Burma

I'd like to just note that someone like me can come on here; a site like NewsBusters; and say what I like, because we are allowed freedom of speech. I can be unpopular, and argue online with other unpopular people, and then we can safely go to our beds without being killed. (admittedly, I may cop a bullet from Jack Baur or Blonde one day!)

I disagree with George W Bush a lot of the time, but I believe in giving credit where it is due. He was quick to lash out at Burma's Military junta, last week, before things got really uncomfortable for the protesters. Today, the military fired upon peaceful protesters. Buddhist monks and peaceful citizens; not terrorists, not Islamists; not even Muslims; just people who want Aung San Suu Kyii to be in power; the one they legally voted into power 19 years ago.

It means a lot that Aung San Suu Kyii is being mentioned by GW Bush. Desmond Tutu referred to her yesterday as "pretty, diminutive; the only pinup on my wall." She is one of the bravest women in the world, and a constant reminder of the freedom I have.

The Burmese Military are now beating monks in their sleep, and closing internet cafes, hoping to mask their brutality like they did in 1988. Our arguments (at least, mine) on here at NB, are small really.

That they are, eyecare, that they are. This is why it pisses me off so bad when people use terms like 'Nazi' and 'facist' and 'police state' to describe this nation or insult our president. I don't care how much you dislike him, there is no comparision anywhere else in the world to the freedoms we have, and something like this just reminds us all the more that we DO live in the greatest country on earth.

I haven't been to the US yet, and I think Australia's the greatest, free est country on earth, so for now, we'll have to take eachother's word for it.

We are both lucky we don't live in Burma.

Bless them, but Queensland doesn't represent Australia. They have the oldest population in the world; they tend to be very conservative (in fact, backward) and they are kinda like the Deep South you hear about in the US of A. They are racist, backward, and they had the only Australian Premier who ever became a dictator.

Australia laughs at Queensland, so don't worry about it. They brought Pauline Hanson into the world, Joe Bjelke Petersen, etc, and they banned Harry Potter Books.

That's Queensland!
