Irish reject the Eurocrats Lisbon Treaty.

Go Ireland!.  Of course, the Eurocrats in Brussels will be back again for another round of power grabbing from the peasants.

I loved the Irish guy who explained his NO vote on BBC.com:

I voted No because I believe Ireland's sovereignty and neutrality are extremely important. The whole European Union regime is getting ridiculous and is too underhand to even follow. Ireland was oppressed for 800 years and we've only been free for 80 years. To hand it over to Europe now would be ridiculous.

Damn, I'm proud of my kin.

Oh ye of little faith

Oh ye of little faith...

According to your shrieking posts of the past, the INSTANT any treaty was promulgated by the EU, it was JUST GOING TO PASS.  As I have pointed out...not so.

As such things have to go through TWENTY-SEVEN countries and TWENTY-SEVEN electorates for approval, the odds of success are quite small.  It might have worked 25 years ago.  Not now.

But who cares about Europe?  They are Going Absolutely Nowhere now.

unsane .. while I agree

unsane .. while I agree with your basic contempt for the Eurabia, you are, unfortunately incorrect when you state..

In fact, the Rep of Ireland is the ONLY state to have put this to a vote of its people.

All the others, including the UK (and despite the ruling Labor Party having promised it at the last election) have REFUSED to put it to a vote of the people.

It's a Stalinist usurption of freedom by quasi-totalitarians masking themselves as "democrats."

A frightening vision of what the American people may let themselves be suckered into if they allow and enable "foreign" law to direct them.

Vote 4 change. Vote 4 anything. See Jack & Mr Shy's first campaign ad for the ONLY viable 3rd party candidate.

Clarification

Jack, while I admire your concern over the elitists that populate European governments, you are forgetting one small tiny little detail which I also pointed out to NB's shrieking populist back when he first began shrieking about this item.

Sure, those governments COULD ratify this turkey themselves, and they COULD bypass a direct referendum.  BUT, all those governments have to face the voters at different times, thanks to the parliamentary systems that hold sway in Europe.

So, some governments can comfortably ratify the thing because they have 3-4 years until they have to call an election.  But some governments could have a very tenuous grip on power due to the size of their majority (or even minority or coalition).  And those governments could be prone to votes of no confidence if they go ahead and ratify the treaty without the consent of voters, or they could fall for even making noise about treaty ratification.

Still others may have a very short time left in office; a year or less.

And still others could be wildly unpopular, in which case the treaty issue could have them tossed from office.

Thus the odds of all 27 governments aligning and supporting the treaty was small to begin with.  It dwindles to practically nothing when you have referenda, of course, bit nonetheless there are other avenues for voters to travel.  If the EU were considerably smaller, the treaty could be ramrodded down people's throats much more easily.  But with 27 governments out there...it becomes considerably more difficult.

Jack Bauer,

Jack Bauer, Unsane:

"unsane .. while I agree with your basic contempt for the Eurabia, you are, unfortunately incorrect when you state.. "

From previous comments by Mr. Unsane over the last few months, it is clear he does not understand the "arabia" portion of "Eurabia".  He just does not see that the mass migration of unassimilated Muslims from Africa and the Middle East is exactly what the elites are hoping to use to their advantage to overwhelm the last of the "evil " "nationalist" at the voter booth.  Can't get the population to go along with your plans? Replace them.  Second most popular boy's name for newborns in England is  "Mohammed" and he does not get it.  Just wait till Turkey gets in.  Its all over but the dhimmitude.

Unsane may not be tracking how the UN and the the elites in Europe are playing the same tune.  Making criticism of Islam a "hate crime" all the while increasingly making pro Islamic stances.

Not my fault you don't want to read

Need I spell it out for you again???

I guess.  Yes, I have been seeing the same patterns of immigration you have, and in some cases I have been seeing them up close and personal with some travels to Europe.  However, some things should be noted here.

1) Eurabia is coming much slower than you think.  The Economist and Foreign Policy among others agree on that.

2) Why is this happening?  The Nanny State.  I know you have an extreme, intense hatred of Islam and all, but in the end, it won't be Islam that takes down Europe - it WILL be the Nanny State, for the entire reason for the immigration being allowed is the simple fact that the Nanny States need more people from whom to steal - and the Europeans could care less who they steal from, so long as no one rains on their good time.  (Not that silly conspiracy theory you spin.) All of this culd be avoided with free-market reforms and liberations, but they don't want to do that, as this involves WORK.  (The French aren't willing to defend their country these days, but just try taking their cherished 35 hour work week from them!)

3)  Looks to me you think Turkey joining the EU is a done deal.  Not with Nicholas Sarkozy as President of France, who has stated he will never permit this.  And there is less enthusiasm than you think for joining the EU in Turkey. (Looks like you need to stay away from the G2 shops, not I.)

Unsane may not be tracking how the UN and the the elites in Europe are playing the same tune.  Making criticism of Islam a "hate crime" all the while increasingly making pro Islamic stances.  Again, you are incorrect here.  The anti-Semitism, for starters, of the UN is LEGION.  Anti-Semitism has been a severe problem in Europe for...um, CENTURIES.  For starters.

Instead of trying to read my mind, may I suggest reading more about the subject of which you are trying to address?
