Just want to let y'all know to keep Kevin Everett and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Everett suffered a critical injury in the Bills' season opener against Denver. He majorly damaged his spinal cord in a tackle. Full recorvery is not likely, in fact, the doctors expect him to be paralyzed.
I'm not a Bills fan, but this kind of thing makes ME cringe when I hear about it (as an avid Soccer/Football player). It's so rare, and we watch football all the time, you never really realize the dangers until someone gets it like this.

UPDATE
It appears Kevin has moved some limbs, making recovery chances brighter:

Yeah Avatar, I was watching
September 10, 2007 - 20:45 ET by Carl KolchakYeah Avatar, I was watching the game yesterday and saw the play. I hope and pray for his family as well. Both team's players seemed pretty concerned, and it was nice to see the Bill's players huddle around and say a prayer for him. Did you catch the Everson Walls and Ron Springs story? That is a very moving story.
As you mentioned, I did
September 10, 2007 - 21:00 ET by AvatarAs you mentioned, I did read up on that story. Very moving indeed.

September 10, 2007 - 21:14 ET by JerCarl...I came in during the middle of the Everson Walls/Ron Springs segment and watched the remainder. You are right...what a wonderful, inspirational story. Walls' selfless gift of life makes one realize there is still love and goodness in this world. I know the two were Dallas team mates, but was it mentioned whether or not they had been close friends?

I had caught this story
September 10, 2007 - 22:27 ET by Carl KolchakI had caught this story before I think on Superbowl Sunday when there is like many hours of coverage of football prior to the game, or sometime close to then. It is a great story and very inspirational. I think it's about time for one of the cable channels to show "Brian's Song". That was a pretty cool movie I thought.
Also watch out for the Vols on Saturday. Fulmer wins many big road games in the SEC.

Carl...it seems like Fulmer
September 11, 2007 - 01:00 ET by JerCarl...it seems like Fulmer wins more of the "big" games on the road than he does at home. Maybe he can pull off another one (and break Blonde's heart).
Later, Jer
BTW, agreed...Brian's Song was great. I could be mistaken but I think it was on one of the cable stations very recently. Missed it though...wish I had recorded it. But it probably will turn up again soon. Jer

I pray this young man recovers.

Seeing Theisman having his leg broken and bent 90 degrees 20+ years ago was enough for me.

The Theisman vid was all I ever, ever needed to see.
I still love football, though. Particularly the college (GATOR) variety.

September 10, 2007 - 21:44 ET by Blonde<edit> You may be correct, Jer....SUSPECT ALL THE WAY. <end edit>
The Gators racked up a quick 49 points in the first half against Troy.
Troy racked up 24 points in the second half. Granted, a pitiful defense on our part.
And no....it was a very, very bad decision not to put in the 2nd & 3rd stringers....we lost a starter (MCL) to this foolishness.

I'll take the Vols as an equivalent to Dennis the Menace. Funny. Hope you are correct.

September 10, 2007 - 21:22 ET by AvatarI didn't see the actual game, as I don't have a TV, but i did catch a video stream of it. I felt it in my back when he hit. This actually reminds me of the Mersereau/Byrd collision in 1992, from which Byrd recovered. I certainly hope this young man recovers as well.

Avatar, do you have a link or something about Dennis Byrd? I hadn't heard anything about his story in years and did not realize that he had been successful in his recovery.
I found the info about him
September 11, 2007 - 15:46 ET by AvatarWW, I found the info about him on Wikipedia. He recovered but never played again. He lives out as a D-line coach in Tulsa.
