"Active forum topics" disappeared from the right margin of the page. (I suspect the masthead was gettin' jealous, in at least some cases like the Hannity & Colmes text-phone-poll biased-lie/incompetence bust!!) Or maybe didn't want to discuss finances now that -- despite massive media bias & endless whining about him -- Ron Paul has done-well.
Or maybe there's another explanation for the mysterious disappearance, but I sure found it more-useful than some of the other sections, which remain despite being boring where "Active Forum Topics" was interesting.

Hey Sarc, I didn't
October 7, 2007 - 08:56 ET by BlondeHey Sarc,
I didn't notice...but now that you mention it.
I did like having the active forums listed down the right...but it's really no bother to just go review the forums.
Maybe it had something to do with Leon's silly fat rant the other day?
David Gregory, do you know which damn network you lie for? ~ Uncle Jimbo, @Blackfive
I don't know, Blonde
October 7, 2007 - 09:04 ET by sarcasmoIt might (conceivably) be a technical issue, too, but I haven't noticed any of the old NB site-issues of late.
In his fat-rant, I may have gotten Leon/hater to claim that he votes for less government (we'll see, it took message after message to pin him down).
I'd rather see "active forum topics" than "who's online," but that's probably another sarcasmo minority-viewpoint. I have a feeling that this change has reduced forum-activity, but it's only a feeling. Hopefully experienced users like you and comments themselves will still draw attention to user generated topics, because as y'all know I don't think the NB masthead -- great as they sometimes-are -- is the end-all and be-all of political commentary on media bias.

Sarcaso - something to make your day
October 7, 2007 - 09:10 ET by Dee BunkI was at a Second City show last night and after the show "Google Ron Paul" was written real big on the sidewalk where you walk out.
:) Only if you say...
October 7, 2007 - 09:26 ET by sarcasmoThey did it in chalk! :)
Seriously, I'm sure ALL the Presidential campaigns have trouble keeping supporters on the same page, but I'm not sure ANY of 'em is as challenged as this one, due to what might be unprecedented diversity of supporters.
Happily, yesterday some Florida property owners along Hwy. 60 gave me permission to post one of our huge Tyvek banners.
I suppose I should share the "secret" at this point, since Republicans in general are doing so-miserably compared to Hillary. Tyvek is very tough and cheap to buy at Home Depot, etc. When combined with stencils, grommets, and spray paint, volunteers can produce single-sided Tyvek signs at a fraction of what wealthy RINO campaigns are willing to pay...(Double-sides require either doubling the Tyvek over or lots of white paint to cover the Tyvek-ads.) Steal this idea, try it!

Sarc - he's better than most of his supporters
October 7, 2007 - 09:56 ET by Dee BunkHis biggest problem is his support from the 9/11 conspiracy group. Other than his stance on Iraq (which I think is principled unlike most of the dem candidates) I think he has got good things to say.
I'd much rather have him then any of the Dems running. Unfortunately, I think he's going to be the conservatives Ralph Nater. I don't have a lot of hope for this election. It's looking like Hillary or Obama will be the next president.
I admire your enthusiasm and I wish I had it.
He may be a lot of things...
October 7, 2007 - 10:14 ET by sarcasmoBut Ron Paul is no Ralph Nader. If (and I stressed the word "if" because some here have decided it's a "when" without the benefit of an actual primary vote, and I think that's monumentally-stupid, to be brutally-frank) he loses the Republican nomination, Dr. Paul won't run for anything.
We've been long-accused of allegedly-wanting to try this tactic if we fail, but it's not the libertarian faction of Republicans discussing this, it's the evangelical Christian faction, and everyone here has seen that over the past week. All I can say after 1988 is "Been there, done that." Unfair ballot access laws doom all third party hopes, and that's as true when I say it today as Republican as it was when I said it before as a partisan large-L Libertarian -- facts don't change for the convenience of party registration with people like me.
If Dr. Paul's not on the Republican ticket somewhere, Hillary will win IMO. I sincerely believe he's the only Republican candidate that can beat her, and he's Hillary's worst nightmare to run-against for that reason (not just because of the Iraq-war, either). And if Rudy's my "choice" I'm voting against both him and Hillary because there's no difference between the 2 for me.

Sarc - Hillary vs Guliani
October 7, 2007 - 12:05 ET by Dee BunkI sure hope Guliani doesn't win the nomination. I like him as a person but he's really a Democrat. The kind of Democrat that is hard to find anymore that doesn't hate America and think everything is our fault. He's way to liberal though and would appoint liberal judges who make their own laws irrespective of the constitution. He'd also be a pretty big spender.
His healthcare ideas, his Iraq position and his integrity are all much better than Hillary's though. I actually think he has the best ideas of anyone yet on healthcare. It would be better to force more competition and put the competitive power in the hands of the consumer rather than large corporations. More direct competition would lower costs unlike Government controlled and/or administrated that would be guaranteed to raise costs.

October 8, 2007 - 02:10 ET by sarcasmoSections NB kept, like "most popular all time," which continually chronicles the fact that there was a massive, boring flamewar on the day the CNN accidentally-aired anchors' girl-talk, I think the "active forum topics" thing was interesting and useful.
And like I've already said above, I think the old way made the site's bias-busting less masthead-driven & more reader-driven, which (in my book) is a good thing for keeping both them & the news media in check.

October 11, 2007 - 01:43 ET by Cool ArrowI'm just wondering.
Dose NB endorse TruthMonger's claim he is The NB Respect Police?
Was he appointed? In claiming NB as part of his title, can I assume he wields imputed authority?

October 11, 2007 - 16:54 ET by TruthMonger...its a just forum topic, bro (hint: it's in the forum section - coincidence?) - otherwise an official designation as a respect officer would have been formally announced by the mastheads - with a ticker tape parade I would hope
...our group is kind of like the self-appointed religion police around here - who always tell me to shut up about my faith on the main blogs - because Christians are not welcome in the American public square these days - it's kind of annoying to deal with, I know
...so maybe you can think of us like the minutemen - protecting our NB borders from the incivility that always seems to be sneaking in - I used to smuggle quite a bit myself...

October 11, 2007 - 10:33 ET by sarcasmoBesides, when the front page of the site is trying to convince people that sugarbowls in the WaPo's female-dominated home-section are somehow media-bias-news, SOME part of the NB site has to stay relatively serious about busting more-relevant examples of political media bias. ;^)
IMO these Forums & the Open Threads have done a good job of filling that vacuum when it exists. So thanks for restoring this very-useful NB feature.

Thanks for bringing it back. I think the forums are a great addition to this site and make for some really interesting reading at times. It would be a shame if people had to go "on the hunt" for the latest postings there.
