Governor Sarah Palin, a Tax Cheat ?

Among the many distortions of Governor Sarah Palin's record, we have a new twist.  The implication that she somehow a tax cheat, because she "owes thousands in Back Taxes".  Yet again, that quote sounds just awful.  Do the facts of the matter say otherwise?  Let's take a look.

The very story used as a source for Governor Sarah Palin owing back taxes begins with this very quote.  And it is an instructive quote.

"Gov. Sarah Palin must pay income taxes on thousands of dollars in expense money she received while living at her Wasilla home, under a new determination by state officials.”  (emphasis mine)

Did you notice that too?  "under a new determination".  This isn't some case of her failing to pay her taxes, or even being late or behind on payments.  She has been governor for 2 years now, and apparently the state has just decided (Feb 2009) that she should pay taxes on her expense money.  Read the article.  Look at the date.

Is this stuff the best her critics have?
