America's poor are its most generous givers

Here is an interesting article: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/economy/story/68456.html It's called: "America's poor are its most generous givers".
Although there is some truth to this article, I think that this article is biased to make unsuccessful people look virtuous by virtue of their failure. Today's liberals like to blame other people for the failure of individuals.
I thought that the first paragraph was disingenuous:
"When Jody Richards saw a homeless man begging outside a downtown McDonald's recently, he bought the man a cheeseburger. There's nothing unusual about that, except that Richards is homeless, too, and the 99-cent cheeseburger was an outsized chunk of the $9.50 he'd earned that day from panhandling."
Although many homeless people do panhandle, the successful panhandlers brag that they can collect $100-$300 in a day. Of course not all panhandlers are capable of this. First they must know where to go and what time to go there. They must arrange transportation somehow, because the good spots are not near skid row. They must know how to dress. What kind of a sign or prop to display, and how to cleverly and sympathetically make their pitch.
In other-words, not all panhandlers are equal. Some are successful and some are failures. Most homeless people lack ambition and discipline, so even if they are successful panhandlers, they will squander the money and not go back for more until they are desperate.
Also the article uses the word "earn" when it should use the word "beg" to describe how the panhandlers collect their income.
Also, My article entitled "Is Charitable Giving On The Rise? " http://garyganu.blogspot.com/2008/11/is-charitable-giving-on-rise.html , illustrates that much charitable giving is not recorded in statistical analysis. As the article also pointed out, much of it is within families and is also in the form of bartering goods, services and accommodations.
Anyhow. I think that you will find this article interesting. Click on the link on top to read the whole thing.
