The list of countries that hate us includes many that either have access to, or may soon have access to Nuclear Weapons. Fortunately, National Missle Defense has been a priority of Bush(43), and we currently have several of the key pieces operational.
LAUNCH PHASE
- Airborne LASER (ABL) [Animation] - in development
- Kinetic Energy Interceptor (KEI) - in development
MIDCOURSE
- Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) - semi-operational
- Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense - Operational
TERMINAL PHASE
- Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) - in development
- PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) - Operational
- Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) - in development
I won't be holding my breath for the MSM to report on any of these systems except when an intercept test fails.
UPDATE (Feb '08): The U.S. shot down a failing satelite. If it had failed, the MSM would be shouting NMD doesn't work, it's a waste of money, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
UPDATE (June '08): The Democratic Presidential nominee Barrack Obama wants to scrap NMD. &%$#@! idiot.

But it looks like there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary. So this is appreciated in more ways that you can imagine.
