Atul Gawande is a fine writer and probably a good doctor. He was a key health care advisor to the Obama administration, largely based on writing very long articles mostly for the New Yorker about the problems he sees in the current health care system.
His most notable contribution to the health care debate was a major article he wrote in June 2009, which claimed to show that physicians in McAllen Texas were systematically over treating patients to enrich themselves. This article “became required reading in the White House and Congress during the health care debate and turned McAllen into shorthand for America’s medical spending problem,” according to NPR (National Public Radio).
Gawande argued that costs in McAllen are far higher than in El Paso, a town with similar characteristics. His only explanation: for some reason physicians in McAllen are greedier than physicians elsewhere.
As it turns out, he was wrong.
This notion suited the White House reformers to a tee. Most of them figured all the problems in health care are the fault of greedy doctors and the solution is to control the docs.

Reminds me of the comment President Obama made about leg amputations costing $30,000.00 - $50,000.00. Of course, this wasn't true.
With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. http://www.genericviagra.info/
The comedian aware that Krauthammer became a paraplegic as a result of a car accident while he was attending Harvard Medical School.Thank you very much for sharing this knowledge.this graph really conveyed the part which i was looking for. http://www.genericviagra.info/
Yeah, Ninjie - I can imagine the reasons why it was a miracle driving home!!! And I like Thin Lizzy a lot - an Irish rock band with a black singer/bassist and dueling guitarists - with some pretty catchy songs. I saw a concert of theirs on VH1 Classic a while ago, and they were very good live. I think the singer died of your typical rock star reasons, but they were a good rock'n'roll band.
Ok first of all, 5,000 years ago in an oil free civilization, why on earth was there so much more free time than we have now, way back there in ox cart agrarian Sodom dazes?...
That town PACKED with Legions of angry bored militant homosexuals, door busting gangs that was way into everyone's business. How on Earth did they know that Mr. Lot, had some cute angelic male visitors, right then exactly at the time these angels showed up? What Video surveillance?..
Of course Mr. Lot knew that offering female virgins, his very own daughters would tick off the FLAMING, CIVILIAN ARMY ,of the 2 or 3 hundred that showed up to, pork whether blinded or not ..
O'bama wins a 2nd term.. then yes God Will need to Apologize.
I'll tell ya', MD - the 'uptight conservative' types rankle my okole pretty bad too, although in a different way than the whacked out loony libs, because while I may agree with a lot of their thought process' and ideas and opinions, I just can't take their narrow-minded and self-righteous viewpoint - it's not much different than being a loony lib in that regard.
My Mom always told me 'live and let live'..................just as long as somebody else's 'live' didn't have a negative impact our your own 'live' - she knew that people were different, and there isn't much we can do about it. Somehow, we've just got to take peole at face value, until proven otherwise. So I've tried to 'live' like that myself, and be responsible, dependable, reliable, productive, and try to maintain some level of respectablity. But, as you know, if and when somebody else's version of 'live' enters my 'turf' in a negative way, it's toilet-time, and I'm doin' (Obamaspeak) the flushin'!!!!
Well, I think I've laid a couple of trolls to waste, 'with a little help from my friends', and it can be interesting when it's happening, except that they usually end up in the 'when the going gets tough, the queebies get going' type of thing.....................there is always a point where they WON'T answer whatever it is that they have tried to create, and then they just disappear - either on their own voliltion, or by getting banned, or they just refuse to go any further with something that they started.
Aloha ant.............good to see you. Ahhhh, I know you were jivin' about the 'crazy' thing - it's actually a compliment.
Yeah, the Main Stream Radio basically made 'Brown Eyed Girl' unlistenable!!! You wanna ruin a good song?? Play the living sh*t out of it!!!! But, since I had bands in high school and beyond, I got turned on to Van Morrison from his days with 'Them', and I loved his approach...............and, as I said, 'Gloria' cemented his place in rock history immediatly. Them also had some other interesting stuff before Van went out on his own, and he's continued to put out a lot of good music - for a leprecaun!!!!
Oh God - when I watched this Cutter chick, I was ready to vomit!!! Ugly, snide, totally dishonest.........................ugh!!!! Where do they find these people?????
Hey - we've been having a lot of fun, as well as conversations, without doing the DisqueSucques thing...................I still look at NB every day, and read whatever interests me, as part of my agenda of 'keeping up with current events'...............and I look for my friends in the posts, but it just ain't the same as this formate was at all. Actually, the 'troll bashing' aspect has not been one of my favorite things to do - but we have had a few nimrods on here that needed to hear something different than what was going on in their drug-addled and brainwashed minds.........................I have noticed that NONE of them ever stayed here very long.
PS - Ms Caj.............................have you polished your nightstick today???
Actually, if we are going to start talking about Van the Man, we might have to hijack another thread!!! We listen to Pandora when we are working, and we just ring up whatever genre of music that we might want to hear while we're working - I let 'da boyz' play just about anything except rap. Hell, we've even had disco on a couple of times. But just a couple of weeks ago, we had some rock'n'roll on, and I heard 'TB Sheets', which was pretty interesting!!!!
And that was right when one of my employees was coming down with the flu, which ended up wiping all of us out..............so we were singing the refrain of 'TB Sheets' to him............
Van Morrison...a friend of mine, a bit of an eccentric record collector hipped me to some seldom heard Van Morrison, the radio has always been 'fixated' on Brown-eyed Girl...but there is sooooo much good stuff out there. This same friend opened my eyes (ears?) years ago to never accepting the 'one song and that's it' attitude of radio, etc. I was amazed Golden Earring actually made more songs than 'Twilight Zone' ;-)..another talented band.
I saw some 'talking points' from Cutter. Contradicted herself completely in the same interview. The Dems are nothing if not dishonest.
killa, I meant 'crazy' in a good way,...but you know that. I didn't read too far up earlier..I've just recently started posting again. How many have we lost, besides you, as a result of the Disqus format? Troll bashing won't be the same without ya. But I agree, hi-jacking some old threads will work.
Dominoe???? That was also a pretty jumpy Irish-soul type of song from the legendary Van Morrison - who, by writing and perfoming 'Gloria', secured his place in the anals of rock'n'roll history!!!!
And,on another subject, I just watched a little video clip online that featured this dimwit Obama hackperson named Stephanie Cutter. Now, I don't watch much TV, and I really don't watch any 'normal' channels, so I haven't seen any (basically) political ads - including that 'cancer' ad that has gained so much notoriety. Anyway - I saw this dumbelle trying to worm and lie her way out of any interaction between the Obama REGIME and the SuperPAC that produced the ad...................and I've gotta say that she is another 'perfect face' of the type of people who represent Boy Baraka. She is smug, arrogant, completely dishonest, snide, 'nuanced' in a way that is designed to confuse the issue..................................and, JEEZ, what a mouth!!! I could easily go gay if women like her and Dubbie Whassername-Schliltz were the only types of females around!!!!

The following article examines the selling of health care reform based on "greedy doctors".

Wish this really WAS just an experiment.
Sort of like this comment from a GOP hopeful
"First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare…If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Thanks guys for reminding me of two songs not yet on my computer, which I'll promptly download from Amazon:
Killa, when you mentioned Thin Lizzy, I immediately thought of "Jailbreak."
Ant, I love everything about Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog!"
Good to hear from you too. Feels like a re-union around here.
I had some Uriah Heap on vinyl back in the day. Weren't they discovered and produced by Roger Glover from Deep Purple? I think that's how I heard it.
Edit; my mistake, I was thinking of the band Nazareth produced by Roger Glover, not Uriah Heap.

Ant, so glad to find you again! And I will now recognize you as "dominoe4" on disqus.
I saw Golden Earring in the mid-70's somewhere on Cape Cod, Mass. It was a long drive down there from NH and it's a miracle we ever got home!
Another band from that era that doesn't get enough credit as it deserves (I think) is Uriah Heep.
there yet...Not even close...

"I just can't take their narrow-minded and self-righteous viewpoint - it's not much different than being a loony lib in that regard."
Agree - 100%.

Also, I have seen Jer around on the threads but haven't said 'hi' yet.
dominoe4 is "Way cool".
Disqus is a kick in the form of MORE wacky libs, trolls, and uptight type conservatives - that's why we need the laid back killa there with us.

The good-natured ribbing of Miss Cajun.....that's what I mean by 'crazy'. ...you're a braver man than I.;-).
I have to apologize, I kinda get some pleasure riling up trolls...maybe I'm bad.
