DeLay's attorneys to try to get indictments thrown out

AUSTIN — U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay appeared in court Tuesday for the first time with his co-defendants as his legal team tried to convince a judge to drop the conspiracy charges against him without a trial.

DeLay wants the charges dismissed or resolved in his favor by January or he risks losing his House majority leader position. Under House rules, he was forced to give up his post after he was charged in September with a felony...

After being held in U.S. custody for more than three years as an enemy combatant, Jose Padilla has been indicted along with four others for conspiracy to murder, kidnap and maim persons in a foreign country. Padilla previously was accused of -- but has not been charged with -- plotting to detonate a radioactive "dirty bomb" in the United States...
