President Bush has defended Mr Gonzalez from the start, never backing down.
Almost blind sided this morning, like Mr Rove, he too steps down.
NYT;
...Mr. Bush has not yet chosen a replacement but will not leave the
position open long, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity
because the Attorney General's resignation had not yet been made public.
Mr. Bush had repeatedly stood by Mr. Gonzales, an old friend and
colleague from Texas, even as he faced increasing scrutiny for his
leadership of the Justice Department, including his role in the
dismissals of nine United States attorneys late last year and questions
about whether he testified truthfully about the National Security
Agency's surveillance programs. ...
The administration complains of dealing with biased people in control of a runaway train.
..."The unfair treatment that he's been on the receiving end of has been a distraction for the department," the official said. ...
The terrorists too are biased.

Gonzales resigns
August 27, 2007 - 07:58 ET by oldredneck57If President Bush wants to give the dems fits he should name Ann Coulter AG.

wouldn't surprise me if Reno were AG again!!
August 27, 2007 - 16:25 ET by j17ghsC'mon guys, the Dems destroyed a decent man and a SCOTUS candidate and now control the next AG nomination.
It's more likely to be Janet Reno than Ann Coulter. Republicans will cave in to Democrats, and Bush is such a mommy's boy he'll probably nominate Reno to please the nanny-state party.
They who laugh last, laugh the loudest -- and you guys are chuckling way too soon!
Nominations
August 28, 2007 - 08:56 ET by JDWHow many of Clinton's nominations, regardless of their actions, remained in office?
The Bush side nominees walk through a revolving door, mostly because they are not qualified. In the case of Gonzales, intellectually he could run circles around the lib pinheads, he simply was unable to control them. Their goal was to put a stranglehold on the office and shut it down as effectively as possible. Eventually the focus became so overwhelming all else was ignored. And Gonzales stepped down.
Bush in all likelihood realizes he requires the aggression which will redefine authority and in turn permit him to focus on serious issues. This chase should have been halted from the start.

Gonzales a victim of Bush's wimpiness
August 27, 2007 - 16:38 ET by j17ghsListening to the wimp-in-chief today whining about how Gonzales got the political shaft was just about the last straw for me. I can't even properly word my disgust with Bush et al, the RNC pussies and the dolts like most of the GOP senators. There's so few people in Washington who speak for the average, hard-working American.
I think I'm finished with supporting this so-called Republican as president and the whole party. They are nothing but major losers, complete sycophants and inept at political battle. I can't stand them anymore. BTW, this site seems rather bare lately, too.
Call me when we storm the DNC palace that Democrats use for their HQ. That should've been next after Saddam's palaces.
