The Pakistan People’s Party, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, used a news release yesterday to announce it had turned to the Internet to raise funds for the party’s efforts to win parliamentary elections in January 2008. In a message to supporters who visit the PPP web site, Mrs. Bhutto said:
“Pakistan is at a crossroads. We citizens are faced with a decisive choice this January 8th, election day. We can turn our backs on the years of dictatorship, fundamentalism, and economic decline. The Pakistan People’s Party is ready to lead our beloved country into a brighter future of prosperity, peace, and security. For you and for our country’s future, I am ready to lead.
“To take up this historic challenge, I need your support. I know that no matter where you are in the world, you care deeply about Pakistan. This website makes it possible for friends of Pakistan to participate in the democratic process, even from a distance. For the good of our country, please consider making a donation today to support our party and its mission.
“You can make change happen. You can restore democracy to Pakistan. You can do your part by sending a contribution now for use in our campaign to win back the reins of government for the people.
“There is no place left for the Q League. God willing, the sun of the power of the people will rise on January 8th.”
It will be interesting during the days ahead to see whether or not the PPP remains intact.
