So, I am reading this article in my local paper's online edition yesterday and I noticed a pretty nasty little "mistake". The story was about an appearence made in Springfield by Mayor Nagan concerning disaster preparedness. Here is a snipit from the article (http://www.sj-r.com/homepage/x124599841/Always-plan-for-the-worst-is-adv...)

Snip

"Nagin said he advocated for an immediate mobilization of federal troops to assist stranded and suffering citizens. But Blanco, after meeting with Bush on Air Force One a few days after the storm hit, delayed giving the necessary approval for 24 hours.

The Republican governor’s hesitation delayed the federal response by several days, Nagin said.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported that Nagin told an interview at the time: “It would have been great if we could have left Air Force One, walked outside, and told the world that we had this all worked out. It didn’t happen, and more people died.”

Snip

One small problem, Blanco is a Democrat, not a Republican. I mailed the author of the article about the error asking if Nagan actually said such a thing. The online edition was corrected post haste, I was told that Nagan didn't say such a thing and that it was his (the author's) own mistake. In that event, I had said a correction and apology was due readers and Nagan. I waited until today's paper came out to see what it would look like.  Here is the text of their "fix".

"Former Louisiana Gov.Kathleen Blanco is a Democrat. A story in the Wednesday's State Journal-Register incorrectly listed her as a Republican."

First, there is nothing even resembling an apology but moreover they didn't even really correct the record. They didn't list her as a Republican, they printed that Nagan had done so. No mention of that whatsoever.  Now, maybe I am just being nit picky here but this paper plays the "Party identification" game quite frequently. How can this "mistake" make it past the author and the Editors - all the way to print and be this way online for nine hours until little old me ships off an email about it?

I had a feeling, which is now a belief after pondering the "correction" and a handful of years calling them out on the party ID games they play time and time again, that this was intentional. How can I believe otherwise?

Sorry if I put this in the wrong place, as this is my first post.  Should this "correction" suffice or am I on track in thinking it is as bogus as the day is long?

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.
