No room for God in the Veteran's Administration

I was told Sunday- Easter Sunday mind you and by a staff counselor- that I COULD NOT USE THE NAME OF "GOD" in the context of the 'Serenity Prayer' because AND I QUOTE VERBATIM "Not everybody believes in God". NO ONE in the class could begin with 'God' but instead we had to start with 'Grant me the serenity' and when I asked who was doing the granting I was told to 'look within yourself'. Now these 'counselors' make BIG bucks (he had told us that himself) and it seems to me or am I just being cynical that he was setting up a little job security? This seems to me to be a dangerous precedent that is being set at taxpayer's expense.
(BTW, your title is only truncated on the main forum page...it's all here ^).
I still think you should continue to do as you please....and openly confront this counselor. If he continues to stonewall you, take it up with his supervisor, head of the program, etc. This is obviously important to you, and for your recovery plan. Go for it.
To my way of thinking, this counselor, an employee of the VA and therefore the government, has intruded into the separation of church and state....by inserting his (lack of) beliefs and applying it to the patients. His refusal to even discuss your objection is an obstacle to YOUR treatment.
You have the right to your own beliefs, as well as the right to free speech to express them. (Mention a lawyer when you use that line). Good luck with this fool...and be of good cheer...we're rooting for you.
