MSNBC's Todd, Guthrie Urge Democrat Meek to Quit Florida Senate Race

By Mark Finkelstein | October 11, 2010 | 10:16

A  A

Well, they did stop short of presenting him with a ceremonial seppuku sword . . .

But other than that, MSNBC's Daily Rundown duo of Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie did their best to convince Florida Dem Kendreck Meek to get out of the senatorial race to give Charlie Crist a shot against Marco Rubio.

Todd tried the cold-hard-numbers route, while Guthrie made an emotional appeal, literally asking Meek if he "can live" with himself if his continued candidacy resulted in the election of Rubio.  View video here.

CHUCK TODD: The math is just daunting, Congressman between the two of you, I mean, the Republican party is united around Marco Rubio. At this point Gov. Crist is maybe getting 15% of the Republican vote.  That means Marco Rubio is getting 85%.  In a three-way race, that's a done deal. It's over. That's 42 to 45% of the overall vote in the State of Florida. So at what point do you sit there with Gov. Crist, and at some point, I mean: what is more important, sort of making a point and trying to finish second between the two of you, or is it more important to try to prevent Marco Rubio from winning?

. . .
Unknown Object
SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: If you stay in this race, and ultimately that means the vote is split on the Democratic side and Rubio wins, can you live with your role in that?

KENDRICK MEEK: [Wry laugh] That's interesting, Savannah, that you would say that.  Again, I would say that I am nominated by hundreds of thousands of voters in this state.  Charlie Crist walked down to the Supervisor of Elections office and became an independent because he wanted to get out of the kitchen with Marco Rubio.

Sorry, folks...but with Rubio

Submitted by Beukeboom on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 10:27am.

Sorry, folks...but with Rubio gaining 9 points just last week along bringing his current poll numbers to 50% it's pretty much all over. Meek and Crist have a combined total of a measly 39% with 11% undecided. Even if Meek decided to bow out (he denies he is considering it) many Meek supporters have already expressed their intense dislike of Crist and will either vote for Rubio or not vote at all in that Senate race. Crist hasn't a chance. He shot himself in the foot over and over and over again here in Florida.

Crist/Meek 2012

I will enjoy seeing Charlie Crist fade into obscurity. But, somehow I don't see him overcoming his obsession for power.

Submitted by Blonde on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 12:55pm.

...said old Charlie looks like a photo negative!

He's such a bloody hypocrite, I can't wait until he goes back to obscurity.

And of course, Todd is following the White House Talking Points when he asks Meek to drop out...Obama would love nothing more than for Crist to be in the Senate, Crist is "his boy".  Obama's little blood-sucker Rob Wexler even endorsed Crist over the (Clinton backed) Democrat Meek.

For those of you not familiar with Florida politics, Wexler was Obama's State Election Chair, Meek was an early Hillary backer....and this is a big Obama/Bill Clinton blood feud.  It surpises me not that Todd is taking O's side and taking pot shots at Meek.

Problem is, Crist needed to change parties (again!) to democrat prior to the primary.  He waited too late, and Obama (or Rahm/Axlerod) didn't want to openly defy the democrat supporters of Meek here in Florida and openly court Crist.  But it was happening behind the scenes.

I hope he fails, too.

Wow, Shameful media activism.....NBC is terrible!

Submitted by merly1 on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 10:33am.

NBC is going full bore for the Dems, like CBS.  BTW, AP is also smearing paladino in our local stories by claiming two very different quotes have the same meaning....#1-NEW YORK - Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino told Orthodox Jewish leaders on Sunday he doesn't want children "brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality" is acceptable.- (notice how the --is acceptable-- ISNT in quotes.................In the story is the apparent full quote, with VERY different meaning...... #2-.... "I don't want them to be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option," he said..................................
If this is accurate, AP is very misleading in its smear of Paladino because the health problems in  gay males are certainly huge.

 I think it IS hilarious.

It's going to be even MORE hilarious to watch them after the election.

They will immediately start talking about what the Democrats have to do to get power back (you know, like they've been doing for the Republicans all along)....

I agree, motherbelt

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 2:15pm.

The DNC and WH are pulling out all the stops, and they're looking for volunteers to make sacrifices.

Meeks is now getting the subtle shove toward the bus wheel via NBC, but you know that it's exactly what the DNC and WH want.

But the fact that the suggestion by  Todd and Guthrie is actually pretty funny.  Nevermind that Meeks is the Democratic candidate selected by the citizens of his state, and Crist is nothing more than an independent who got his name on the ballot --I it's up to Meeks to bow out.

And where are Jackson, Sharpton, and the rest of the Race Industry?  Doesn't this have blatantly racial overtones?  You can bet that if Meeks were the Republican candidate, the Race Industry would be howling this week.

The Dem tactics are getting more and more ridiculous.  The next several weeks offer to be very entertaining.

HANDS UP NB'ers

Submitted by Sgthulka on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 10:44am.

Does anyone really gives a ratsass about what Chuck Todd has to say?

I mean, is there a more irrelevant job title on the face of the planet than "Chief Political Coresspondent - MSNBC"?

Why?

Submitted by okiehawk44 on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 10:48am.

Why do homosexuals continue to trust Democrats when Democrat script writers, producers and directors use them as comedic punch lines over and over again?

Is there some form of sick pathology going on that only other sickos can relate to?

Is that why Democrats overwhelmingly run Hollywood because they are sick and their audiences are sicker?

Submitted by mnemosyne23 on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 11:06am.

So, where are the calls of racism?  Considering they were trying to get the black Democratic candidate to drop out of the race in favor of He-Of-The-Radioactive-Tan, Crist, you'd think every minority advocacy group would be up in arms.

Nothing?  Really?  Come on, MSM.  Fine, fine, I'll do it for you.

Get Crist out!

Submitted by Texndoc on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 12:09pm.

Seems to me the contest would boil down to basically a Democrat versus a Republican if Crist was out. Haven't you seen UpChuck that the invincibility of Charlie was vastly overrated? I like what I read somewhere else - Meek is getting attention and he's not going anywhere.

Submitted by Barack_must_go..... on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 12:51pm.

I find it quite amusing to watch the human foreskins of the lame street media don their knee pads with Obama's likeness , get down on their knees and  suck the chrome off Barack's bumper ( figuratively.......for now ).

These two are pretty much the most egregious offenders of the lot.

I for one will urge the new Republican majority to fully investigate the queer , I'm sure illegal relationship between the Obama administration , GE/NBC  & CEO Jeff Imelt along with the other liberal media practices.

The investigation should be titled: Barack Obama & the Lame Street Media/ Quid Pro Quo.... GONE WILD.

Can anyone say WATERGATE?

This is just further proof that Crist...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 1:02pm.

has never been a conservative. He tried to pass himself off as such before, but that was a transparent charade...Crist will be whatever and whoever he feels he needs to be for political expediency, and the fact that Todd and Guthrie are pushing Meek to drop out in order to boost Crist's chances against Rubio, just proves that Crist is no conservative, since he is considered acceptable to some of the liberals at MSNBC.

What advocacy from MessNBC. They sound like little kids begging mom to buy them the fun cereal instead of wheaties. Im a Conservative, but i'd vote for Meek before id ever vote for Crist. Ill be so happy when he isn't my governor anymore and he sure as hell won't be my senator. He can go run a tanning salon. What the hell am I saying, he'll probably be given a cabinet position in the Obama Admin. He is spineless enough.

The media is becoming more

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Mon, 10/11/2010 - 10:26pm.

The media is becoming more transparent day by day and still say they have no Democrat loyaties.  I think they are going the way of the dino and good ridance.  I guess when Todd says drop out for the good of the Democrat party, I get sick.
