a real quick answer from my point of view following each question.  Now play nice.

1. Is there such a thing as right and wrong?  I am not asking what defines right and wrong, or even what is right and what is wrong. Only is there such a thing as right and wrong?  Are there absolutes?

I believe there are.

2.  Are all cultures equal?

My personal opinion is no.  Obviously different cultures will have different strengths and weaknesses. So how can they be equal?

For example: Is a culture that protects children more advanced than one that treats children as sex objects ?  Yes, at least in that area.

Is a culture that has computers and cars more advanced than one that is still in the stone age? Yes, at least in that area.

 3. What is a bigot?

The old joke was "someone winning an argument with a liberal."  Increasingly, it seems to be that disagreeing with someone's religion or "sexual oreintation" is being a bigot.  I see more and more people on the right using it this way.  Seems to me the left has once again defined terms and the right is buying it. (This is not originally my observation, but was pointed out to me, and the more I think about it, the more I realize how true it is. "Dr Sanity" may have been where I first saw this in general terms.)

"Bigot" seems to be increasingly the way people try to shut up those they disagree with. A magic trump word that means "You are not allowed to discuss this any further.  Only my view point is allowed to be expressed.  Yours is verboten." I believe "bigot" is more specifically being used to try to suppress any public discussion of religion or morals. Your point of view on these things must be "private" unless it is PC.

I will debate people I disagree with.  Sometimes I will ignore them if I do not agree with them. But I believe they should be allowed to share their view, even if I do not agree with it.  And I should be allowed to share mine, even if they do not agree with me. That is free speech. (I also realize operators of private sites like NB have the right to ban certain things-a person can go elsewhere to talk.)

On other sites like ABC I have sometimes wanted to report someone for something they said to me.  Then I realize it may be more powerfull to leave it up for all to see and respond to it -even quoting their words to shame them. That is my personal belief in how to handle things.

I believe strongly we are headed down a dangerous path when certain code words like "bigot" are being adapted by even the "right" as a means of trying to silence others view points.
