Real easy. Post a link to your favorite (at the moment) YouTube video.

It would be good if you said something about it.

This is mine right now. I really like this video of Coldplay. They were just in my city , and they put on a fantastic concert. They gave everyone a free CD on the way out! They also walked up into the seats and put on an unplugged set. How cool is that?

Anyway I love this video.

Here's another I like

I don't really like the video, but I love the song. If someone has fantastic video with this song, post it. When I first heard the song, I was doing about 100 mph through the desert on I-10 in Arizona. It was much better than the video :)

If you've "Had a Bad Day..."

This is for all my Newsbuster pals who have had a bad day .... and even for the nice liberals on here who may sometimes irk me. ;)

As for the reason I enjoy this song ... 1) It perks me up when I've had a bad day (that was simple, huh?) 2) I relate to this songwriter (Daniel Powter) for a few reasons. First, because the poor guy started out playing the violin -- but then switched to piano when he was bullied in school & someone broke his violin. He mainly plays by ear. I have honestly never been bullied in my life, but my parents started me out on violin when I was five, and I play by ear. & 3) I find his story inspirational. He is dyslexic and has overcome a lot.

Without further ado, here is the song that perks me up on bad days, especially lately, with Obama in office! :) I was forced to pick a UTube where the lyrics are typed in and "off" as he sings -- and had to forsake the coolness of the band I enjoy seeing -- for the sake of the best quality of the song.

But, Newsbusters, please come back to play this when any of ya'll have had a bad day:

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXWRqCeS_GQ&feature=related

P.S. I'll type a followup post of the lyrics, since sometimes people can't make out all the words.

Lyrics...

You've Had a Bad Day

Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to gray
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carryin' on

You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee you go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carryin' on

Because you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

Will you need a blue sky holiday?
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carryin' on

You had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day

(Oooh.. a holiday..)

Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be, well, oh that strong
And I'm not wrong ...

(yeah...)

So where is the passion when you need it the most
Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
You've seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

I like that song also

You know whats the bad thing about hitting the charts with such a good song? How do you follow it up? But still after 3 years I enjoy hearing the song- I like the syncopated rhythm. It makes me beat on my steering wheel and play air cymbals :)

http://newsbusters.o...

For a slightly different take

When listening to music after having a bad day, I really don't want to be reminded about having a bad day.  Hence this song to me is not good at all.  It is rather irritating and annoying actually, especially considering the airplay it has gotten and the commercials it has been used for.

You want good music?  Wait until six days from today.  A great album awaits...

LOL. I get your perspective. For some odd reason, it makes me feel better. The tune peps me up and I think: "Yeah, it stunk. Such is life. Others can relate. We've all been there. Tomorrow is a new one." Wow, to get that much from the song, huh? ^_^

I'll check out your album post this next week -- in what seems you may be doing right on my birthday!

I'm thinking about getting an Ipod

I've never owned an Ipod. I see now on YouTube where you have links to Amazon to download the mp3 for a song you like. Gone are the days of paying $20 for an album where you like 1 song :) Gone are the days of Apple Jam (anyone remember that? It was a filler album side on George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" album)  and album filler.

I''m going to be shopping for an Ipod :)

This is not for the music ( though its good ) but for a question. What are those smoke trails to the left of the blast? Anybody got an de-stress tunes?

I won't even have time to check out NB posts this week, which is always my fun online stress break -- I'm just too piled up with freelance deadlines. But if any of ya'll have a favorite tune that helps calm you during stressful times and you want to share, I'd love it. I'll check back once a day to see if music really can soothe the savage beast -- and maybe I can get some perspective to not sweat the small stuff.

Thanks in advance, if anybody does post any ... my "Have a Bad Day" music won't do the trick. I'm not having bad days -- just frantic ones where I feel like I'm behind before I begin. *_*

His music is magical...I wished I had the soundtrack of the tape I had of his music, it was a reel to reel, but exquisite.

He could play anything...and did on this soundtrac, knew how to mix all, where it sounded like a symphony, yet it was actually him playing all instruments in the end.

I was a teen in the70's so I was pretty much into the head banger thing. The old time hard rock was great back then. I like all kinds of stuff, classic rock, rock, hard rock, metal, soft rock, blues, classical (strings), jazz, big band, etc. Thanks for the response.Hope you clicked on my links. Bada$$ Marine

One of the most touching videos I have ever seen on YouTube.  I posted this here years ago, and it is still my favorite video.

Hope everyone enjoys.

for those who can't catch this patriot's lyrics, here's a full reprint.

I beg your pardon, you partied with the late, great Reagan?
Republican, Independent, Christian, Catholic,
Methodist, Baptist, 7th Day Adventist, 5 Percenters,
Hindu, Sunii Muslim, Brothers and Sisters who never seen the New York city
skyline when the twin towers still existed.
But still She called.

From the bowels of Ground Zero she sent this 911 distress signal.
Because She was in desperate need of a hero,
and didn't have time to decipher what to call 'em,
so she called 'em all Her children.
The children of the stars and bars who needed to know nothing more than the fact that she called.
The fact that someone attempted to harm us
this daughter who covered us all with her loving arms.
And now these arms are sprawled across New York City streets.
A smoke filled lung, a silt covered faced,
and a solitary tear poured out of her cheek.
Her singed garments carpets Pennsylvania Avenue and the Pentagon was under her feet.
As she began to talk, she began to cough up small particles of debris
and said, "I am America, and I'm calling on the land of the free."
So they answered.

All personal differences set to the side
because right now there was no time to decide which state building the Confederate flag should fly over,
and which trimester the embryo is considered alive,
or on our monetary units, and which God we should confide.
You see, someone attempted to choke the voice
of the one who gave us the right for choice,
and now she was callin.
And somebody had to answer.
Who was going to answer?

So they did.
Stern faces and chisled chins.
Devoted women and disciplined men,
who rose from the ashes like a pheonix
and said "don't worry, we'll stand in your defense."
They tightened up their bootlaces
and said goodbye to loved ones, family and friends.
They tried to bombard them with the "hold on", "wait-a-minute's", and "what-if's".
And "Daddy, where you goin?".
And, "Mommy, why you leavin?".
And they merely kissed them on their foreheads and said "Don't worry, I have my reasons.
You see, to this country I pledged my allegience
to defend it against all enemies foreign and domestic.
So as long as I'm breathin, I'll run though hell-fire,
meet the enemy on the front lines,
look him directly in his face,
stare directly in his eyes and scream,
"I AM AMERICA! WE WILL NOT BE TERRORIZED!
WE WILL NOT BE TERRORIZED!
I REFUSE TO BE AFRAID!
I'LL FIGHT YOU ANY COUNTRY, ANY CONTINENT, ANY TERRAIN.
I'LL FIGHT TO MY LAST BREATH!"

And if by chance death is my fate,
pin my medals upon my chest,
and throw Old Glory on my grave.
But, don't y'all cry for me.
You see, my Father's prepared a place.
I'll be a part of his Holy army standing a watch at the Pearly Gates.
Because freedom was never free.
POW's, and fallen soldiers
all paid the ultimate sacrafice
along side veterans who put themselves in harms way.
Risking their lives and limbs just to hold up democracy's weight,
but still standing on them broken appendages anytime the National Anthem was played.
You see, these were the brave warriors that gave me the right
to say that I'm Black. Or white.

Or

African American or Caucasian,
I'm Asian, excuse me.

The youtube videos have a way of taking you down Memory Lane.  To wit: this video.  I saw this in my "formative" period for the first time when I was 12.  Not only did I love the song but I thought the video was way cool.  By the way, which do you like: that version, or this one?

(Of course, I note that by the time I was 17, if you presented either version to me in public, I would have broken the tape/CD in front of you and demanded you get that weak-a** garbage away from me, along with a sharp reminder that if it isn't Slayer IT SUCKS!!!)  :-)

Too funny!

This is one of my favorite Beatles songs ever

The first time I saw this video was about 35 years ago at a midnight movie - Magical Mystery Tour. We were on some brown powder we thought was THC but since THC deteriorates in about twenty minutes, I don't know what the hell it was. All I can say is the video was in 3d  and we didn't have 3d glasses:)

http://www.youtube.c...

Why not Jeb Bush?

→ nwahs

Having absolutely no idea what you may be referring to, may I ask if this brown powder made you smile a lot and could possibly have been chocolate mescaline?

Just an uneducated guess.

Hope is an excuse for doing nothing - Rush Limbaugh

It could have been drano

But I suspect it was probably PCP. It was around 1974. The thing I remember most was the audio hallucinations. The sound was beyond real.. Do you ever wonder at how lucky you were to survive childhood and young adulthood?

Why not Jeb Bush?

A little George Harrison

This first link is of George Harrison doing "In My Life" live on his 1974 Dark Horse tour. I wasn't at this concert, but I did go to the one in Baton Rouge La. I couldn't have been more than 18 or 19 at the time. I remember him doing this song during the concert and how ragged his voice was, and him substituting the line "I've loved you more" with "I've loved God more." Hell, I remember the rush.

http://www.youtube.c...

The next is a link to a live version of "Taxman" from his "Live in Japan" album 1991.  I just discovered this record existed. What is so cool is he does a lot of songs (including Dark Horse) that he did on his 1974 tour, but his voice is fine! If you're a Harrison fan, you need to get that album. It will take you back to another world. Another beautiful world.

→ Beatles connection

Here's a Paul McCartney song performed by a couple of old geezers from wayyyy back.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Talk about beautiful

Talk about beautiful harmonies. My aunt turned me on to the Everly brothers when I was very young. I think I've read somewhere they were the inspiration for the Beatles' harmony style. Just thinking back to songs like "This Boy" and "Baby's in Black" I'd guess they were.

Dream :)

I am the mob. Don't tread on me.

→ Inspiration

John and Paul made no secret of their admiration for the Everly Brothers.

My daughter and I used to sound pretty good singing "Dreams".

Her voice got too good for me, though.  I get to hear her solo every Sunday in church now.  She's got the voice.

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Oh this made my evening, if

Oh this made my evening, if I hadn't seen The Everly Brothers I would have never clicked the link....I don't know how I ever missed this song from them all these years, but you don't know how much I appreciate it, I'm going to play it again later.

So many thanks.

I also knew about John and Paul's admiration for them.

Obama's a Community Agitator, a walking, talking destroyer. ~ Rush Limbaugh

→ No-brainer BT

Anybody who doesn't love the Everly Brothers has got a hole in their soul.

And since that song was released in 1984, many who grew up understanding what the Everlys meant to music weren't aware of Nightingale..

LYDSEXICS UNTIE!

Sure glad I found it though...I really can't thank you enough.

As an aside, one of my greatest wishes in my life was to hear The Righteous Brothers Live...will never happen now.

The other one that I like that I still think is a fake is the one where the cheerleaders toss the girl up and she comes back down through a basketball hoop.

How I found it:

http://www.youtube.c...

This song was first published in 1963 when most rock n' roll songs was straight up and down - compositionally, 2 verses, chorus, 1 verse, bridge, chorus, 1 verse chorus out.

This song is linear.  It develops and embellishes. Pretty unique for Rock n'Roll at the time.

This was one of my mom's favorite songs

When I first brought the album home and played this song for my mom, she hated it. She could not get past the first line. It was sacrilegious.

It took a lot of explaining and discussing what it meant. I don't think this song is about atheism, or communism or even pacifism. I think its about,  just for a moment, try to live just for the now. With all the bad and all the distractions, expectations, failures, hopes, whatever, forget it all and just live for moment- just this once.

Now I have no idea what he meant, but this is how I reconciled the song. My mom seemed satisfied too and it wound up being one of her favorites.

Stumble onto is right!

One of the youngun's (20ish) that I work with wanted to know the name of that tune. I told him and he got on the net and came up with a bunch of live clips. I was looking for the original song when I stumbled on the Zen tune. Laughed my ass off listening to it.  : )

I love this song -- always peps me up. I'd never seen the video until now, and it's goofily funny. [And please...nobody tell me that if I've never seen this video that I've either led a very sheltered life or I must have been three when the video came out!] ^_^

I think the 80's music was fun and happy it's because Reagan was president.

The big reason the 80's music is missing from the FM stations, is that  the libs don't want reminders of how great a time it was.

Georgia I like all the rotary phones!!  We were the last to get push button (you used to have to RENT phones from the phone company and they charged like 65 cents more per month for push buttons.  Aah, the memories.

Radical1979...

You know, I think we have become so high tech that was have become incredibly boring. We've lost some of the texture in life, ya know? Rotary phones...so very cool. Every call seemed important because of that "wizzy-clipping" sound made when dialing. And phonographs (yes, I really did have one for the latter part of my childhood)...so much better than CDs, IMO. What can I say -- I'm an old-fashioned girl. ^_^

GG What about album covers?

GG What about album covers? I remember buying albums and really studying the cover and inserts while I listened to it the first time.  Now we buy our music online and don't even get the CD (who can read those little covers at my age?)

The only tech improvement is the iPod because we were at the beach last weekend and didn't have to hear the teenage music, they were all plugged in.  Although I would have enjoyed the background noise of someone listening to a ball game...

P.S. Too funny...

Okay, I've gotten some very funny PMs on my phonograph comment. Yes, you guys are right -- I meant in my early childhood years. I guess (to some) I made it sound like the phonograph was not invented yet in my "little" years...and yes -- that does not accurately reflect my age. LOL! Cracked me up.

It reminds me of a year ago when my son found out I played "records" as a girl...he said: "Really Mom? You did? But you are not old at all. How is that possible?"

Nobody talk to me. LOL.

GG, having been born during the Ford administration, I was positioned perfectly to absorb vast quantities of 80s music.  It also didn't hurt that I was the youngest of three siblings, and that my mother and two sisters were snapping up this music left and right.

Nor did it hurt that for Christmas one year my parents got me a record player (!) with a radio tuner, which I then used to check out various AM and FM radio channels.

Even amidst all of my heavy metal songs on my iPod, you can find tons of 80s music for that reason.

Teddy...

Rumor has it that you are still "taking entries" today. So...what's the plan, man? At the stroke of midnight, you are picking a name? Do tell...oh, I should pick a song here, because otherwise I'm off topic...something appropriate for the suspense...think, think, think. I will come back to edit myself with some tag-on song...

As far as I can tell, this

As far as I can tell, this forum is for favorite video, not necessarily music video.  Is that correct, nwahs?

But yes, I will take all entries until the end of the day.  Tomorrow morning I will send a very nice email to NB requesting this final name change.

"If we love our country, we should also love our countrymen." Ronald Reagan

Teddy!

Oh, shoot. I was racing around to get the right song, but you put a comment on here already -- and knocked my editing of myself out. Okay, I'll recover. :)

Forget suspense. I have two songs to go along with the theme of: NAME CHANGE.

First NAME (I happen to like this song, and yes, I know you are not a horse)...

Now...please give me just five minutes to come back to post the second song (for CHANGE), to complete this. Yes, I know...it's all very exciting. You're making fun of me, right? *_*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0KKGdb4qUY

and CHANGE:

(I hope my posting this singer doesn't offend anyway...I'm not endorsing him as a person and understand the serious nature of things, but I do like this song).

And done! I know, it was more than you hoped for...ha ha.

You did some good work here,

You did some good work here, GG.  The America link gives me a good idea for a name - America!  Yes, that's right, WITH the exclamation point.  I can be known as America!, the liberal everyone hates who goes by the name of something everyone loves.  Damn, you're good.

"If we love our country, we should also love our countrymen." Ronald Reagan

Okay, but...

Would you really do that to me? Haven't I suffered enough? ^_^ If you credit me with that, from now on when somebody tries to PM me, I will have this recording on:

This name has been disconnected. If you feel you have reached the name in error, please try again later...like after the 2012 election.

Well, it's up to you...but I should give you fair warning, if you use that one, people will change it. Trust me, they will. They will tinker with it in such a way that you may not like it. But it's a free country (at least for the time being), so do what ya gotta do, dude! And one last time...TEDDDDDDY!

Oh GG, you gave me such a

Oh GG, you gave me such a great idea and now you want to take it away from me!  So unfair.  You realize in doing that, you're also losing that bonus "freeze" power?

It's fine.  No really, it is.

It's an all time favorite of mine.  She cheated, she paid for it.  But the best part is the reaction of the duo in the studio.  Priceless.

Camera...

Huh? Did I miss something? How did I "cheat"? Waz up with that?

P.S. Oh, I see. Trying to take your name away. Naw, wouldn't think of it...CAMERA. ;) Okay, I'm done -- with the way things have gone lately, somebody is going to end up mad at me, when I'm just kiddin' around. But...I WILL call you Camera. That's the truth, so I might as well be up-front about it. ;)

No, not you.  The girl in

No, not you.  The girl in the video cheated, and then she fell on her face because of it.

It's okay. I have a new pet name all ready for him -- "Camera," and it shall be taken from the letters of America:

ICamera!

It will remind me that sometimes in our lives, we get a brief glimpse of something -- a snapshot, shall we say -- but it's the long view that matters. Kind of like Obama...here today, gone in 2012.

How can you beat a smoking skull on a stick named Henry?

I always think of this as the perfect Obama theme song.

Another obscure band

I'm really getting into this band as of late.  Here is a video of a song of theirs that I found particularly intriguing.

(Thanks to Scuba Dude, who, by introducing me to Ayreon, led me to this particular band.)

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

You are most welcome

You are most welcome Unsane.  How about a road trip where we play nothing but Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Ayreon, Joe Satriani and the various projects the members have been involved in?

On a comedic note, how about this video on dance?  Or how about this video featuring the Carlton Dance?

The Obama Administration: THE most fiscally irresponsible Administration EVER

Roadie

That sounds like one hell of a road trip to me.  You shoulda been on the road with me when I drove to Anchorage.  It was pretty much the same thing, only when I drove through Canada, I made sure that Rush was predominant!

"CONSUMED DEMOCRACY RETURNS A SOCIALIST REGIME" - Slayer, "Fictional Reality", from Divine Intervention (1994)

This man was very excited about his performance

He was obviously enjoying himself

"I swear sometimes the self-appointed moral police are as obnoxious and demanding of big government interference as "environmentalist" gun control advocates, labor unions and trial lawyers"~fitzfong

And for my softer side...poor little guy:

I resemble that remark

Been there done that - after lots of whiskey.

"What we have to do today is make a covenant to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing." -Michele Bachmann advocating  covenants and self mutilation as a response to health care reform.

Hahahahahaha...Bottoms

Hahahahahaha...Bottoms up!

XOXO - Ted

Its the damn belly

Its the damn belly thats the problem and don't I know it...

Gotta love baby videos

This video makes me laugh no matter how many times I've seen it. Pretty clever editing.

Ready-Set-Bumbo

And here's the sequel. Even better.

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out
of other people's money."

—Margaret Thatcher

Now this will take your mind off of politics

This is just a good song. If this doesn't take your mind off politics, you're dead or darn near it :) Dierks Bentley.

"It is going be a totally positive speech. If that is what it is, it is
good to have the president of the United States saying to young people
across America stay in school and do your homework. It’s good for
America.” - Newt Gingrich

Who's heard of these guys?

One of my favorite bands. 3 guys that know how to rock. One from their Impeckable album: Time To Remember.

One from Power Supply: Crime Against the World.

Make that two: Secrets In My Head.

Oh, what the hell, three! Heavy Metal Revolution just for kicks!

Budgie rocks!!

Gary

Levi Johnstoned: The One Trick Phoney!

I never heard of them

But they're pretty good. I'm going to see what else I can find on them. How did you find them?  You Welsh?

Politics is showbiz for ugly people

I've know about Budgie for many years

They are one of my favorite Brit bands. For just three guys they rock. I'm not Welsh, I'm all American! They put out their first album around '71 I believe and are actually still on tour (albeit, not with the original line-up).

JWF,

Wow, that means nwahs is growing on you! ((^_^))

HansW~

Well, that is an overstatement. But I do think that somewhere deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep, deep (to infinity and beyond -- beyond any of his conscious awareness)...JWF thinks there is something about you that is okay.

And I went out on a shaky limb there. ^_^

P.S. I really am a grammar geek. It is bothering me so much that I forgot to put the comma on 1,000. ((^_^))

Really cool video

I just saw this posted by Moe Lane over at RedState. I'm assuming the lyrics in the tunes add meaning to the artwork, but even without understanding them, it's pretty amazing. This video is about 8 1/2 minutes long but well worth.

Sand painting.

HansW~

Did you have a video of REM on here earlier today?

HansW...where are ya? ^_^ If you can tell me if you posted it on here and it was moved -- or if on another thread. Thanks!~

Not me

I haven't posted any REM, but I do like some of their stuff.

Politics is showbiz for ugly people

HansW~

Okay, thanks! I guess it never was on here~I'll look elsewhere.

That is cool

I've never seen anything like that. I thought it was going to be a stagnant (static) picture like some of the speed painting videos I've seen on YouTube. But it tells a story by constantly changing and redrawing the image. Thats unique ( to me anyway).

Politics is showbiz for ugly people

shawn

Yeah- I think that's what I found so interesting about that- the constant changing. I really think it would have been even better had I been able to follow the lyrics of the music. But the creativity, coupled with the shear talent was off the charts for me.

Excellent BK!

That was very cool! It's a keeper! Thanks!

New Conservative Anthem

Great new music video from the grassroots band "Due South" Featuring street level footage from the DC march. These guys are true Patriots and in need of our help. If this song doesn't get to the attention of Glenn Beck, Hannity, and/or Fox News soon, the Conservative songwriting factory known as "Due South" may be permanently out of business. OK, this is a goofy one

This is a video by my youngest and his friend. They recorded all the music and video and put it together themselves. It's really goofy (THAT'S MY BOY!) He's the first one in the video. He was 16 at the time. Funny as heck to me anyway! : )

This is another goofy one (much longer.) Ladder to Heaven.

I love creative kids!:)

Thanks GG

All my kids are musical. Don't know where that comes from as me and their mom are not musical at all. Go figure. All my kids read and write music. Wow! Maybe one of them will make me rich some day. LOL! I'm proud of them all, I'm blessed.  : )

The Sky in Motion

This was first posted on NewsBusters some months ago ( a year?).  I think it works so well because its a juxtaposition of a really simple melody with very complex nuances in the visual.

Whatever reason, its a beautiful video.

Caution - the melody will get stuck in your head.

The Power to Abuse

Well here's a song from a fellow NewsBuster Dan Litwin.

Dan, I listened to your trax' and I like this one the best.

I liked this one second best :

I really like this song. The arrangement is great and it is wonderfully produced.

What ever became of this Mr. Shy?

See? That's two votes "nice one!" :)

You should put a link to all your songs on here...or maybe you already have -- I need to scroll up to see.

My favorite features Dan Rather

My favorite is a news broadcast from 9/11 that proves that the agents that were assigned to blow up the George Washington Bridge were caught in the act.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CHq6JocvDM&NR=1

"We could blow up a US ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba." "We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area...and even Washington." - US Joint Chiefs of Staff, 1962

I don't know you so I will be nice.

You know what, screw that. You freakin' pond scum of a truther idiot. Screw you, anyone related to you, anyone married to you, anyone that remotely looks like you. Screw your neighbors, screw your dog and or cat or both. Screw the guy that sold you your car. Screw the guy that grew the asparagus you just finished. Screw your boss, you coworkers. Screw your classmates from the 8th grade.

You know why? For making me look up the truth. This is one of those stories that got reported in the craziness that was September 11th, 2001. There was a lot of scary stories floating around becuase it was a godawful traumatic day. And a lot of them turned out not to be true. And this one was QUICKLY found to be exaggerated.  There was some arrest of some guys in a truck. But no explosives were involved.

Dan Rather later walked back the story but never did retract his scare story.

Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting later commented on Rather's treatment of the story:

This gaffe did not prevent Rather from reporting a new "scoop" later that evening:

"Now this just in from New York City. Marcia Kramer, former newspaper woman, now working at WCBS-TV, in New York, says that sources have told her that two people have been arrested with explosives under the George Washington Bridge. The George Washington Bridge, for those of you unfamiliar with the city, connects a part of New Jersey with Manhattan. So two people arrested on the GW Bridge in a truck with explosives. As this report—now, whether it was connected with the events of the day, we do not know. But an interesting report."

Rather repeatedly reported this as well: "Now WCBS-TV news in New York is reporting two people arrested by the FBI in a truck with explosives under the George Washington Bridge.... Whether this arrest by the FBI is connected with other events in the day, one can only question."

Later, he prefaced the story with "it may not be over yet," and added that "authorities say there were enough explosives in the truck to bring down the bridge." Yet another repetition of the story stated as fact that "the FBI has two suspects in hand," and that "enough explosives were in the truck to do great damage to the George Washington Bridge."

As with the State Department car-bombing, Rather had to backtrack on this story as well: "Marcia Kramer of WCBS-TV, our CBS-owned and -operated station in New York, reported some time ago that the FBI had in custody two suspects caught with a pickup truck of explosives around the George Washington Bridge; now further checking on that story [reveals] that other law enforcement officials in New York said they knew nothing about it, and now Jim Stewart is saying that FBI headquarters in Washington knows nothing about it. We'll have to put that in a long line of things that's under the 'Well, we're skeptical now.' Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't." There is no record in the Nexis database of Rather telling his audience that it actually wasn't true.

Rather accompanied the backtracking with another self-justification: "I repeat for emphasis, we'd rather be last than be wrong, but in reporting of this kind, we're bound to make some mistakes." But is it really inevitable that anchors will pass on uncorroborated stories to the public—and portray them as fact, not rumor? For days, New Yorkers expressed surprise that the George Washington Bridge story was not true—victims of a needless panic that Dan Rather had helped to spread.

Read the truth here

Of course, if you were trying to point out the Dan Rather bias. You did a poor job. You looked like a truther and I won't apologise.

We don't appreciate it here.

Stop Frame Animation Dancing in the UK

This is a video from my local area in the north of the UK, Bolton Abbey. It is a very picturesque area, typical of the north of England.

http://www.youtube.c...

The stop frame animation is of people dancing, and is very funny. It takes about 20 seconds to really get going and builds steam as the animation plays
