I just don't understand why we need to do this. NewsBusters is a very unique and special site, there are no others like us. Why change that? I don't get it. We will just become another blog mixed in with all the others, not unique anymore.
This is really bumming me out. We are really a family here and this change smacks of "let's be like everyone else!" We are going to lose many good voices I fear. There will be silence where there was once reason. And it will be deafening.
I wish the admins could have discussed this with us before making such a huge decision, our voices are what make NB, without us, NB is just another blog. This is sad to say the least. But I will hold out and pray for the best. Sigh...
I never have.
Hey, I had a question for you (regarding helping Cajun) over on the latest open blog, "Open Thread: About That Gender Pay Gap."
Oh dear.
This is exactly why I engage so little on the Web.
I not only don't like the idea of this change, I actively dislike it.
I understand that for the ship to change course, it is neither required nor necessary for the captain to saunter down to the engine room and politely ask for a change in steerage procedures to enact turning to a new compass heading, and I also understand that there may be myriad reasons for the course change wherein the captain doesn't have the luxury of explaining the necessity for the change to all on board.
I understand that paying for a cruise does not give a passenger the power, or even the right, to demand answers from the captain regarding the whys and where-fores of a change of course - the captain's orders are law while the vessel is at sea..
As an NB member/poster, I didn't have to pay any money to get on board, so I am completely aware that any complaints of mine carry no weight as regards affecting even a single one of the captain's decisions, and that is as it should be.
That said, I am free to disembark at the next port of call if the ultimate destination appears to be a place I choose not to visit.
Time will tell as far as what that locale will turn out to be like.
We shall see.

I get your analogy, and although I do agree with it on one level, I think perhaps many of us feel this is a little more like being aboard the Titanic. We hope this fantastic ship doesn't go down!
And before that happens...can we make it around the perceived iceberg?
*** my example not meant in any way to make light of one of America's saddest, most tragic accidents.
...concerned about offending the descendants of victims of a catastrophe that occurred a hundred years ago.

alluding to the Titanic seems most appropriate in this instance; and I believe that the following comment by Free Stinker is more likely than not to come to pass.

I'm sure Newsbusters is going to galactically sxck after the change.
I really hope I'm wrong about this . . .
So true.
I applaud the Admins for their skills at organizing and running this site. I thank the technical people for all their grueling work. The blogs are catalysts. Newsbusters has all the great postings that inform us of the bias and unfairness, and the writers work hard to research and write these articles. But what are the purpose of these articles/blogs? To reach PEOPLE. Then those people feel motivated -- whether to write comments that inspire others out there to action -- or taking action themselves. Many of us actively get in touch with our state reps, as well as get involved politically with groups that help spread the word on what is going on in our country and how "We the People" can make a difference in taking our country back. We tell our neighbors, friends, co-workers and families. There have been many, many examples of regular and involved NB members doing meaningful and great things for the conservative cause -- for fighting against media bias that seems to still blind part of our population.
It may seem a small thing to Admins (hope not) to just let some loyal, regular NBers be forced (either by principle or techno issues) off the site...but it is often these very special and dedicated people they will lose who make a difference in fighting the good fight. It's about passion for our country and the wisdom to spot unfairness in media reporting...there are so many apathetic citizens out there, but NBers generally are just the opposite.
So...what is more important? The messengers or those who receive the message? They are intertwined, and losing long-time (even newbie) quality conservatives for what may become a "free for all" switchover may really, seriously weaken what is supposed to be NB's true, pure cause.
In history, it has often been a few special ones who made all the difference in changing the course of events for good. We can't afford to lose special ones at NB -- ones who make a difference. There are increasingly dwindling numbers of them in our society.
I'm bummed about it. I feel like NB will lose some very loyal, great members because of privacy concerns or inability to access NB through the only means we can with the new system. Already, I hear of friends having unexpected problems with Disqus.
Also -- like everyone else -- I don't know how it will really work out once implemented, in that it could be a huge, hot mess. I think NB is special, and I don't think it's worth risking what we have (this is a pretty drastic change) for what could be a very different (in a negative way), less special and overall less effective site.
If it's a money issue or something else, I wish they would have told us that sooner and we -- as an NB community who does care -- could have offered suggestions or input. Perhaps we could have contributed more or given up some things to help.
[GG slaps her forehead]
What could I have been thinking to even say that? LOL.
I love your tag, sweetie.
